ATAG LOYALISTS FOILRAINOUT!PLAYERS PLAY THROUGH LIGHTRAIN SHOWER!September 12, 2006By: Don Nichols

    Ansley Tuesday Afternoon Golf Tour

Eleven loyal ATAGers either donned rain gear or opted to usetheir golf umbrellas to play todays match in a light but steadyrain that started right at the first tee time. Though sevenplayers failed to show, the following eleven players refused tolet a light nuisance rainfall (no thunder or lightning) deprivethem of their weekly ATAG experience and successfully foiledthe attempt by the weather gods to rain out the match.

TEAM 2 DOMINATES!Team 2 players Ron Majors, Kevin McGlynn, Don Nichols, and Doug Healy roared to a lopsided victory by coastingthrough the back nine with a score of 9 under and wereceremoniously awarded their brewskies by the losing team ofMike Gaddis, Marty Arnold,David Danzig and draw partnerScotty Greene whose combined best ball net scores resultedin a score of3 over par, tying for worst score of the yearwhich previously was set on 4-18-06 by Andy Tyber, BillMeagher, Brad Reese, and draw partner Tom Player. Arelieved Team 1 was incredulous that their poor play andembarrassing score of 2 under did not result in defeat (exceptfor partner Scotty Greene who couldnt dodge the bullet whenhe was selected as the draw partner). It just goes to show thatthe old adage is still true: no matter how bad you are, or howbad you will be, there is always somebody worse.

MAJORS WINS BOTH LOW NET ANDLOW GROSS! DANZIG CLAIMS TOPSPOT!

Fourteen handicapper Ron Majors rebounded from his backnine score of 47 two weeks prior by firing a resounding 38,essentially blowing away the field and enabling him to win LowNet and pocket the munificent $11 purse for a net 5 underscore as well as earn the prestigious Low Gross honors.

Mudder Majors, playing without either an umbrella or raingear, had no problem finding fairways and greens and evenmanaged to sink a couple of birdie putts along the way.Newcomer David Danzig, a twenty eight handicapper makingonly his second appearance, edged out a relieved ScottyGreene for high score of the day with a blistering 56, givingnotice to perennial winners Craig Sellner and FrankCorriganthat there is a new kid on the block to be reckoned with.

ONLY 2 BIRDIES! NO SHOTS OF THEDAY!

The back nine continued to be stingy in giving up birdies as onlytwo tweeters were recorded on this dayboth by MudderMajors who doubled his total contribution to the Birdie Club. There were no Shots Of The Day reported, perhaps

attesting to the number of high scores on the scorecards.

    OTHER TIDBITS:

The eleven ATAG faithful gathered on the porch and enjoyeda great evening while watching the rain steadily increase inintensity shortly after the conclusion of the match. ATAGhumorists Tom Kisgen and Danny Morris (making a cameoappearance) had some new material that elicited some guffawsfrom the appreciative group. (When you next see them, be sure toask Tom about the honest Walmart greeter and Danny aboutGeorge Bushs strategy for winning the war on terror.

Kudos to Danny Morris for doing such an excellent jobchronicling last weeks play in the Nickelodeon format and forshowing up on the porch while still recovering from sinus

surgery five days earlier. The Editor was so impressed withMorris write up that he offered Mr. Morris a full time position asa feature writer on the Nickelodeon staff. Morris declined, sayingthat he would prefer to continue with Letters to the Editor andother free lance work. (The Editor later learned that Morris hadconfided to someone else that the job just didnt pay enough.)

The Commissioner let it slip later in the evening that it washis birthday and, when asked his age, responded that he was

thankful that he could still say he was a fifty something.(note: despite a suggestion in last weeks issue, no one brought any

birthday gifts for the head ATAGerno sir, not even one, noteven cake and ice cream.)

Thats it for this week. See you next week when we go back tothe friendly front nine. Look for the Call For Players on Monday.THERE ARE ONLY 6 MORE MATCHES IN THE 2006SEASON!
