Director*Abney RobertsonAbney Robertson has been an active participant in performing arts for over five years. She has worked behind the scenes on countless shows (including 12 at Mill Creek High School), performing as a chorus member in three musicals at Mill Creek as well as performing in the role of Beth March in Little Women. She has always held an interest in all art forms from visual arts to performing arts to the written word. The Phantom of the Opera is not only the first show she has directed, but the first play she has written. She will be attending the University of Georgia next year, studying animation in hopes of continuing her passion for art and story-telling. Abney is so thankful for the opportunity to tell Gaston Leroux’s story of The Phantom of the Opera through such an impactful medium and with the help of such an amazing cast and crew in addition to the support of her friends and family.

A gunshot is heard. Which of the five characters did it and why? Was it the Goth girl? the Football star? The super-intelligent geek?

High school violence is a hot media topic, but it is too often simplistically portrayed by putting teens into tidy categories and pointing at the outsider. Power Play explores the realities and stereotypes of high school violence - not just the brutal shock of the school shooting, but also verbal harassment and bullying. Violence is about power. So is high school.

NOTE: PG 13 - This play requires the onstage appearance of a gun and contains mild profanity and mature themes. Not suitable for young children.

THEATRE ETTIQUETTE

**Savannah PeatSavannah has been in the Mill Creek Drama Department for all four years of her high school career, and is the only senior in her class to have starred in all four musicals. From starting out as a munchkin in The Wiz to ending as Carly in fellow director’s show Fourteen Lines- and teching various positions in between - each individual show has provided her with valuable lessons and personal growth through both the character played and the experience itself. By retaining lessons of strength and will from both Mrs. Scully in Tuna Fish Eulogy and Nicki in Candid, Savannah has picked a show with similar themes of endurance, and has implemented her prior experience with one act competition and Night of One Acts 2014 into her directing of Power Play. Savannah is attending the University of Georgia in the fall and will miss every unique moment that exists within the department and each show’s process. Although it was her first time directing, having an extremely devoted cast along with a diligent stage manager, Alexis Pop, Power Play was the perfect conclusion to her high school theatre career- making it really go out with a bang.

This challenging acting piece-praised in competition for ‘treating student characters with respect and affection and lack of stereotyp-ing”-features the character of Carly, a teen-aged girl whose desire to achieve goals for herself constantly battles her impulse to help others. Carly and her friends are all in danger of failing Senior English-and not graduating-if they do not do well on a final exam based on one task alone; the memorization and recitation of a Shakespearean son-net.

Director**Dominic RudinDominic Rudin is in his third and final year at Mill Creek, and has been involved in the department all three of those years. Although Dominic does appreciate teching—gaining specific experience in that field by stage managing the 2014-2015 One Act Competition show Tuna Fish Eulogy, he finds himself most passionate about being onstage. He has been involved in all three musicals while he was at Mill Creek, with parts ranging from Bert Healy, the radio announcer from Annie to Kenickie, from Grease. Through this variety of parts, Dominic has grown to appreciate the versatility of theatre, and has applied that to his own one act. Dominic’s own convictions towards valuing shows that allow for great actor interpretation led him to decide on Fourteen Lines, a show that manages to incorporate a myriad of Shakespearean sonnets into a contemporary setting. This opportunity to direct a show—and star in his fellow director’s show, Power Play—has led Dominic to not only become more aware of the process that is completing a show, but also appreciate every actor for what they are talented at, regardless of the size of the role. “I cannot begin to explain how much I appreciate this opportunity, and I want to thank my cast for their notable dedication to the characters—it’s not easy sounding sincere when reciting a poem that was written nearly 400 years ago.” Dominic will be attending University of Georgia in the fall and enrolling in their Honors Program with a tentative major in Biology and minor in Psychology.

Director**Bradley McGrewBradley McGrew is a senior at Mill Creek High School, and has been a part of the theatre program for four years. He is a Georgia Thespian Officer and is planning to pursue theatre after graduating. Bradley has been heavily involved in the program both on stage and backstage. He has been a technician for multiple shows and is the Construction Crew Chief of the department in charge of construction for all productions here at Mill Creek. Along with the technical side of theatre, Bradley has performed in Trixie the Teen Detective (Ted Nederson), Beauty and The Beast (Captain), Lil Abner (Lonesome Polecat), The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood (Allen Adale), Rapunzel: Untangled (Prince Charles), Little Women (John Brooke), and Grease (Sonny LaTierri). Bradley is extremely blessed to have been given the opportunity to direct this year and work with such a talented group of actors. *KATHERINE ALEXANDERKatherine Alexander earned her teaching certificate attending classes at Gainesville Junior College (where she attended on a full theatre scholarship), UGA and Northwestern University. Certified to teach Theatre, as well as Mathematics, she taught at Hilsman MS, Athens Tech and George Walton Academy. Prior to her arrival at Mill Creek in 2008 she taught theatre full time at Berkmar HS for nine years, directing 46 main stage plays and musicals. This production marks her 29th play/musical here at Mill Creek. She developed a love for theatre in early childhood and has been involved in theatre for over 26 years. Some of her favorite roles as an actress over the years include Dorothy in The Wiz, Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker, Guinevere in Camelot, Dr. Einstein in Arsenic & Old Lace, Dolly in Hello, Dolly!, Mrs. Pearce in My Fair Lady, Maria in The Sound of Music, Dolly in The Matchmaker and The Clown in Reese & Babe. Some of her favorite things about directing are the collaborative process and the unique and interesting challenges that each show present.

Director**Jared HayesJared Hayes has been involved in the Mill Creek theatre department for his entire high school career, and has stared as many different characters in a variety of shows. Jared’s love of making people laugh allowed audiences to fall in love with his performances over and over again. Jared has enjoyed success in both the 6th period production class as well as in the musicals Annie and Grease. While Jared sincerely enjoyed his time spent acting in the department, his greatest accomplishment in his own eyes is directing the 5th period class along with his co-director Chelsea McClendon. Together Jared and Chelsea directed the hilarious Harry’s Hotter at Twilight and now proudly presents The 13 Worst Breakups of All Time. Over the coarse of the year Jared has thoroughly enjoyed his time spent directing the 5th period class and has often referred to it as the most rewarding experience of his life. He cannot put into words how immensely proud he is of all the work his cast has put into the show and cannot thank his co-director and friend Chelsea enough for all that she has done along side him this year. Although Jared is bound for the University of North Georgia the Mill Creek Theatre program will remain close to his heart for many years to come.

Director*Chelsea McClendonChelsea is a graduating senior at Mill Creek High School where she has performed as The Cyclist in Alice in Wonderland and Marmee in Little Women. She will also perform in the Senior Directed One Acts as Mrs. Drew in Fourteen Lines and The Knight in Canned Hamlet. Prior to her entry to Mill Creek High School, Chelsea spent her first three years with her former theatre department at Marcus High School in Dallas, Texas. Some of her favorite roles as an actress include Mrs. Squires in The Music Man, Elaine Harper in Arsenic and Old Lace, and Violet Gray in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown. Her produc-tion experience during her time in high school includes directing Mill Creek’s production of Harry’s Hotter at Twilight with alongside her fellow co-director Jared Hayes.

Chelsea would like to thank Jared Hayes for all of the love and support he has shown over the course of this year, and making her senior year beyond memorable. She would also like to thank the talented students of fifth period for allowing her to be a part of their Theatre experience her senior year and bringing joy to her life everyday.
