• NGN simply means the migration from the PSTN to an IP based network, International calling IP trunking or IP in the local loop.
• Vendors use the term NGN in their products and providers and operators refer to NGN for marketing purposes.
• For operators in competitive markets, NGNs are considered essential for strategically positioning networks to compete in increasing converged world of services and content (where voice is no longer the sole source of revenue).
• At the market level, NGNs are partially driven by the increased demand for ubiquitous, integrated data, voice and video, mobile and fixed broadband.
The National Telecommunications CommissionThe National Telecommunications Commission
• Existing circuit switched networks will soon become obsolete, as vendors begin to cease their productions, leading to increases of the CAPEX and OPEX.
• For new entrant in fixed line such as TTT Broadband, new networks being established are all IP based.
• For incumbent such as TOT, IP based networks will gradually replace existing circuit switched networks, meaning that NGN networks will coexist with legacy networks for some times to come.
• TOT Corporation Plc. has announced its plan to replace the existing network to NGN starting in 2007 and is expected to spend 3,500 million baht for the first year.
• TT&T has a plan to invest 6,000 million baht in NGN and have already spent 2,500 million baht.
