Afanasenko Nikolaj Ivanovich was born on November 26, 1949 in Ulyanovsk, where he’s living nowadays.
He is one of the best hockey players, the legend of this sport in our city.Ulyanovsk is proud of this outstanding sportsman.
N.I. Afanasenko played for 23 seasons (1969-1989, 1991, 1994-1996) in the skillful team «Volga».
He was the silver medalist of the Championship of the USSR (1972) and double bronze medalist (1976 and 1977).
N.I. Afanasenko was included in the list of the best hockey players of the country for 5 times(1974, 1976, 1984, 1985, 1987).
The hockey player was the top scorer of the USSR Championships in 1987 and 1988.
He was three-time Champion of the USSR (1970, 1971, 1974).
The sportsman ranks at the second position (611 shoots) in the list of the best hockey scorers of the country.
Since 1995 he has been the coach of the «Volga» team.
Nikolai Afanasenko, who is the legend of the hockey team "Volga" is going to be a toarchbearer at the Olympics-2014.
