MY NICKNAME

IS “tartaglia” because i

have stuttered since then

I have the secret FOR the solution of the cubic equation.

I am famous also for giving a formula for the volume of a tetrahedron and for my studies of ballistics

contests were public events. The challengers chose their rivals. They had to solve many problems and the judges decided the winner.

In the fifteenth century mathematicians competed in mathematic challenges.

In the past mathematicians kept their secret discoveries jealously, in order to use them in contests!

I used to WiN all the times…

Ferrari, a disciple of Cardano (another important italian mathematician)

and I competed in a challenge . it was in Milan. We didn’t fight with swords, but with

our brains!NO! YES!

In this contest we had to solve cubic equations.

I lost it because it was oral (I STUTTERED,

REMEMBER) and I was cheated TOO as i was

robbed of my formulas.

This was the most important contest in the Renaissance.
