The Worlds oldest health-reedom organization or consumers, the National Health Federation has spenenormous man-hours and money on issues concerning Codex Alimentarius since 1996. Our members know thCodex issue inside-and-out, as the NHF has sent delegates to Codex meetings since 2000, submitted scienti

research papers to back up our claims, and has made sure that the NHF is present at the Working Groups thaaect health-reedom issues. We have continuously been persistently vocal and visible at Codex meetings. In the sea o delegate aces at thesmeetings, with most other delegations blissully uncaring or unknowledgeable about the true health benets thaoptimal health and nutrition play in preventing disease, the NHF delegates voices and opinions are critical o

issues such as GM oods, inant ormula contents, organic labeling, aspartame, fuoride, and supplements. Thatmosphere at Codex is oten one o the NHF strongly conronting the anti-health-reedom maority o delegatesand especially with the U.S. FDA and European Commission, who are supposed to be respectively representinthe American and European publics best interests. Unortunately, neither the U.S. FDA nor the EC have ever bee

a riend to health reedom, and they consistently agree to agendas that promotes harmonization.

What lies ahead for individuals who value their current freedom to choose to consume healthy food, take supplementsand use alternative therapies without government restrictions?

What will become of the manufacturers, retailers of innovative food supplements, and the alternative practitionerwho depend upon the availability of these products to keep their customers and patients naturally well?

The road ahead seems overwhelming or individuals who desire and demand reedom o choice when it come

to their health decisions and basic rights in general. Many o us are waking up to a reality, never imagined in ouwildest dreams, that Codex could impact our personal health with its ar-reaching goal o harmonizing the Worland its people, no matter the costs.

The NHF also guarantees that the U.S. Congress in Washington, D.C. can never say that they were uninormeabout a health-reedom issue. How do we do that? By sending each o the 400-plus representatives a copy oeach issue o our quarterly magazine, Health Freedom News. When NHF members contact them, they cannot the

claim to their constituents that a health-reedom topic is oreign to them. Our lobbyist also makes constant visitand calls to their oces.

At Codex we eel that our presence at the meetings is vital and we have noticed that our input has been givenserious credence, especially since (unlike what is available at present) our input is based upon real science and

Unortunately, implementation o this goal has headed in the WRONG DIRECTION. WHY?

Because, among other reasons:

Thedelegatestothecommitteesareregulatorybureaucrats,largelyoutoftouchwithconsumerand infuenced by commercial interests adverse to true health. As a result, they are establishinunhealthy guidelines.

TheU.S.FDAdelegateatCodexisnofriendtohealthfreedom,asshownwhenitannounce

the FDAs intention to harmonize U.S. ood regulations to international standards, a position also took in an October 11, 1995 Federal Register pronouncement.

In1994,Codexbegantheprocessofestablishingguidelinestogoverninternationaltradeiood supplements. This will be used to exclude high-potency American supplements and movtowards harmonization o the more-liberal U.S. ood regulatory regime with the harsh Europearegulatory model that only allows ridiculously low-potency and expensive supplements to b

marketed.

WHy is THE u.s. FdA CodEx dElEGATE NoT FiGHTiNG For your HEAlTH riGHTs ATCodEx?

The U.S. FDA despises the 1994 DSHEA Act which, by removing the FDAs arbitraryenorcemenpowers, has protected our rights to healthy ood supplements. Unortunately, as a cozy riend o the drucompanies and with an anti-supplement mentality, the FDA has acted to suppress supplements in avoo drugs instead. The FDA knows that it is politically dicult to attack DSHEA directly, so it and its allie

try indirectly to eliminate DSHEA by having supplements treated as drugs rather than as oods. The FDis using harsh and restrictive Codex guidelines and other international, anti-health harmonization ruleand regulations as one way to undermine DSHEA.

The NHF has been monitoring Codex meetings since the mid-1990s and actually present at thesemeetings since 2000. Having recognized the threat early on, the NHF obtained ocial Codex-recognizestatus as an INGO (International non-governmental organization), which allows the NHF the right tspeak out or health-reedom at these Codex meetings and against this U.S. FDA and Codex agendaNo other health-reedom organization has such status, so the NHF is unique in this respect and the lonnon-governmental voice at Codex or health reedom.

HoW CAN you AssisT iN EFForTs AGAiNsT THE CorruPT CodEx ProCEss?

First, you must educate yoursel with actual inormation. There is so much misinormation being circulateabout Codex by uninormed and misguided individuals and groups. Visit the NHF website www.thenhcm. Once you have a true understanding o the subect, inorm others, as many people know nothino Codex and its consequences. We would like Codex to become a household word, as the mainstreammedia is keeping a lid on the topic.
