Dear John Jay Lacrosse Family,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who pur-chased advertisements for this lacrosse media guide. The media guide highlights the John Jay Lacrosse team and program and is distributed at our home games and other events throughout the spring season.

The book continues to be a success and makes a nice memento for the players. The proceeds are used to purchase practice equip-ment, jerseys, team t-shirts, goals, nets, clinics, and other coach-ing tools.

I and my staff look forward to coaching this year’s team of talented players. As in past seasons, the team is excited about the chance of competing at the highest levels this spring.

We are committed to building one of the finest lacrosse programs in Section I. The support of our fans and parents is crucial to that effort. Thank you for that support!

John Jay Varsity Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach Nick Savastano is a physi-cal education teacher at John Jay High School. He has successfully led

his teams to four consecutive Section One Championships in both Class B and Class A. In 2006 he was named Section One Coach of the Year.

Coach Savastano is a graduate of Springfield College where he was an All-American mid-fielders for the the 1994 Division II National Champion team. Prior to that he played la-crosse at Lakeland High School and was a midfielder for the 1989 Empire State Games Hud-son Valley lacrosse team.

He is actively involved in the lacrosse community. In 2001 he was the head lacrosse coach for the Empire State Games Hudson Valley lacrosse team. Before John Jay he was the head coach for White Plains High School and South Hadley High School in Massachusetts.

Coach “Sav” takes pride in leading his team with discipline and hard work. He strongly be-lieves sports provides students with life lessons and experience.. In his ten years, he has sent 24 young men to play at Division I colleges and numerous others to Division II and III schools. You will see his wife, Lisa, and their two children, Nicholas Jr., 5, and 2 year old Dominic, on the sidelines this season cheering on the team.

COACHING STAFF

Geoff Nolan, Assistant Coach Geoff Nolan, Assistant Coach –– 10 10thth year year

John Jay H.S. Graduate, 1987. Played soccer, basketball and lacrosse for his alma mater. He went on to play lacrosse for Hartwick College. Geoff began his coaching career, leading the John Jay J.V. program form 1995 to 1999 – where he posted an impressive 75-5 record – be-

fore becoming an assistant coach of the varsity team in 2000. In 2005, he was named Section One Assistant coach of the Year. When Geoff is not working with Coach Savastano, he spends his free time running the Intex Painting Company.

Vin Savastano, Assistant Coach Vin Savastano, Assistant Coach –– 6 6thth year year

Enters his 6th year as an assistant coach in charge of the defense. A graduate of Lakeland HS, Vin holds a BS degree from Springfield Col-lege in Massachusetts and an MS from Pace University in N.Y. He has been a physical education teacher in the Brewster School District since 1990. Coach Vin has an extensive coaching resume as he enters his 20th year as a varsity lacrosse coach. He has 99 wins as a head coach, and 224 overall as a varsity coach. He started the lacrosse program in Hendrick Hudson H.S. where he was a varsity coach for 9 years. He was voted Coach of the Year in three of his first five years there. He later became an assistant at Brewster H.S. for three years serving as the offensive coordinator in 1999 and 2000 and then as defensive coordinator in 2001. In 1999 Brewster reached the sate sem-finals, and sectional champions in 2000. He has coached the Empire State Games Hudson Valley team for 10 years with two years as head coach. In 2000, he was head coach of the Silver Medal Champion Team. In 2006, Vin was named Section One Assistant Coach of the Year.

Besides coaching lacrosse, Vin has coached football since 1989, coaching four Sectional Champions as well reaching the N.Y. State championship twice. He and his wife Monique, have two children.

Joe Scarsella, Team Manager Joe Scarsella, Team Manager -- 2 2ndnd year year

Joined Coach Savastano’s staff last year assisting with the offense..He has deep roots in the John Jay Lacrosse tradition. He is a charter mem-ber of the program having played on the first John Jay based lacrosse

team in 1977 and 1978 that began as a club team under Coach Bob Kear. As a result, Joe was among the first of a long line of local players to go on and play lacrosse in college, playing from 1979 to 1981 at Syracuse University, where he received a Bachelors Degree in Landscape Architecture. Coach Scarsella lives in town with his wife Lisa, and daughter Samantha.
