Kind Regards
Marty Isaksen
Principal
It has been a hectic year with a focus on technology. We have built two new computer labs and purchased two new laptop trolleys. We have had some major upgrades to the irrigation system the front office and the Air-conditioning. The Arts have also featured prominently, with the school choir and dance group performing at the Beat festival, we had performers at the Seabreeze Festival and experienced the wonderful year 8 and 9 productions. We have begun a new music program this year with our concert band program. Our students participated in our athletics and swimming carnivals, a range of interschool sports, as well as individual students representing the NT in sports such as cricket, squash, swimming and surf lifesaving. We had Fiesta, teams competing in the Darwin Debating Association and we had 68 students complete their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award and one her silver. I would like to acknowledge the support of our local member, Natasha Fyles who is a strong advocate for the school. I would also like to thank the school council who work tirelessly to support the school’s improvement agenda. In particular I would like to thank Angela Kelly our retiring council chairperson and Vicki Grose who has been on the school council for the last 6 years who is also retiring. We have several teachers moving on and I would particularly like to thank them for the wonderful contribution they have made to NMS. Patrick Fleming is moving back to New South Wales and Reg Rose is taking up a position at Palmerston College, We have a couple of teachers returning so we are losing the teachers who backfilled those positions. Mrs Bronywn Packwood is returning to us from Darwin High and Ms Lenny is returning from from NT School of Distance Education so we are losing Ms Megan Allford and Ms Anna Gikas. Lastly, our School Counsellor Dominique Foreman is taking 12 months leave and Miss Amanda Loos will be replacing her. Enjoy the festive season and stay safe.
