COST has offeredhighly detailed the-matic features through-out its twenty-fiveyears in the casinoindustry. Thematicwork in the gamingsegment had been primarily completedutilizing skilled artisansand sculptors. Over thepast few years however,more technologicallyadvanced fabricationtechniques have beenused to deliver trulyunique thematic casinoelements. BuildingInformation Modelingsoftware and automated fabrication equipment are becomingmore prevalent in theme and specialty fabrication.

A recently completed project involving these techniques isthe golden tree in the Soboba Casino Tree Bar. This featureevolved from concept drawings that illustrated a wispy treestructure adorned with lighting and crystal-like beads. The project required complex 3D modeling coordinated betweenCOST, the building architect, and the lighting consultant inorder to ensure the 700 bead strands would hang freely fromthe ceiling above, without touching any portion of the tree orits branches. In addition to 3D modeling, a physical model thatpresented the final coloration and texture was completed. Thiswas required prior to beginning fabrication. Since the tree wasnot species specific, special attention was required to deliver a‘tree-like’ texture, without using specific bark patterns. Oncethe models were approved, the data was used for fabricatingthe structural steel system. The structure was clad with a fiberglass hard coat to provide the rough shaping of the tree.Epoxy applications, administered by COST artisans, were
