Issues for registrants

• Reflects our experience with printed books, especially ONIX

• Education needed!

• Decisions needed on use of prefixes:– Balance between future-proofing and managability

• Decisions concerning metadata:– What applications will there be?

– Is “kernel” metadata absolutely necessary?

– Bibliographers needed

– What are the risks with side-stepping these issues?

Next steps

• Book trade is historically conservative and risk-averse

• Development of new value-added services: a “chicken and egg” process?

• Business model depends on identifying registrants’ current and future needs

• Further pilot registrants welcome
