HISTORY OF PASTA

• Both Greeks and Romans cooked something like today 's pasta but this was baked and not boiled.

• We first learn about pasta in ancient Greece around 1000 B.C; the word laganon described a kind of dough made of water and flour that was cut into strips. In the 8th century B.C the first Greek settlers took this recipe to Italy. It was renamed laganum in Latin and it is today 's lasagne! This fact is certified by Latin writers Cicero, Horatius and Apicius who wrote the first recipe food and describes meals with laganum.

PASTA IN ANCIENT ROME

But the first evidence is found in 4th century B.C Etruscan wall paintings in the north of Rome. In these paintings we can see utensils for boiling water and mixing flour and water, rolling pins and a tool to cut pasta.
