Mary Mackillop Primary School celebrates 25 years of 'Inspiring Hearts and Minds'

Being a Mary MacKillop School leader has given me exciting opportunities that will make my last year in school a memorable one. Together with other leaders, we are as-signed with touring families around the classrooms and other facilities the school has to offer to help them decide if they want to enrol their kids. Assisting other students in any way possible is also part of my job; I particularly have to be a role model to young-er students by wearing my uniform correctly, practising manners and decent behav-iour. Beating stage fright and shyness is so far one of the best positive effects this posi-tion has instilled in me. Speaking in front of large crowds is now an enjoyable thing to do. Overall, being a school leader has brought me out of my comfort zone and has made me a better person. Djourney – 2020 School Leader

As part of my role as School Leader at MMPS, I have done many tours to welcome children and families to our school and to welcome them into our community and to help them get a feel of our school. Mary MacKillop always stayed positive and patient and with her ways we all try to show the school values by be-ing responsible on the playground, a problem solver when a problem needs to be solved, respectful to oth-ers in every way possible, courageous when we need to stand up for others and to be compassionate towards our work to achieve the best. Holly – 2020 School Leader

Mary MacKillop was Australia's first saint. She migrated to Australia with her Scottish family in 1838. When she was 25 years old she founded many catholic schools all over Australia for children, especially the poor and homeless who could not afford school fees. In 1866 Father Tenison and Mary MacKillop founded the sisters of St Joseph who taught many children all over Australia about our Catholic religion. Keanna – 2020 Faith Leader

Mary MacKillop was an Australian nun who is known for all the good she did to help the poor. She founded a school in 1866, for all the poor children who could-n't afford to get a good education. In the beginning, Mary MacKillop had 50 chil-dren attending her school. As time went on, more women helped to teach the children and by 1871 she had 130 teachers across 40 schools teaching poor chil-dren. In 2010 she became the first saint in Australia. Brenton – 2020 Faith Leader

The LOGO’s used in the parish bulletin were designed by students, these designs were the winners of a competition which the school ran at the beginning of the year

25 years of Catholic Education at Mary Mackillop Primary School in OLHC Parish

It is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to write some words about Mary Mackillop Primary School. I first need to say that no amount of words can do justice to the ministry of education that has taken place at Mary Mackillop over 25 years. It is also impossible to single people out. The school community that we have appreciated over 25 years is the fruit of a com-munity of people who have been focused and committed to the mission entrusted to us by Jesus. The fact that Mary Mackillop celebrates 25 years and Our Lady Help of Christians Parish celebrate its 40 th anniversary is a source of deep gratitude. Jesus greatest commandment to love self, others and God has been a source of inspiration for us as we have developed and created a wonderful family – a school community whose goal is to inspire hearts and minds. Jesus when entrusted with fulfilling his father’s mission made a priority of training leaders to continue his Father’s mission. He provided his disciple with the tools to help carry out their work with courage and conviction. The Holy Spirit working in the disciples is working in us and will not let us down, in fact nothing can separate us from the love of God. As we take these days to look back over 25 years of education and service, we have much to be proud of. In the parable of the talents the master praises the servant for increasing the gifts that he had been given. Well done good and faithful serv-ant. Jesus is also saying to us well done good and faithful school community. We need to hear those words again, “well done good and faithful servants.” But like all missions our work is ongoing. We cannot rest up and say we have done enough. The road ahead is challenging and will be full of wonderful surprises. Mary Mackillop is a wonderful saint a true blue Aussie she had a mind and heart for the battler those who were facing hardship. “There where you are you will find God”, these won-derful words of Mary Mackillop are a strong reminder that Jesus will never leave us alone. Congratulations Mary Mackillop

Primary School. Together we rejoice in God’s gift to our community. Fr Brendan

2020 TRINITY FAMILIES GRANT APPLICATIONS OPEN - Charities providing services for families in the Catholic Diocese of Sale are invited to apply to Catholic charity Trinity Families for 2020 project funding. Deadline for submissions is 31st Au-gust 2020. Applications must be from registered charities with deductible gift recipient status. Trinity Families Executive Officer Ms Mary Winter said this year’s disbursement would mark a milestone in the charity’s service to families as it will take the amount distributed to more than $1.7 million. Over the past 15 years more than 80 different charities had bene-fitted from Trinity Families funding. “To be eligible to apply there are three things an applicant must be able to show. It must be a registered charity with DGR status, it must be using the funds to support families, and the project must be with-in the defined area of the municipalities of Cardinia, Casey, Baw Baw, Latrobe, Wellington, Bass Coast, South Gippsland and East Gippsland.” Recent recipients have included a service to mentor young people learning to drive, a foodbank, a charity that assists young families after the birth of a child, an ice drug rehabilitation program and a charity supporting a school breakfast program. Ms Winter said Trinity Families often supports charities which for various reasons have not been able to attract funding from other sources. When Bishop Jeremiah Coffey established the trust in 1997 as he saw ma-jor national charities raising millions of dollars in the region, at the time, but little of the money was finding its way back to fund grass roots programs here. “He saw little value in duplicating the services of other charities already doing good work here, so he decided to create a charity to support other charities working in the region. “We provide the funding so they can put more of their endeavours into providing the various needs for families, rather than fundraising.” Ms Winter said that Trinity Families was a philanthropic trust, allocating earnings from its investments each year, and while it was a Catho-lic charity, it was there to serve all charities no matter whether they had a religious affiliation or not. Charities wishing to apply for funding are encouraged to download the fillable application form on the website www.trinityfamilies.org.au/sale-diocese/application-form.html and send it back.
