Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Solemnity of the Assumption of the
Blessed Virgin Mary
Next Saturday, Au-gust 15, is the So-lemnity of the As-sumption of the Blessed Virgin
Mary. Since the feast day falls on a Sat-urday this year, it is not a holy day of obligation. Therefore, there will not be any changes to the Mass schedule for the feast day. However, please consid-er coming to the Saturday morning 7:30am Mass to celebrate the holy day. It’s a great way to remember the great events in our salvation history, and for families to teach their children about them. Going to Mass when it is not required is a sure sign of a growing faith! A prayer activity you might consider for yourself or your family in conjunc-tion with the celebration of Her As-sumption is asking our Blessed Mother to intercede for our country in praying a daily rosary. The family rosary is something that has had a great impact on many and Bishop Deshotel has made cultivating this devotion one of
his priorities. It only takes about 20 minutes and is a good way to wind down the children prior to bed time.
They learn Sacred Scripture in learning the mysteries of the rosary. Praying the rosary as a family or individually keeps us focused on Jesus through the most powerful intercession of His Mother. And of course, we endorse the old say-ing: “The family that prays together stays together.” Starting a new habit is never easy at first, but over time it be-comes more natural and can be fruitful for us. Please considering starting this new good habit.
In addition to our other Marian devo-tions, the Vatican’s website is a good resource to learn more about our Blessed Mother, Saints and other litur-gical celebrations. The Vatican website has a host of encyclicals, past liturgical celebrations, homilies and other mes-sages from Pope Francis and all of the past Supreme Pontiffs. Visit http://w2.vatican.va/content/vatican/en.html or the Vatican’s You Tube channel at https://www.vaticannews.va/en.html.
Back to School Next week, we will be welcoming our students at St. Pius Elementary School (SPES) back to school. The new school year is always a time of good spirits and excitement for the students, faculty and staff. With the guidance of our principal, Donna Lemaire, as well as the faculty, staff and parents of SPES, I am confident that our children will be well served in body and spirit in the upcoming school year, and I very much look forward to the life that the chil-dren bring to our campus. This year, of course, brings new challenges in light of the pandemic. As I’ve observed our administration navigate the difficult challenges of providing a quality edu-cation on campus, while also maintain-ing the safety of our children, I have full confidence that we will have a suc-cessful school year despite the chal-lenges posed. St. Pius Elementary simply does an outstanding job of providing our children with a quality Catholic education regardless of the challenges it faces, and I encourage eve-ry parent to consider it for the educa-tion of their children. Let us pray for a safe and fruitful school year for our students, families, faculty and staff at SPES.

Prayer to Overcome Racism Mary, friend and mother to all, through your Son, God has found a way to unite himself to every human being, called to be one people, sisters and brothers to each other.
We ask for your help in calling on your Son, seeking for-giveness for the times when we have failed to love and re-spect one another.
We ask for your help in obtaining from your Son the grace we need to overcome the evil of racism and to build a just society.
We ask for your help in following your Son, so that preju-dice and animosity will no longer infect our minds or hearts but will be replaced with a love that respects the dignity of each person.
Mother of the Church, the Spirit of your Son Jesus warms our hearts: pray for us. Amen.

Registration is Open! The St. Pius X Women’s ACTS Re-treat begins Thursday evening, Oc-tober 22, 2020 with check-in at 5:00 p.m. Retreatants will return to St. Pius X on Sunday, October 25, 2020 for a return Mass at 12:00 p.m. You may register online at https://stpiusxchurch.org/acts-womens-retreat by filling out an application. The cost will be $295.00 per person. You will be given payment instruc-tions once it is confirmed that you have been accepted for the retreat. For more information, call the Parish Office, 232-4656. ACTS is a parish-based retreat in which parishioners serve parishioners. The goals of the ACTS Retreat, an acronym for
Adoration, Community, Theology and Service, are to strengthen our faith and its application in our daily life, to renew ourselves spiritually, to build strong, lasting friendships, and to grow in our relationship with our Lord, our parish and one anoth-
er. The ACTS weekend is presented by lay Catholic women, with support provided by a Spiritual Director/companion or clergy. Parishioners who serve on ACTS retreats strive to provide the opportunity for our parish community to expe-rience, become, and share the Body of Christ. Once parish-ioners attend a St. Pius X Parish ACTS Retreat, they can help serve on the upcoming retreat. Please consider this wonder-ful gift to yourself or someone you love.

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time
How do we encounter God in the midst of the trials and storms of our lives? Our read-ings help us reflect upon God’s presence with us in difficult times. We hear of the prophet Elijah, who had just boldly demonstrated God’s power, and is now terrified as he flees for his life, desperate-ly seeking God’s presence. We hear of Peter, after briefly walking on water during the storm, sinking fast as fear overwhelms him. At times our fears, sadness, or fatigue might severely test even our strongest desires to care for others and to serve God. Per-haps these are the moments when, as we encounter our weakness, we may open our-selves more deeply to God’s strength. Often with difficulty, and perhaps over a lifetime, we can learn to depend on God, who always extends a loving hand toward us, espe-cially during the storms of our lives.
THE PRESENCE OF GOD After the miracle of Jesus walking on water, the disciples exclaimed, “Truly, you are the Son of God” (Matthew 14:33). Most Christians will probably never experience such a dramatic miracle. Like Elijah, we await the manifestation of God in other moments. Perhaps the biggest challenge for the believer is to be constantly attuned to the possible pres-ence of God in the everyday events of life. This is a stance that takes some people years to develop. Others seem to find the Lord easily in the simple things. As the week un-folds, let us look for the presence of God in the little things around us. Perhaps, like Elijah, we will be surprised at what we find. And, like the disciples, we can add our voice to the confession, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
A “LITTLE” FAITH In Matthew’s Gospel, Peter often serves as a representa-tive of Jesus’ other disciples, and of all who strive to follow Jesus. When Peter desires to imitate Jesus by walking on the water in the middle of the storm, maybe wishing to show how strong his faith is, he encounters his own limita-tions and his need to be res-cued by Jesus. Jesus then says to Peter, with tenderness as well as with challenge, “O you of little faith.” Jesus ac-cepted the fragile and limited faith of Peter and the other disciples and loved them un-conditionally.
The early church identified with Peter, as people with a “little” faith. Their faith was not fully mature, or as ex-
traordinary as others’ faith might seem to be. But they knew that their faith, however small or imperfect, was real and true. We might remember that our own “little” faith is cher-ished by God. God loves us as we are, and always seeks to form us toward a fully mature Christian life of faith.
GROUNDED IN GOD’S FAITHFULNESS Today’s passage from Saint Paul’s letter to the Roman be-gins an extended reflection, in Chapters 9–11, of Paul’s com-ing to terms with the mixed but generally negative recep-tion of his fellow Jews toward his proclamation of Christ. He was concerned for the Jewish people certainly, but also for the members of the early church, who were both Jew and Gentile. His primary concern was that their Christian faith should always be grounded in God’s faithfulness. So Paul rejected any notion that God somehow had abandoned Israel or God’s covenant with them.
As Catholic teaching confirms, especially in the Second Vat-ican Council, the Church shares with the Jewish people in the tradition of God’s faithfulness. We are to acknowledge and repent of the Church’s participation and complicity in the darkness of anti-Semitism, both in the past and today. We pray continually with and for the Jewish people as our sisters and brothers in faith.

First Prayer to Our Lady O Mary, You shine continuously on our journey as a
sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick. At the foot of the cross, You partici-
pated in Jesus’ pain with steadfast faith. You, “Salvation of the Roman people,“ know what we need. We are cer-tain that you will provide, so that as you did at Cana of
Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform our-selves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us. He who took our sufferings upon himself and bore our sorrows, to bring us through the cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen. We seek refuge under your protec-tion, O Holy Mother of God; Do not despise our pleas - we, who are put to the test -and deliver us from every
danger, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
If you’d like to continue your generosity through your offertory giving, you may do so by using your envelopes, which can be mailed or dropped off in the night Drop Box outside of our office. Or, online through our website at https://stpiusxchurch.org/online-giving.
