Why We Chose Niki Daly

• Theme is fun and playful for children.

• Illustrations are different than average picture books.

• Wanted to learn more about him and his work.

Interesting Information• Daly first became involved in drawing by using pencil stubs

handed down from an uncle who painted watercolor pictures.• Inspired by a collection of toys arranged on the windowsill of

his London studio, Daly created his pictures• Awards– Horn Book Honor List, 1987– New York Times Ten Best Illustrated Books list, 1995– Children's Africana Book Award Honor Book for Young
