1. This repair manual is intended for ECLIPSE Ci-S and ECLIPSE Ci-L. For items common to Ci-S and Ci-L, ”(For Ci-S/Ci-L)” is included in the title. For items specific to Ci-S or Ci-L, ”(For Ci-S)” or ”(For Ci-L)” is included in the title.

2. Take extra care to avoid injury from sharp edges or projections and electric shock by touching live components. (Unplug the power cable and wear work-gloves before starting work.)

Notes for Repair - Use an appropriate screwdriver for the screw head slot. (Especially take care of

the (+) slot head screw.) - The plastic parts must be cleaned with a neutral solvent. If an organic solvent (ether, thinner, alcohol, etc.) is used, discoloring or

deterioration of the part might occur. - When cleaning the glass parts, take care to remove dust using a blower etc.

and wipe the parts with a lens tissue moistened with alcohol or alcohol-ether mixture.

Note - Take care not to attach a flat cable upside down. - Before turning on the power, check that the motorized optional items are

properly attached. - Before removing or installing attachments, and inserting or disconnecting a

connector, be sure to turn off the microscope. Otherwise, the board would be broken, possibly resulting in the attachments not being detected.

5-2. Disassembling/Assembling Elevation Block (For Ci-S/Ci-L)

- Disassembling the elevation block is not usually necessary. - Some screws are fixed with adhesive. Apply alcohol to melt the adhesive on

these screws.

WARNING (For ECLIPSE Ci-S) - When disassembling the elevation block, remove the lamp cover from the

lamp house. The lamp and the area around it (including the lamp house) are very hot during and immediately after a period of illumination. To avoid risk of burns, do not touch the lamp or the area around it during or immediately after a period of illumination.

- To avoid risk of fire, do not place fabric, paper or highly flammable volatile materials such as gasoline, petroleum benzine, paint thinner or alcohol near the lamp house while the lamp is lit or for a period of around thirty minutes after the lamp has been turned off.

- Wait at least thirty minutes after the lamp is turned off to give it sufficient time to cool before starting disassembling.

5-2-1. Disassembling

1. Remove the radiation cover (#1019) by moving it in the direction of the arrow while pressing inward on the parts indicated in the figure. Perform the following step for Ci-L: Remove the two hexagon socket head cap bolts (#1034).

2. Remove the four hexagon socket head cap bolts (M3 x 10) (#1031) and the two special hexagon bolts (M3 x 6) (#1033), and remove the rear cover (#1006).

3. If your model is Ci-S, remove the power supply assembly. (Refer to the section 5-7.)

4. If your model is Ci-L, remove the power supply assembly. (Refer to the section 5-12.)

5. Turn the microscope upside down.

scale is parallel with the traveling direction of the X-axis of the stage.

5. Measure the amount of deviation of the

center (O’) of the scale image from the center (O) of the collimator. Check the amount of deviation meets the following specification.

Specifications: X direction: within +/-2” Y direction: within +/-2” If the specification is not met, be sure to adjust Y direction first.

[NOTE] Before performing this adjustment, the stage tilt check (Section 5-14) and condenser holder tilt check (Section 5-15) should be completed. 1. Loosen a set screw (#446) of the condenser

holder block. (The straight pin of the stopper will pop up by the force of the coil spring.)

2. Install the stage. 3. Install the condenser lens. 4. Set the specimen slide to the specimen

holder on the stage. 5. Cut a sheet of paper (approx. 0.1 mm

thick) to about the same size as the tip of the condenser lens, and place it on that tip.

6. While observing the specimen slide, turn the knob of the condenser holder upward until the paper on the condenser lens just comes in contact with the specimen slide on the stage.

7. While maintaining the position adjusted in step 6, tighten the set screw loosened in step 1.

8. Remove the specimen slide. 9. Remove the paper from the tip of the condenser lens. 10. Turn the knob of the condenser holder once to lower. 11. Turn the knob upward until it stops. 12. Place the specimen slide on the stage again, and check that the specimen

slide does not contact the tip of the condenser lens.
