LARA MENTOR, Simone Fisher landed a double at The Meadows last weekend, with the first of her winners being Lektra Joe. Rated at $10.60 from the two trap, Lektra Joe came out fast and led them to the post the first time, recording 5.10 when ahead of Margherita and Carey Bale. Getting away rounding the first bend after Margherita had been checked out of contention, the Phil Lenehan owned brin-dle dog careered along the back straight, pausing the clock at 17.90, with Where’s Ray four lengths away second and Carey

Bale was making his bid for victory. Even though Carey Bale took plenty of ground off the winner over the closing stages of the Grade 5 event, there was to be no catching Lektra Joe, who scored by a length and three quarters, running the 525 metres journey in 30.54, while the luckless Where’s Ray wound up third, a

length further astern. A July 2010 whelp by Mogambo out of Uno Nan, Lektra Joe has raced five times for two wins and two placings, tak-ing his earnings to $5,762.50. SKY CHANNEL’S Group race night hostess, Simone realised her double when Abrasive Manner led from pillar to post in the 525 metres AWM Electrical Grade 5, taking her strike rate to 14.29% this year. With a good turn of early pace, Abra-sive Manner sped from the two trap and found the fence to register a smart 5.05 a lap out, with Jimi Krakcorn doing the seri-ous chasing and Bouncer Norris was third. Still going powerfully along the Camp Road side of the course, the Vee-Ar Syn-dicate’s racer was a length clear of Jimi Krakcorn with the clock showing 17.86, and Bouncer Norris was third, still near enough to score. Although the gap was narrowing as they neared the line, the black and white son of Path To Power clung on for a neck victory over Jimi Krakcorn in 30.38, while there was three lengths to third placed Bouncer Norris. Abrasive Manner has raced on 30 occasions for eight wins and six placings, whilst he made it one win from three at-tempts at the Broadmeadows layout. Good thing salutes CRONOS BALE was considered by many good form students as being the bet of the night after drawing the coveted rails alley in the ‘lucky last’, a Grade 5.

Prepared at Anakie by ‘Team Dailly’, Cronos Bale isn’t the quickest beginner but has a good turn of mid-race pace that consistently puts him in a winning posi-tion.

Beautifully bred by Bombastic Shiraz from Gold Rush Bale, the Paul Wheeler owned black chaser was third into the first

turn behind White Wizard (5.09) and Bur-cov Nicole.

But after taking closer order along the back, he swept past Burcov Nicole and had a one length advantage at the next checkpoint, while White Wizard had been cheeked but was still third.

Backed into $3.20 to land the AJS Corporation Grade 5, punters started to queue-up early, as Cronos Bale ran 30.19 to hit the line five and three quarter lengths ahead of Burcov Nicole, with Nugget Choice rallying home for third, a length and a half away.

The last leg of a ‘Team Dailly’ treble, Cronos Bale has won three of his dozen starts at the track and distance, whilst career-wise his stats reveal five wins and seven placings from 20 outings.

ALWAYS in the red to take out the opening event, the 725 metres Handicap race, Fyna Bale didn’t let her supporters down.

And she kick-started what turned out to be a good night’s work for Anakie mob.

From the 9 metre mark, Fyna Bale ($1.90) broke the line sweetly but was outpaced by Lady Grey, with Sequoia third heading into the initial corner.

But the check vested Fyna Bale ran past Lady Grey rounding the first bend and broke away before reaching the split markers in 15.74 and then extended her advantage to more than four lengths com-ing off the back in 29.42.

With the second pick, Lektra Jay ($3.20) a spent force, it wasn’t until the home turn that a danger appeared on the scene.

Hooking out to the centre of the track, Double Champ rattled home but failed by a neck to catch Fyna Bale, who recorded 42.75, while Lektra Jay finished third, a half length further adrift.

Racking-up a double for Paul Wheeler, Fyna Bale, a member of the fabulous Bartrim Bale and Amelia Bale litter that included record breakers

Beckim Bale and Heston Bale, has graced the track 39 times for 10 wins and 10 placings, netting $52,920 in stakes along the way.

DYNA DRAGO was the Daillys other winner when he ran home powerfully to annex the Fitzy No. 1 Whitey Grade 5 over 525 metres to keep his unbeaten record intact at four from four.

Raced by Brendan Wheeler, the son of Bombastic Shiraz and Dyna Panama was seventh behind the front running Edith Bale in 5.11 a lap out but pushed the pedal to the metal and had railed to the lead down the back, clocking 18.07 at the next corner.

With Edith Bale offering no real resis-tance and nothing from the back doing enough to score, the June 2010 black whelp notched his third Meadows victory by two lengths in 30.38, downing Edith Bale and Lektra Ice, who ran third, over six lengths further afield. Record remains intact ALL THE RAGE at $1.50 to take out the Sky Racing Grade 5 final, Ima Geisha Girl pinged the lids from the widest draw and was on the fence in the lead at the post the first time, running 5.04.

After haring along the back straight, the Jason Thompson trained speedster recorded a fast 17.65 to hold a four lengths break over Our Buddy and Em-ryst Bale.

But it was no contest in the run to the judge, with the Reg Kay owned daughter of Bombastic Shiraz and Elite Oriental running out a seven lengths winner over Our Buddy in a new PB and Best Of Night 29.85, while Emryst Bale was a half head away third. At her ninth raceday appearance, Ima Geisha Girl took her career stats to seven wins from nine attempts and kept her record intact on the track, whilst the $10,000 winner’s cheque took her earn-ings to $32,630.

THE MEADOWS

Jason Thompson’s elite team comprises possibly three of Australia’s best sprinting bitches, El Brooklyn, Peggy May and rising star, Ima Geisha Girl. The latter raised her status by keeping her perfect record at The Meadows intact with a superb all the way BON and new PB 29.85 win in the Sky Racing Grade 5 final. The beautifully bred bitch, winner of the Bendigo Gold Rush Maiden series in April, is raced by Reggie Kay and is a daughter of Bombastic Shiraz and Elite Oriental. She now has the impressive stats of seven wins from only nine starts.

AT THIS moment, Sydney’s best sprinter title would probably be split between Oaks Road and Bye Bye Bucks, however, the Lorraine Roy trained Garlett is only a breath away from the top spot.

The son of Collide has come back from a short let-up in super form and his strong win at Wen-tworth Park last Friday night made it four wins from his five most recent runs, including the last three in succession. Competing in the Free For All over 520 metres, there was plenty of early pace, with Garlett not as well served as at most starts.

From box seven Garlett was away in the second half of the field, with Bolt Lock Bolt best into stride from box two and Kyl’s Me Girl in the green rug with Chenzhou Boy in the pink also crashing across the face of the field.

As they bunched nearing the first corner, Garlett took off and was able to scout around the pack, along with Chenzhou Boy, and they raced to the back together. Chenzhou Boy took up the front running role down the back, however, Garlett was in close proximity and a big finish was imminent.

Turning for home Chenzhou Boy led from Garlett, who quickly moved alongside and they battled it out to the line. Doing a bit the better, Garlett got the judges nod over Chenzhou Boy by a head in 30.22, with Thrilling Fonz back in third place, a further one and a half lengths away.

Garlett, from a January 2009 litter of Evil Lyn, has now had 28 career starts for 17 wins and three placings.

Chenzhou Boy (Bombastic Shiraz x Ocean Song), trained by Luke Azzopardi, has had 66 ca-reer starts with 17 wins and 27 placings, whilst the Troy Mac-donald prepared Thrilling Fonz (Bombastic Shiraz x Tarawi Tess) after 49 career starts has gathered 14 wins and 15 placings.

ANOTHER CHASER that will definitely make the top grade is the Steve White trained Ama-deus Strikes, who made it two wins from three starts in recent weeks at headquarters.

This 28kg son of Bombastic Shiraz ticks most boxes with good early pace and possesses a strong finish, whilst the winning time of 30.11 is her best to date at Wen-tworth Park. From the start of the Betfair Stake, Admadeus Strikes was well into stride from box five, as too was Proven Cue in the blue vest.

Leaving the straight Proven Cue held a slight advantage over Amadeus Strikes, with a gap to Phantoms in third spot.

Proven Cue was under pres-sure from Amadeus Strikes com-

ing off the top bend and down the side Amadeus Strikes rolled to the front. Turning for home Amadeus Strikes kicked away, while a late swooper, Proven Pontiac was running on from well back.

At the judge Amadeus Strikes was a two lengths winner over Proven Pontiac, while Phantoms was back in third spot, a further one and three quarter lengths away. Amadeus Strikes (x Forgetful Lucy) has now had 14 starts for seven wins and four placings.

Proven Pontiac, who has col-lected a place cheque at her past five starts for trainer, Simon Gafa, has had 43 career starts with seven wins and 15 placings, whilst the Paul Bigeni trained Phantoms (Surf Lorian x Kite Street) has contested 27 races for four wins and seven placings.

THE JUDGE had his work cut out in the 520 metrews Cen-trebet Stake when the barest of margins was found, giving the Adam Wade trained Tanarama Glamma a nose verdict. After a moderate beginning, Tanarama Glamma mustered pace from box eight and crossed to the front at the first turn.

They raced at tight quarters behind the pacesetter, and as they fanned both Irinka Luca and My Jabulani got the run through to give chase. Down the back Tanarama Glamma led with My Jabulani working into second spot and looking likely to rein-in the leader.

That duo came around the home turn together and then staged a great battle in the run home. Tanarama Glamma was able to just hold on and win by the tiniest margin over My Jabulani in 30.25, with Two Tree Hill run-ning into spot, a half length fur-ther back. Tanarama Glamma, by Big Daddy Cool out of Scar Crash, to date has had 39 career starts for 13 wins and nine placings.

My Jabulani (Spiral Nikita x Betty’s Angel) for trainer, Mark Azzopardi, has produced 10 wins and 14 placings from 38 career starts, whilst the Charlie Lamb trained Two Tree Hill (Bombastic Shiraz x One Tree Hill) from 28 starts has snared nine wins and 10 placings.

Top NSW racer, Oaks Road powered to another high energy victory in the 520 metres Free For All last Saturday night. In a classy event, the in-form chaser ran 29.93 on a very wet racing surface.

Lat Friday night, El Caballo opened Wentworth Park’s meeting with a brisk new PB 29.96 success in a 5th Grade heat for Doreen Drynan. It took the son of El Galo and Eluthra’s record to nine wins from 44 attempts.

‘TEAM WHEELER’ added an-other Group 1 scalp to the trophy cabinet at Wentworth Park last Saturday night when Garrick Bale scored a dominant all way victory in the Rapidvite Peter Mosman final. The win made it back to back successes in the GBOTA’s time honoured age classic following on from last year with Allen Harper. The punters kept lobbying the Kel Greenough trained Odie For Now as their popular pick for the $75,000 first prize, but as the rain kept falling over the Glebe circuit, it was a heavy track that had some scribes cautious that the rails box may not be the best alley to navi-gate, so there was some late sup-port for both Bye Bye Bucks and Garrick Bale. At boxrise it was Odie For Now who was caught flat-footed while Garrick Bale in the green rug came out charging, as too did both Proven Maddy and Bye Bye Bucks. Racing into the first turn Gar-rick Bale gained the ascendancy, with Proven Maddy and Bye Bye Bucks racing tight, and when they came together it gave the leader the opportunity of pinching a win-ning break. Garrick Bale led by six lengths down the back, with Bye Bye Bucks rebalancing to give chase but was setting the leader far too much of a start. Garrick Bale turned for home with the first prize all sewn up, while Bye Bye Bucks was battling away to hold down second and Proven Maddy charged home late. At the post Garrick Bale was a seven lengths winner over the fast finishing Proven Maddy, who got up to gain second spot by a nose in front of Bye Bye Bucks. The 520 metres trip was

clocked in 29.93, which was the black chaser’s identical time he ran in the previous week’s semi-final. Garrick Bale, trained in Victo-ria by Andrea Dailly, is by Go Wild Teddy out of Dyna Celeste, and after 17 starts has produced 10 wins and four placings.

Proven Maddy made it a Vic-torian quinella, and trainer, Wayne Vassallo has raced the son of El Galo and Proven Lilly 23 times for 11 wins and six placings, whilst Bye Bye Bucks (Bit Chili x See Ya Senorita), trained by Ken Lewis has had 31 career starts for 15 wins and eight placings.

Also running the 520 metres in 29.93 was Oaks Road, who scored a runaway win in the star sprinter’s first run in five weeks. COMPETING in the Free For All, Oaks Road came up with the prized rails alley and punters had him well in the red in a field of just six runners. Boxrise saw Oaks Road jump only moderately, with the speedy Wez Da Risk spearing out from box four and leading into the first turn.

Leaving the straight Oaks Road had held out the other wider drawn rivals and worked along the fence to sneak past Wez Da Risk as they headed to the back. Oaks Road got clear of Wez Da Risk down the back, with Young Snozz working into third spot and the remainder well strung out.

Down the side Oaks Road was heading for his 11th win at head-quarters, while Wez Da Risk was next, with Young Snozz looking for a rails run to finish the race off strongly. In the home straight Oaks Road was all over a winner and greeted the judge a four and a half lengths victor over Young Snozz, with Krazy Fraz also running on into third place, one and a quarter lengths away. Raced by Eddie Kingswell, the November 2008 son of Spiral Nikita and Leprechaun Pace is now over the $350,000 level in prizemoney, and for trainer, Mark Gatt has had 47 career starts yield-ing 19 wins and 16 placings.

Young Snozz (Collision x Special Osti), trained by Jason Mackay, has had 45 career starts for 15 wins and 19 placings, whilst the Ron Bell prepared Krazy Fraz (Hallucinate x Cawbourne Fraz) has had 45 career starts for 17 wins and six placings.

Nationals news TRAINERS should take note that the NSW qualifying events for this year’s Nationals will be conducted at the Bullis, so greyhounds will be able to race on a large one-turn track, similar to Hobart, where this year’s series will be determined. The sprint journey at Bulli will be 472 metres whilst the stayers journey will cover a new distance at the course of 701 metres. Heats will be held at the Slacky Flat circuit on Monday, August 6, which will have all in readiness for the Grand Finals on August 25. The Bulli Club will conduct prelude races on July 23 and 30 over both distances should nomi-nations permit.

At the post-race Peter Mosman presentation surrounded by officials and sponsor, Rapidvite’s Peter Bryce, Brenda Wheeler and Garrick Bale took centre stage, with runner-up Proven Maddy (left) and third placed Bye Bye Bucks to the right. It was a game victory by the Andrea Dailly prepared chaser, who handled the wet conditions perfectly and led all the way to record 29.93 for the 520 metres trip.

BACK-SLAPPERS and well-wishers came from everywhere at Albion Park last Thursday night to congratulate popular Mick Patterson after his grand galloper, He Knows Uno had swept to victory in the Group 1 Gold Cup.

In the process, Mick was happy to silence the doubters, who believed He Knows Uno could not stay.

And Mick was quick to describe it as his biggest thrill in greyhound racing. Mick and wife, Lillian bred, own and

train the son of Primo Uno and Honey-moon’s Over, who came from midfield to wear down early leader, Double Jeopardy to win by two and three quarter lengths, with a length and a quarter to Abby Shi-raz third.

Hot favourite, Miata was checked out of the boxes and never really got into the final, finishing fifth.

The Patterson’s come from the sleepy seaside town of Iluka, on the NSW Northern Rivers, but Mick admits to being a Queenslander at heart.

“I even cheer for Queensland in the State of Origin,” said Mick.

He Knows Uno, his beloved grey-hound, took his record to 62 starts for 27 wins with 25 placings and earnings of $357,474, with the victory being his sec-ond Group 1 following the 2010 Brisbane Cup over 520 metres.

The victory took him to 21st on the all-time money winning list in Australia, ahead of such notables as Bombastic Shiraz, Flying Amy, Miata, Highly Blessed, Queen Lauryn, etc.

“That should silence the doubters,” said Mick. “I know everyone has believed he would not stay, but I was never one of them.”

Mick believed He Knows Uno was a certainty in his heat the previous week but admitted that last Thursday night’s rich final “was a different matter”.

“But when he got up so close so early, I had to check which number it was,” said Mick.

“I wasn’t sure it was him. I said to

myself ‘that can't be him’.” Patterson admitted he had been

suffering from the stress of training He Knows Uno in recent times.

“I feel right now like retiring him,” he said. “It’s too much stress.”

But then upon reflection, Mick admit-ted it was something he would put up with.

Immediate plans will be to run the dog in this week’s 710 metres Superstay-ers a four-dog invitation race at Albion Park.

Patterson has said for the past cou-ple of weeks how well He Knows Uno had done leading into the Gold Cup series.

“He couldn’t contain himself,” said Mick. “I couldn’t have him any better.” Double Jeopardy led out from his rails draw.

Miata was checked and found herself checked coming to the first turn.

He Knows Uno had got to fourth by the catching pen, and with his customary powerful finish unwinding, he was always going to be hard to hold out.

The winner ran the 710 metres jour-ney in 41.78, easily his best time for the distance.

He has raced five times over 710 metres at Albion Park for four wins and a second.

Part-owner and trainer, Paul Stuart said Miata was checked at the jump, but he offered no excuses.

“She seems okay but we won’t know for sure until tomorrow,” he said.

He headed home to WA and said he would see what the future holds for the star staying bitch. Geoff re-groups GEOFF ALLEN always seems able to find himself a good race dog.

Hanson Senor (Give Me Five - Han-son Charm) is his latest, and the dog proved that when winning the Flying Amy Classic over 520 metres at Albion Park last Thursday night.

But “three or four years ago” Geoff was almost out of greyhound racing for good. He’d had enough and decided to take a break, drive around Australia on a holi-day, and refresh. It was just what he needed. Hanson Senor was given little chance by Allen. He scored by two lengths over early leader, Andiamo in a fast 29.99, with two and three quarter lengths to third placed Bogie Dawn. Hanson Senor came out of the seven trap and that was the cause of concern for Allen. “I really didn’t think he would get across early,” said Geoff. “I pictured him being midfield and trying to crash to the rail.” Fortunately for Allen, Hanson Senor began well and got to a clear second behind Andiamo at the first turn. The leader kicked clear into the back straight but the powerful finisher, Hanson Senor had his measure on the home turn. “If he gets left alone early, he can really do some-thing,” said Geoff. “That’s the secret to him, and tonight he got left alone early.” Hanson Senor added yet another feature race victory to his growing tally. He has already won a Young Guns final, finished second in another, and was “flattened” in the Queensland Derby final. Allen has been training for 35 years. He bred dam, Hanson Charm, a moderately per-formed galloper, to be a

brood bitch, and when he mated her to Give Me Five it was to cross the half-brothers, champions Brett Lee and Big Daddy Cool.

Hanson Senor will now go on to the upcoming Group 1 Winter Cup at Albion Park. Tom finds space BUNDABERG breeders, Steve and Leonie Driver became insistent, and fi-nally top trainer, Tom Noble couldn’t hold them off any longer.

The Drivers have been producing some pretty handy greyhounds on their property just outside of Bundaberg, a four hour drive from Brisbane.

They have a greyhound breeding establishment that doubles as a domestic boarding kennel.

Steve and Leonie bred a litter by Big Daddy Cool from Four Way Dream and asked Tom Noble to break them in.

A fawn dog in the litter was some-thing else.

They wanted Tom to train him but just at that time Noble had no vacancies in his now small training establishment.

The Drivers named him Four Way Ibizan and gave him to Paul Bateman to train, on the proviso that Noble was to get the dog once room came in the kennel.

That happened last week after Four Way Ibizan won a Maiden at Albion Park

on the Monday night. Tom took him over immediately and

the dog backed-up last Thursday night to run a fast 30.22 when landing a 520 mertes Novice.

Four Way Ibizan scored by a length and three quarters over Super Earner, with three quarters of a length to Pedro’s First third.

“I knew he could gallop from the time we broke him in, and Leonie asked me to train him,” said Tom. “But I didn't have any room.”

Paul Bateman took the dog on for a couple of starts until I got room.

“After Monday it was obvious I needed to find room.”

Noble says Four Way Ibizan has always shown great potential.

“He could be really something, this dog,” said Tom.

“He’s a bit slow early but runs on very strongly. He will get 600 metres later on for sure.”

Four Way Ibizan was never sighted at his first two starts.

“I knew how good he was so I kept an eye on the dog,” said Tom. “He was looming up in both those early races but was stopped in his tracks with interfer-ence.” “Then his run on Monday night was great and he was well backed.”

“WESTMEAD OSPREY is one of the very, very best greyhounds I’ve had and

always raced against the best. Have a look at his form and his pedigree and it tells you

everything you need to know about him. He had more than

his share of injuries and always came back to racing.

They never affected him. Always chased and in fact is one of the best chasers I’ve ever had”, NICK SAVVA

JUST AS FANCY confirmed his status as one of the most promising pups in Tas-mania when he led all the way to win the Division 3 final of the TGOTBA series at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last Thursday night. The Beau Shanahan trained dog was having only his third start in the state and had no trouble keeping his unbeaten record intact. Just As Fancy (Premier Fantasy - Flash Fancy) won at his first try in the state in a Juvenile event over 452 metres

at Devonport, and at his subsequent out-ing he toyed with his rivals to win his heat of the TGOTBA series last Thursday

week, running a slick 26.13 at his first try on the track. Whilst his time was slower in winning the final (26.31), it did not detract from the way in which he went about taking care of a very strong field of juvenile performers. He began well from box three but the second favourite, Millie Minor quickly moved alongside, and the well fancied pair powered their way to the home turn with little separating the two outstanding pups. But in the home straight Just As Fancy answered the challenge and went on to defeat Millie Minor by a length, with the reserve, Lashing Lil almost two lengths away third. Shanahan believes Just As Fancy has a bright future. “He had only one look at the track before he tackled the heat, and to run that time (26.13) first-up was a good effort,” Shanahan said. “He has terrific manners and he runs a straight line, no matter what box he starts from, and that’s going to take him a long way.” “He’s a genuine dog that has plenty of strength, and he showed that tonight when Millie Minor came at him strong in the straight,” he said. Just As Fancy is owned by the trainer's wife, Mary. The dog was bred in New South Wales, where he was raised and broken in by Denis Barnes. “We’ve had the dog about two months and he had a couple of starts at Dubbo in NSW, but the plan was always to get him a bit of race experience before he was sent home to us,” he said. Shanahan has been training for over 40 years, with most of his time spent in NSW. He packed up and moved to Tasma-nia about four years ago, and when his

handy dog, Monster Prince was retired, he took a year off. “I always said that when Monster Prince stopped acing I’d take a break, and that’s what I did.” “I love this caper and I’ve usually been able to have at least one fairly good one in the kennel,” he said. Good things come in small packages THEY say that good things come in small packages, and such is the case with im-proving chaser, Shanlyn Poh, who scored another impressive win at Tattersall’s Park last week. Shanlyn Poh delivered a knockout blow to some of the state’s most exciting sprinters when he led all the way to take out the Division 1 final of the TGOTBA series over 461 metres. The Graeme Moate trained dog made full use of the inside box to lead after 80 metres, and he kept extending his advantage, eventually going on to score by two and a half lengths from New Recruit, with the improving Claire Delune a length astern, just in advance of the fast-finishing Collyn Tiger. “This dog has kept improving, and while he is only small, he has good man-ners, and now that he is coming to terms with the rigors of racing, he is putting the wins on the board,” Moate said. “He has always shown something, but he was just so green early on, but he has the makings of a top grader.” Shanlyn Poh (Big Daddy Cool - Shanlyn Lass) was bred in Victoria and is raced by his breeders, the Houndog Syn-dicate, of which Shannon Larsen is Man-ager. Moate is hoping Shanlyn Poh can continue to hold his form, with the heats of the Tasmanian Derby his next assign-ment.

But he also has pencilled-in the state heats of the National Sprint Champion-ship in August. “We’ve got the National Sprint final in our own backyard this year, so we might as well have a crack at that, provided the dog is going well enough at the time,” Moate said. Shanlyn Poh has raced 18 times for 10 wins and four minor placings, earning about $15,000 in stakes. Awesome in final IF there were any doubts about the bona fides of well bred dog, Intense Suspense, then they were dispelled in Hobart last Thursday night. Intense Suspense scored arguably a career best win when he came from well back to take out the Division 2 final of the TGOTBA series over 461 metres. The Rod Ransley trained dog was slowly away from box two and settled down a clear last. He made up ground by railing through to midfield nearing the home turn, but another check sent him backwards into what looked a non-winning position turning for home. But he weaved a passage through the field, firstly scouting around those dropping back before darting back to the fence at the top of the straight. The son of Where's Pedro and Cold Ethyl then motored home to score by almost three lengths over Franklyn Bluboy and the talented Magic Moss. Connections are contemplating mov-ing to middle distances before trying him over the longer trip, with the intent of tackling the National Distance Champion-ship series.

The Hobart club will host the Nation-als in August, with the sprint and distance finals to be held over 461 metres and 709 metres respectively on August 25.

DEUTRONIUM made it four wins in succession demolishing a good field to win the $12,000 Solo Mandurah Oaks by five lengths in a slick 27.49.

The April 2010 daughter of Made to Size and Nice Portrait has been on fire for trainer, John Iwanyk, only lowering her colours at one of her six WA outings. On Friday Deutronium took her place in the inside box, with the weight of expectation on the $1.20 elect.

The favourite jumped fairly in THE red VEST and landed behind Layout and Smashing Gypsy, who

were going full throttle from the word go. Passing the 405 metres boxes and onto the back straight, Layout was showing the way by a length over Deutronium, who had railed ahead of Smashing Gypsy.

It was still Layout in charge as they entered the sweeping bend, with Deutronium hot on her hammer.

Take a Guess moved up to third and was now three lengths off the pace. Deutronium got to the lead railing past a drifting Layout, and with the home turn in view, Take Guess was the only possible danger.

However, Deutronium stretched out in fine style, extending her win-ning margin to five lengths.

Take A Guess overcame Layout to run a solid second, with Bally Swift a distant fourth. Iwanyk will now head to the WA Oaks with his talented bitch, who has now won nine of her 22 career out-ings, amassing $26,000 in stakes for connections. UNO RELTUB, the 405 metres track record holder at Mandurah, had another crack at adding the 490 me-tres record to his CV, falling short of Sassy Guess’ mark by one length.

Sent out the $1.20 favourite, the Linda Britton trained sprinter demol-ished a Free To All field by 12 lengths, running 27.26. The earner of over $100,000 has now won 11 of 13 races over the 490 metres journey in a career that has seen the WA bred chaser score 26 times from 53 starts with 17 placings.

Britton blitz FOR THE FOURTH TIME in her career, WA’s leading trainer, Linda Britton put the polish on six winners at a Cannington Saturday night meet-ing.

It continues her domination at headquarters, where she has as many winners as the combined totals of the

next three trainers on the premiership ladder. Revealed put in a slashing run in Grade 5 company to salute in a new PB of 30.67, in what looked a great final hit-out before the heats of the WA Oaks this Saturday.

The daughter of Bombastic Shi-raz and Stylish Scene is developing a bit more steel in the final section, with maturity, to combine with her excellent early split. Revealed was a $6.20 hope in the first leg of the Quaddie, with fellow Oaks hopeful, Roxy Mac installed as the $2.80 favourite.

Revealed broke well dressed in blue garb and led them out of the straight the first time, with Lilly Was Here crossing form wide to be sec-ond. It was single file down the back, with Revealed in her preferred pace-setting role two lengths clear of Lilly Was Here and Hallpack Jimmy enter-ing the final bend in 18.99.

Revealed turned for home nicely clear, and despite being closed down in the run to the judge, won by three quarters of a length to Lilly Was Here, with two lengths to Hallpack Jimmy. ANOTHER OAKS hopeful took out the 11th race for Linda Britton.

Third String (Where's Pedro - Casey’s Angel) notched her second win from five outings in a Provincial Grade 5. The $5.70 hope was in a five-way charge for the front, managing to cross and lead them into the first turn.

Third String took a three lengths break out of the catching pen and extended her advantage over Chaser Lesson leaving the back.

Lion King came home well to reduce the margin to two and half lengths, with the winner recording a new PB of 30.97. ALSO SALUTING for the Brit-ton kennel were Mungo Man (30.79), Vee Ate Mate (30.99), Oenophiliac (31.18) and Aye Aye Captain (37.95). JOHN IWANYK continued his push to unseat Paul Stuart for second place on the Cannington trainer’s leader board, putting the polish on duo of winners last weekend.

Kid Cudi brought up his 16th career victory, dashing away for a five lengths win over Bollenhagen in Best Of Night 30.61. TALENTED Pedro’s Finest broke through for a deserved win, demolishing a novice field of stayers by eight lengths in 42.18.

The win was good reward for consistent form over the middle dis-tance in previous weeks, including being the runner up to Dollstan Cruise in the Paradise Street Trophy.

WA Oaks - Whelping Date PLEASE NOTE that some versions of the 2011/2012 AGRA Group Race Calendar show the WA Oaks being a 1/11/2009 whelping date race. This is incorrect and the race is for bitches whelped on or after 1/12/2009 as per the nomination form. All Age Restricted Group races are res tr ic ted to greyhounds no older than 30 months on the first day of the month in which the heats of the event are scheduled.

RON BELL had a great week on the train-ing front, with a winner in town and then a most impressive victory at Unibet Gar-dens last Wednesday night via Our Money Box. The brindle chaser comes from a litter that is making its mark in the winners circle, being from a May 2010 whelp of Collision and Tifi, making her a full sister to recent Magic Maiden winner, Tifia. Competing in the Newcastle Herald Final over 515 metres, Our Money Box was smartly away from the four alley and led her rivals into the first bend, with Cool Senorita and Cypress Hill next in line, while Nitro Nymph was wider out but moving forward. Going down the back Our Money Box was clicking over smart sections and led nicely from Cool Senorita, with Nitro Nymph next.

Down the side the leader was travel-ling like a winner, and with only a late challenge coming from Meagan Robbo, who never looked likely to threaten the result. Down the straight Our Money Box was in control and hit the line three lengths clear of Meagan Robbo in a quite smart 29.91, with Nitro Nymph a neck away third. In her short career, Our Money Box has had nine starts for four wins and three placings.

Meagan Robbo (Bit Chili x Miss Sort), trained by Eileen Robertson, has had 12 starts for a win and seven plac-ings, whilst the Beau Hedley prepared Nitro Nymph (Head Bound x Natalia) from 20 starts to date has recorded two wins and 10 placings.

MARK ARNCLIFFE made a success-ful trip north in wet conditions to train a quinella when Teddie Boy was too strong for his littermate in the Sky Racing Stake over 515 metres. Donning the white vest, Teddie Boy was away with the others but showed

sufficient dash to be just behind the early leader, Cash Or Credit by the time they reached the first turn. They broke clear of their rivals leav-ing the straight, with Cash Or Credit in front, however, Teddie Boy always looked to have the leader’s measure. Coming down the side Teddie Boy issued his challenge and turning for home gave Cash Or Credit the slip, while Geb-bie Blue was running on stoutly. In the run to the judge Teddie Boy did it sweetly, scoring by two and three quarter lengths from Gebbie Blue in a new personal best 29.87, with third placed Cash Or Credit a further five lengths astern. Teddie Boy and Gebbie Blue are by Velocette out of Direct Lass, with the winner having had 18 career starts for five wins and four placings, whilst Gebbie Blue has produced three wins and seven placings from 16 career starts.

Trained by Chad Garrard, Cash Or Credit (Paddy’s Flame x Umbrella) to date has had 22 career starts for three wins and eight placings.

ROCKET POINT is somewhat of a track specialist, as the son of Pure Oc-tane scored his sixth win at the Newcastle venue.

Trained by Gary Ernst, Rocket Point has won from all boxes except the red, and this victory made it back to back wins over the 515 metres course. When the lids opened Rocket Point was slow into stride from box four, with the inside drawn Yoit best to begin, along

with the extreme drawn pair of Mickey Lee and Majic Tyne. Leaving the straight Yoit kept the inside running, with Magic Tyne giving chase, while Rocket Point gained a run through and slotted into third spot.

This trio maintained their order to the home turn, where the chasers started to close on the leader.

Down the home running there was three across the track, with Rocket Point finishing the better and grabbing the front in the shadows of the post. Rocket Point got up to win by a half length from Yoit in 30.29, with Majic Tyne a neck away third. Rocket Point, from a litter of Lucy Jet, to date the three year-old chaser has had

59 career starts for nine wins and 18 placings.

Yoit (Give Me Five x Go Wild Franky), prepared by Mark Arncliffe, after 50 career starts has gathered eight wins and 10 placings, whilst Majic Tyne (Cool Mat x Santee Larricki) has produced four wins and eight placings from 18 starts for trainer, Gary Robertson.

C O N T R O L BODY, Rac-ing Queen-sland has announced a prizemoney increase for the three codes of racing in this state.

The total is $3.5 million, of which greyhounds and harness will each receive $400,000.

The increases start on Septem-ber 1.

Given that greyhounds generate the second highest betting turnover on the TAB, some might argue it isn’t fair for harness to be allocated the same amount of increase.

At the end of the day though, the $400,000 for the greyhounds is a fair share of the $3.5 million being made available.

Greyhound and harness turn-over will never go close to what the thoroughbreds attract, and we have to simply live with that fact.

The $400,000 is 11.4% of $3.5 million, and that’s about what the greyhound code contributes to over-all turnover.

There won’t be a prizemoney increase, in the strict sense of the word.

The plan is to add extra race meetings to the greyhound TAB schedule.

So where will these meetings be held?

Given that the greyhound popu-lation in Rockhampton and Towns-ville couldn’t sustain extra meetings, it’s has to be Ipswich and/or Albion Park.

They are the only two TAB tracks left in south-east Queen-sland.

Gone are the Gold Coast, B e e n l e i g h , L a w n t o n a n d Toowoomba, which were once vi-brant racing centres.

Currently, Albion Park stages four meetings per week, on Monday,

Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, whilst Ipswich races on Tuesday and Friday.

Albion Park has to fit in with the harness schedule of racing on Tues-day and Saturdays.

The $400,000 should enable around 30 additional race meetings per year and it would seem logical that Ipswich will be the venue for the majority of the additional dates.

But which day? The obvious choice is Saturday,

and that’s something various Ips-wich committees have been striving for since Saturday night racing fin-ished at the Showgrounds in 1998, to fit in with the Sky Racing televi-sion schedule.

Ideally, for the purpose of conti-nuity, you’d like to see an additional meeting each week in the same timeslot.

That may not be possible, but let’s be thankful for small mercies.

Ipswich greyhound racing, Sat-urday twilight, on Sky Racing 2.

Now I like the sound of that! Can it happen? KEEN greyhound follower, Wayne Gaddes recently contacted me with his vision for greyhound racing at Ipswich.

His idea involves extra racing, but not quite as proposed by Racing Queensland’s latest announcement.

Gaddes suggests Saturday night non-TAB racing, with an all-Maiden card, be staged.

“Get a couple of bookies to field, open the whole field up at even money and then react to the market.”

“It would bring back many of the greyhound followers who work and don’t like going out midweek.”

Other benefits as seen by Gad-des include bringing new people via syndication into the game; reinstate the revenue stream the club used to have on Saturday nights with meal

deals, etc.; show the greyhound community that other people are interested in what they do.”

Gaddes also suggests finding sponsors for $500 each per race.

“This is Ipswich; things happen here. Get the Mayor, Paul Pisasale and the council involved too.”

I applaud the enthusiasm of Gaddes, and I’d love to see a return to a packed house at the Ipswich Showgrounds on a Saturday night, with bookies and all the trimmings.

But it can’t happen! There are no bookmakers

around nowadays. Well, none that want to take on

greyhound racing. Albion Park and Ipswich can’t

attract a bookmaker to field at their current meetings, even with the incentive of no fielding fees.

As for finding a sponsor at $500 per race, well, every club in the land would like that to happen.

But it’s a dream too. Let’s hope that some Saturday

meetings come the way of Ipswich, and that the club and the industry makes the most of that opportunity. Info session I MENTIONED RECENTLY that there is a greyhound section at the Brisbane Show, or the “Ekka”, in August.

Two information sessions will be held at Capalaba this weekend to inform people of what’s involved with participating.

These sessions will be after this Saturday’s race meeting (June 23) and after the Sunday morning trials on June 24.

Go to the website www.greyhoundstakes.com to find more information and details on how to enter greyhounds for the Show. Consider this Why are round pizzas always in a square box?

DAPTO staged its regular meeting last Thursday night after days of heavy rain, however, the track was in great order and a credit to the highly competent track staff is in order. A recent contributor to middle dis-tance racing, the Clay Mullens trained Crazy Maniac took out the Dapto Florist & Nursery Stake, making it back to back wins at the Dogdome. When the lids opened for the 600 metres journey it was Crazy Maniac that bounded straight to the front from box five, leading Cawbourne Arthur and Desperate Dan. In the straight the first time the field strung out, with Crazy Maniac showing her rivals a clear set of paws.

The order was still the same down the back, and despite the efforts of Caw-bourne Arthur and Desperate Dan, they weren’t making any ground on Crazy Ma-niac. Turning for home it was business as usual, with Crazy Maniac still running powerfully to the line, passing the post two lengths ahead of Cawbourne Arthur in 34,96, with Desperate Dan a further three and a quarter lengths away third place. Crazy Maniac, by El Galo from Bonnie In Flight, has raced on 11 occasions for three wins and six placings.

Trained by Andy Lord, Cawbourne Arthur (Collision x Cawbourne Kylie) after 13 career starts has notched a win and four placings, whilst Desperate Dan (Over

Flo x Miss Clementine), trained by David Broadrick, has had 76 career starts for two wins and 21 placings.

USING her box eight draw to perfec-tion, it was an all way victory for She Can Sew, who scored a dominant win in the amazing Funky Flowers Stake over 520 metres. When the lids rose, She Can Sew charged out and had crossed her inside rivals comfortably by the first turn.

The punters favourite was the check runner, Jack’s Pocket, and when he run-ner ran into traffic at the first corner it was She Can Sew who was able to pinch a very handy lead. The field strung right out going down the back, with She Can Sew striding out boldly and nothing else making any real impression from behind. Turning for home She Can Sew had it all parcelled-up and raced down the home straight to win by two and three quarter lengths from Satin Nell in 30.11, with Gambo’s Fancy third, a further two and a half lengths back. She Can Sew, a daughter of Bank Manager and Happy Baby, trained by Robert Bennett, has had 53 career starts for 14 wins with 23 placings

Satin Nell (Crash x Beechers Girl) has had 28 career starts with six wins and seven placings for trainer, Andy Lord, Charlie Gatt prepared Gambo’s Fancy (Mogambo x Petch’s Fancy) has contested 20 races for four wins and six placings.

ALL EYES were focussed on the Craig Chappelow’s Provoked, who comes from one of our best ever broodies, Frosty Fruits.

The blue chaser bounced straight to the front in a Dapto to Wenty heat and never let her supporters down, having been defeated the previous week. Exiting in the yellow vest, Provoked showed plenty of pace to find the front by the first turn, with Ritza Luke and Awe-some To Excel slotting in behind. Provoked worked clear down the back with the immediate chasers working over-time to stay in touch.

Down the side the leader was going boldly, and with no threats from behind, the youngster was all over a winner as heads were turned for home. Provoked raced away over the con-cluding stages, recording a three and a half lengths win over Ritza Luke, complet-ing trhe 520 metres trip in 30.42, with Awesome To Excel a further one and a quarter lengths away third. Provoked, sired by El Galo, to date has had just six starts for four victories.

Ritza Luke (Bombastic Shiraz x Alotta Mojo) was another runner-up for trainer, Andy Lord, with his formcard revealing nine starts for four wins and four placings, whilst Awesome To Excel (Hallucinate x Cawbourne Fraz) another from the Lord kennel, from 13 career starts has pro-duced three wins and four plac-ings. - Ron Arnold

KALDEN MAYHEM delivered a great win under pressure at Angle Park last Thursday night when the Troy Murray trained chaser took out the 731 metres Stayers Cup final. A 43.46 heat winner a week ear-lier, Kalden Mayhem was expected to go close once again and punters sent him to the boxes as the $2.00 popular elect. Decked out in the white vest, Kalden Mayhem jumped only fairly but hugged the rail early to settle down fourth through the first turn, where his main danger, Jessenia Bale was setting the pace. Improving through to third place with a lap to run, Kalden Mayhem had his supporters cheering when he railed into second place passing the catching pen to set out after the leader. Making ground on Jessenia Bale down the back straight, Kalden May-hem was looming ominously and closed to be within three lengths of the pacesetter at the top turn. Reeling-in the leader through the final bend and switching to the out-side upon straightening for home, Kalden Mayhem charged past Jessenia Bale then kicked away. The son of Big Daddy Cool and Abbadale Gold crossed the line three and a quarter lengths ahead of the brave Jessenia Bale, clocking 43.44, with Mimicking running a good race for third. The reigning SA Greyhound Of The Year and SA Distance Grey-hound of the Year, Kalden Mayhem took his record to an ultra-impressive 37 wins and 20 placings from 79 ca-reer starts.

Another pint please PINTS DELIGHT maintained his good strike rate for trainer, Brian Rayner when he racked-up back to back wins at Angle Park in the Den-ron Metals 515 metres Free For All. A $3.80 chance wearing the white

singlet, Pints Delight began fast and railed well to share the lead with As-ton Thomas through the first turn. Colliding with Aston Thomas and Johnny Will passing the catching pen, Pints Delight worked to a clear lead then kicked clear, reaching the top turn with a two lengths break. Rounding the final bend still two lengths clear of Johnny Will, Pints Delight proved too strong and held his advantage al the way to the line. The son of Superman and Cool Pints scored by nearly three lengths to the luckless Johnny Will in Best Of Night 30.00, with Head Tuner run-ning on well into third place.

Aston all action ASTON ODIN brought up his third successive win at Angle Park last week when he took out the Payneham Norwood Union Grade 4 for trainer, Troy Murray. Drawn out wide in box eight, Aston Odin ($4.20) was away safely and mustered good speed down the outside of the track to cross the field and take the early lead through the first turn. Skipping clear to lead by three lengths over Kalden Komoto down the back, Aston Odin was setting a brisk pace up front and was five lengths ahead at the top turn. Rounding the final bend still holding a big lead, Aston Odin coasted to the line under no pressure whatsoever.

Although Allen Banter finished well for second, the son of Pure Oc-tane and Miss Elly Mint won by three and three quarter lengths in a new

personal best 30.03, with Kalden Ko-moto holding on for third.

Breeders don’t panic DON’T PANIC maintained her ex-cellent form for trainer, Allen Wil-liams when she took out the Breeders Final over 531 metres at Gawler last Tuesday. Drawn box four and starting at good odds of $4.80 behind race fa-vourite, Hope’s Up ($1.90), Don’t Panic began sweetly and mustered speed to take up the front running over Octane Shiraz through the first turn. Showing her rivals a clean set of paws along the back straight, Don’t Panic produced good strength and fended-off the determined finish of Hope’s Up over the closing stages. A daughter of Premier Fantasy and Keep Token, Don’t Pasaluted the judge three quarters of a length clear of Hope’s Up in 31.05, with Izzy Mai making good ground in third place. Runner-up in the recent Group 3 Breeders Plate final at Angle Park, Don’t Panic took her record to seven wins and five placings from 17 career starts.

Stars of the week ECLECTIC produced just his second career win at Angle Park last Monday when he took time honours on the night for trainer, Petar Jovanovic. Starting $1.70 favorite from box one, Eclectic jumped straight to the front and made every post a winner.

After leading the entire 515 me-tres triup, Eclectic passed the post over six lengths clear of Poppy Pom-frey and Dyna Flow in 30.17.

SNEAKY SPIRIT notched his second SA win at Gawler last Tuesday when he ran Best Of Day in a 531 me-tres Grade 5 event for trainer, Don Turner. Nicely drawn in box one and starting the $2.30

elect, Sneaky Spirit settled down sec-ond behind King Ashy but ran home strongly and took the lead over the closing stages. Clocking 3093, Sneaky Spirit crossed the line three quarters of a length clear of King Ashy and Cruis-ing Danny. WHERE’S PANCHO brought up his 33rd career win at the same meet-ing when he ran the short course 400 metres in Best Of Day 22.66 in a Mixed 2nd/3rd/4th Grade for trainer, Richard Pearce. Starting $2.50 favourite from box three, Where’s Pancho gave nothing else a chance when he pinged the lids

and led throughout, crossing the line six and a half lengths ahead of Tessy’s Vesta and Pazza Razza.

ANDREW’S COURAGE made it back to back wins at Angle Park last Wednesday when he put in a 29.90 Best Of Day effort to land a Mixed 4th/5th Grade for trainer, Dean Decrea. Poorly drawn in box seven yet quite marketable at $4.50, Andrew’s Courage speared out of the boxes and made every post a winner when scor-ing a strong win. Andrew’s Courage won by three and a half lengths to Aramanth and Just Chases in a new personal best time.

COOLAN MISS picked up the GO-BIS Bonus and the $10,000 first prizemoney by taking out the Macro Meats Grade 5 final over 595 metres.

Drawn in box eight as equal fa-vourite at $3.20, the Jim Redenbach trained chaser was slowly away but quickly hit her straps and got to sec-ond into the straight the first time, where Dream Rattler was in charge.

Dream Rattler led down to the post the first time in 9.26, with Coolan Miss almost on levels terms on her outer then there was two lengths to Lektra Fly sitting third.

Dream Rattler refused to hand over the lead and took the second split in 23.61, but Coolan Miss had finally found the fence and was start-ing to come through beside the leader, with Mini Emily on the outer a close third.

Coolan Miss railed to the lead passing the 595 metres boxes and

came away at the end, beating Dream Rattler ($32.00) by two and a half lengths, with Take It Home ($6.10) a length and a half back in third spot.

Coolan Miss recorded 34.41 to make it two wins in four goes at the trip, as part of her 15 wins in 40 starts overall.

The black chaser, a daughter of Meticulous and Giddigan, is owned by the Coolan Syndicate.

Jim Redenbach made it a double later in the night when the David Baker owned Spiral Ballerina ran 29.65 to take out the RSN – Racing and Sport Free For All over 515 me-tres.

Coming from box one as the popular elect at $1.50, the daughter

of Collision and Spiral Rose defeated Dyna Gala ($20.20) by a half length, with Flip Bale ($4.40) the next one home, two lengths in arrears.

Arising fastest ARISING posted Best Of Night 34.12 to take out the twitter.com/sandowndogs Grade 5 over 595 me-tres.

After lining up in box three as favourite at $2.40, the son of Bom-bastic Shiraz and Pure Elle was only ordinarily away, back in fourth spot heading into the straight the first time.

Delfina Bale had the lead from the outset and passed the Judge the first time in 9.20, with Arising around the outside a length down in

second spot just in advance of Shi-raz’s Luck.

Arising took over passing through the second marker, pausing the timer at 23.30, with Delfina Bale second and a long gap to Shiraz’s Luck.

Arising ran right away from his opponents over the final stages and scored by seven and a quarter lengths over Delfina Bale ($7.60), with two lengths to dead heaters for third, Shi-raz’s Luck ($8.80) and Six Bob ($28.90).

Arising, owned and trained by Jan Cottrell, has scored in two of his four goes at the trip which helped take his career tally to seven wins in just 15 outings.

Still unbeaten FABREGAS remained unbeaten in all five starts by taking out the Rapid-vite Vitamin C Grade 5 over 515 me-tres.

Wearing the white vest at $3.00, the David Hirst trained chaser was only fairly away and then was checked a couple of times before finding himself sixth at the first mark.

Leo The Line was the early pilot and paused the clock at 5.16 to lead

by a neck over Icebox on his outer, with Cintiarna on the fence a close third.

Leo The Line was still calling the shots through the back corner where he posted 19.16 for the second split and had Fabregas on his hammer a length down after he’d barged his way through the first bend to get back into the race, while there was four lengths to Cintiarna.

Fabregas swept to the front on the final bend and did best in the run home, saluting by a length and a half over the fast finishing Cintiarna ($2.60 fav), with Leo The Line ($10.50) picking up third money, three quarters of a length further adrift.

Fabregas, a son of Bombastic Shiraz and Wicked Witch, owned by Paul Westerveld, clocked 29.90 to make it four from four over the trip.

Roy’s stroll ROY GALO ran the BON time of 29.31 to score an easy win in the TAB website Grade 5 over 515 me-tres.

Rated on top at $1.50 out of box five, the son of El Galo and Xanadu Dancer was away reasonably and then copped a couple of bumps be-fore finding his feet.

Working hard early to find the front it was Roy Galo through the first peg in 5.15 to be a neck in front of Moot Hill Leader, with a similar margin to Walking Street on the in-side third.

Roy Galo clapped the speed on and raced around to the back turn in 18.78 with a six lengths lead over Moot Hill Leader and then a further two lengths to Walking Street, with a gap to the rest.

Roy Galo was never in any dan-ger over the concluding stages and did it as he liked to the Judge, stroll-ing in by seven and a quarter lengths over Moot Hill Leader ($38.80) and Walking Street ($5.30), with three and a half lengths splitting second and third.

Roy Galo, trained by Stan Ralph for the Talbony Syndicate, has won all of his three starts to date; all on the track and at the trip.

On a roll: Geoff Lance, Don Cooke and Jimmy Redenbach with Coolan Miss, who landed the $10,000 to the winner Macro Meats (GOBIS) Grade 5 Final over 595 metres in 34.42. Midfield early after a tardy start, the in-form hard chaser proved too strong for her rivals and now has 15 wins from 40 career starts.

Proud mum, Jan Cottrell with daughters Casey and Kayla and Bendigo 500 metres record holder, Arising. The well bred chaser, a member of the top Bombastic Shiraz and Pure Elle litter, made it two very quick wins in a row at Sandown Park, with his latest effort stopping the clock in a sizzling 34.12. A winner of seven of his only 15 starts, this big leggy 35.8 kilogram chaser has a very promising future.

Handler, “Keefy” Lloyd and Adelle Bale after her strong rails victory over the 595 metres trip. Raced by Paul Wheeler and trained by the Dailly team at Anakie, the daughter of Bartrim Bale and Amelia Bale looks to have regained her conf idence and appreciated the drop in class.

Mario and Daniel Briganti and Ultra Cool, who deserved her 595 metres victory after three consecutive placings. A daughter of Big Daddy Cool and Ultra Swift, Ulta Cool was up with the leading bunch before proving too strong for her rivals, clocking 34.61.

Fabregas remains undefeated from five starts, including four over the 515 metres trip at Sandown Park. Raced by Paul Westerveld and trained by David Hirst, this big chunky 36.2 kilogram youngster hit the line in 29.91, and is a very hot youngster. Pictured with the son of Bombastic Shiraz and Wicked Witch is Peter and David Hirst, Aaron Guy, Rose Nisi and Paul Westerveld.

Gotta win first I FOUND a few comments about Miata recently that were rather interesting, to say the least.

The speculation was could she break the track record. All very nice and well meaning of course, but my initial thoughts were, “Well, she’s gotta win first.”

Breaking track records is all very good and such, but winning the race is just a touch more important. I mean, we’ve actually seen chasers break track records in losing runs. Two things happen there.

The first is you don’t get the biggest slice of the prizemoney.

The second is you don’t get the track record.

In fact, there’s nothing at all wrong with winning in slow time.

It sure beats the heck out of narrowly losing in track record time. Speaking of… SPEAKING of narrowly losing in track record time, I covered that here before, and the name Disco Dishlicka came up. He was a son of Royal Rumpus and Chrisanna Miss, who raced around a quarter of a century ago.

He ran second in the 1988 Mel-bourne Cup behind Hua, and if my mem-ory serves me correctly, he broke the old track record and still got rolled.

Now that’s being stiff. However, I think the same thing hap-

pened to him a second time up in Queen-sland, where he was runner up in a major race, possibly a Group 1 also.

He must win the 20th Century’s Big-gest Hard Luck Tale Award. I’ve been in a lot of them HE KNOWS UNO is fast approaching that point where he can claim “I’ve been in a lot of them”.

Dogs like him capture the imagina-tion of racegoers with their thrilling style of racing.

Many great racehorses, pacers and greyhounds have had the racing style of out the back early only to rattle home “at a hundred miles an hour” and score.

Heart-stopping stuff! He Knows Uno has that racing style,

and to date it’s seen him get home best and score 26 times in 61 appearances.

This dog was a top flight sprinter before switching to the longer trips.

His first taste of Group racing was in the Group 2 Ipswich Cup of 2010 when he ran third to Octane Show.

He atoned for that effort two starts later when he beat Octane Show to take out the Group 1 Brisbane Cup.

He contested the Group 1 Temlee in 2011, running fifth to High Earner, before running fourth in the Group 2 Queensland Derby to Bogie King.

He then chased Radley Bale home in the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg Grand Final.

He was runner up to What Size in the Group 2 Ranvet Gold Cup at Bulli shortly after.

He atoned in June by taking out the Flying Amy Classic at Group 3 level at Albion Park.

He then came close to winning the Big Group 1 double in Queensland when runner up to Iso Octane in the Garrards Winter Cup.

Next he received an invitation to the Group 1 TOPGUN in which he ran fifth to Allen Harper.

Into 2012 and He Knows Uno is rac-ing at the staying trips, venturing to Wen-tworth Park to contest the Group 2 Globe Memorial Plate and finished sixth to Crafty Lady.

He then came back to Victoria, where he ran fifth in the Group 2 Zoom Top behind Miata.

At the time of writing, he’s booked to contest the Group 1 Gold Cup at Albion Park.

It’s a real good effort for any dog to race at Group 1 level as a sprinter and as a stayer, and he’s more than paid his way as he closes in on $300,000 in prizemoney.

But I can’t help feeling that when he finally retires, a stud career may beckon.

Seriously, with the way stud dogs are leaving our shores, there must be vacan-cies being created on a daily basis.

I’ve just highlighted this bloke’s rac-ing career, but have a squiz at his breed-ing.

He’s by Primo Uno who, as most would know is impeccably bred, being by Black Shiraz from Prima Portrait.

His dam is Honeymoon’s Over, and she’s a daughter of Brett Lee and Divorce Remorse.

And Divorce Remorse is a daughter of Token Prince and Outrageous Alice.

A strong stud dog with Black Shiraz, Brett Lee and Token Prince in his pedi-gree has a lot to offer, in my view. Good guide I WAS thinking, seeing as Allen Harper’s name came up in the last story, is the Peter Mosman a good guide for the TOP-GUN?

Allen Harper won the 2011 Group 1 Peter Mosman at Wentworth Park over 520 metres in a flying 29.58 and later in the year he took out the Group 1 TOP-GUN at The Meadows in 29.82.

I can actually report that since the Peter Mosman became Group 1, it has 100% winning strike rate of producing TOPGUN winners.

Yes, that’s bold because prior to 2011, the Peter Mosman was Group 2.

I thought that last year’s race was of very high quality and this year’s race also looks to be a cracker, with many promis-ing young chasers engaged.

So, when it’s all over, take note of the winner and we’ll see what happens come TOPGUN time. Be definitive IN MY opinion, I think our drug rules are in places an ambiguous muddle; but I’m not laughing.

Really, it seems to me as though they lack definitive substance.

I did a story a short time back where I looked at performance enhancers.

Honestly, the difference in how a dog performs say on top quality lean racing mince, compared to a dog racing on puppy mince could be considered per-formance enhancing.

And heaven forbid if you fed your racing dog on nothing else but tinned food from the supermarket.

When I was training dogs, I gave mine at times things like calcium supple-ments, iron supplements, vitamins and minerals and other additives that suppos-edly produced optimal performance from the dog.

“Performance enhancers”… per-haps?

However, I will point out that as far as I knew at the time, all of those products were legal to use.

Same thing with hormones and prod-ucts along those lines, I preferred not to use them, but I believe many did.

However, that was in a time when, as far as I know, it was alright to do so.

A few years ago there was the EPO thing and now there’s supposedly another new ‘wonder drug’ out there.

But how much difference is there in these products and the old iron supple-ments?

I mean, is it a fine almost non-existent line between these products in what they do?

Look, I hate anyone who cheats as much as the next bloke, but is trying to give the best to your dog a crime?

Isn’t giving him the best products money can buy a preferable alternative than not giving him the best?

But if the product that is the best is deemed a performance enhancer, then make a full list of all those products and put it in the rules.

Be definitive, tell us what we can and can’t use by name, and whilst you’re at it, make a rule that covers things such as type of meat to use, because in the big scheme of things, they all play a part in determining how a greyhound will per-form, don’t they? They’re just numbers MOST trainers are very wary of what they give their dogs.

Of course, it’s the things we can’t see that may be the problem.

For instance, just what is in the air that we breathe?

What chemicals and such are we and

our dogs inhaling? Our drinking water, in some places

there’s fluoride added. Is that a concern? Well a lot of countries have scrapped

it but here we drink it and so do our dogs. At least we know what it is, but is

there anything else in there that we don’t know about?

And what about all products that must list their ingredients?

We know what some are, as they’re named, but in quite a lot of cases these additives are just numbers.

Yes, contains 56 and 123 not to men-tion 555 and 678, etc.

Hey, I have no idea what they are; I just plucked numbers out of the air.

For all I know I may have picked four chemicals when mixed make a bomb or something.

Still, I’d feel worse eating it, wouldn’t I?

At least we have the internet now to easily look these things up.

Anyhow, feeding your racing grey-hound can be a nightmare and you just have to be so careful.

My old rule used to be, “I never feed my dogs anything I wouldn’t be prepared to eat myself.”

Sadly, I just checked some of the things that I eat and they are just num-bers now. Long-standing records ANOTHER topic that’s been mentioned before, but long-standing track records keep popping up in discussions. Most feel that Brett Lee’s Angle Park record will never be broken, whilst an-other long-standing record is Lilli Pilli Lad’s Devonport time.

Eventually all records get broken, except where they close a track down or change a distance or something along those lines.

The interesting part is to see how long one can stand, and we already have a few over a decade old, with the criteria being it must be an oft used distance. The closer you get THERE’S an old saying about winning, and that is, the more races you win on the trot, the closer you are to defeat. Or something like that. And it’s essentially true.

Take Black Caviar for instance, if she keeps racing there will come a day when she will lose, but of course she may be retired before that ever happens. We’ve had undefeated greyhounds before, and whereas I have no clue just how many dogs ended their careers un-beaten, I feel that for it to be meritorious then you’d have to have had “x” amount of starts. The “x” is your choice, but I’ve run this by a few people over the years and the average figure was around 20.

That’s a pretty tall order. As far as I know, only one greyhound in Australia raced for any length of time who was unbeaten and that was Father’s Footsteps. The legend about him was he was never led nor ever beaten. Whether it’s true I can’t say, but when I came into dogs back in the late 60’s, I knew many trainers who were around when Father’s Footsteps raced and I heard the story of the dog from several different sources. And I will add that all these trainers were in the same area as the dog. Anyhow, he won most of Victorias top coursing events, including the prestigious Waterloo Cup. He left quite a few great gallopers, but perhaps it was his grandson, Red Mantle that was his best descendent. I will point out that Father’s Footsteps was a grandson of possibly the best stud dog ever in Australiaj Andrew Micawber.

Anyway, the fact the legend on Fa-ther’s Footsteps has stood for around 80 years means that it’s probably true.

Failing that, we’d better ship it off to Jamie and Adam at Mythbusters. Small turnout MAYBE SURPRISINGLY, the Traralgon Club came up short of entries for their Group 2 Cup.

Only enough entries for five heats were received, with three dogs sharing the reserve duties over all of the heats.

Yes, I know the sore point is that when entries are short, why wasn’t every dog entered given a run?

I really can’t be bothered going down that road again, as continually playing “pass the buck” is seriously just a waste of my time.

The people that should be making the rules duck for cover every time I try to mention it to them, and if they don’t avoid me like the plague, they give me answers that it is purely a Club matter and has nothing to do with them.

Soap-boxing for a moment, but why do we need people in roles associated with these types of things that seemingly can do nothing and who don’t even jump up and down like I do when these sorts of things occur?

Anyhow, the race was for the Best 64 plus reserves, and sadly only 43 entries could be found for a $40,000 to the win-ner race.

I actually think there were a few fac-tors to do with recent history that may have deterred some, but that’s just my opinion.

But end of the day, unless there’s a few scratchings, three eligible dogs may have been denied the chance to contest a Group race, and that really isn’t good enough. Ministerial dog THERE’S a chaser doing the rounds at the moment that we call the “Ministerial Dog”.

His real name is Napthine Bale, and he’s a September 2010 son of Larking About and Kazar Bale.

Trained by Graeme Bate for Paul Wheeler, he’s won four of his eight starts to date.

He’s developed an affinity with the 525 metres trip at The Meadows, where he’s won three with a third from all four tries with a smart PB of 30.06.

His other win was over 520 metres at Geelong, which just happened to be his debut run.

Is he popular, you bet he is? To date, he has started favourite in

each and every start he’s had, and in the most recent he was at his shortest quote; $1.40.

He certainly has a future, but fair dinkum, don’t expect to get rich on the punt. Your Say “Nosey Parker” asked, “Is it true Allen Harper and Snozz have both been sent OS to stand at stud?” That seems to be the case, according to the posts I’ve read on an online greyhound forum. “One Eyed Vic” wanted to know, “Is it true NSW stands for Never Stops Whinge-ing?” That’s twice in one day I’ve seen that; must be an epidemic or something...hehe. “Tired Punter” stated, “I give up, punting is a mug’s game.” Yeah, I have days where I’d struggle to pick the winner of a solo trial...hehe. “Mr. Puzzled” back with, “Is it true some-one is picking up the tab for all these micro-chipping problems?” It’s not me! This week’s Teaser LEGENDS of the breeding barn.

Anna Gram has chosen eight leg-ends (all stud dogs) for this week’s teaser; see if you can work out who they are. 1. Bolt Pack 2. Met Lee 3. Metaphoric User 4. Boxer Froth 5. Spicier Lawman 6. It Bred Icily 7. Cash Lark Biz 8. Flora Ruins ANSWERS NEXT WEEK Last week’s answers Of course it’s a track record, the same as if the dog went around the outside fence.

The distance given for the trip is in reality only a guide. I seem to recall that years ago we measured the distance by using the route of the lure.

So assuming that is say 500 metres, if you measured around the running rail it might only be 490 metres, whereas if you measure around the outside fence it might be 525 metres.

If a dog is clever enough to run less than the stated 500 metres then that’s a bonus, as long as he’s on the correct side of the fence.

BONE FATIGUE RACING injuries, especially orthopaedic injuries, are an unfortunate fact of life for a racing greyhound.

The fact that they race around turns does increase the strain on particular joints and long bones. Often these injuries are insidious in their development and after a period of concussive degeneration a bone will eventually undergo structural failure.

Good examples of this type of injury are metacarpal fractures of the right fore leg and tarsal three bone disintegration of the right hind leg.

In essence, the time between races is shorter than the time required for remodelling and repairing the stressed bone.

This chronic failure in adaption to racing is called bone fatigue.

When a bone is fatigued its repair process is incomplete and structurally unsound. It succumbs to more damage during the next race.

Most greyhounds show no lameness at this stage, however, the weakness in the structure eventually spreads, finally leading to obvious lameness.

At this stage the bone is so badly

damaged that a deep curette is required to restore some normal bone structure.

Occasionally there can be a catastrophic fracture of a previously healthy bone.

This is simply the result of excessive forces being applied to that bone usually from an abnormal direction, a sheer force.

Often these fractures result from the massive power of the athlete at speed being malignly channelled due to either tripping, leaning or in some other way becoming unbalanced on an uneven track.

Prevention of catastrophic failure of a long bone is often impossible. However, rearing and proper

management of the juvenile greyhound has an important bearing on the strength and conditioning of the total structure of the dog, including the bones.

The bones of a greyhound are not fully mature until he is 24 months-old.

But even a 24 months-old greyhound

that has not had skeletal conditioning is as vulnerable to fracture as a 12 month-old puppy. Bones need to be stressed for nature to get the signal to reinforce their structure.

A gallop of as short as 90 metres has been shown to initiate the minute damage and create the appropriate chemical signal within the bone for the body to strengthen their structure.

This process takes 10 to 14 days, assuming there are appropriate levels of Calcium, Phosphorus and Vitamin D in the diet.

To bring a dog to his ultimate bone strength may take four to six months of this patient galloping or trialling.

It is important that during this conditioning phase that the bones are placed under the stress they will endure when rounding a bend on the track. Magnetic Field Therapy increases the rate of bone healing. The optimal settings for healing fractures are 90 gauss for 20 minutes per day and at a frequency of 50 hertz.

TRACK SPECIALIST, Audacious Elle should be very hard to beat in Friday night’s Group 2 Lion Quality Products Traralgon Cup Final to be staged over 513 metres. After winning a heat in 29.67 from box six, the Mick Fearnley trained chaser will move one closer to the rail in the $40,000 to the winner race in an effort to take her record at the trip to 10 wins in 11 goes. The daughter of Bombastic Shiraz and Pure Elle, with career stats of 15 wins in 31 starts, has a PB on the track of 29.46 Normally a reliable beginner, she has great form from middle boxes, with her box five record showing a three from four result. The black Yinnar based chaser will be out to atone for her only other Group appearance when a luckless

seventh in the Group 1 Australian Cup final earlier this year. Carol Allen from the powerful Graeme Bate kennel has come up with the box inside of Audacious Elle, and that just happens to be the same alley that she won a heat from. On that occasion, which was her first start on the track, she came from behind to finish best and score in 29.71.

The daughter of Where’s Pedro and Daphne Bale has won 19 of her 81 career starts and regularly races in top company.

Recently she ran a luckless third in the Group 1 Sapphire Crown and she’ll be out to try to atone for that here.

Andrea Dailly will rug-up three runners; two of whom are members of the Collision and Gold Rush Bale lit-ter; Dyna Morris in box two and Dyna

Lowell in box seven, with her third runner being Lektra Express in box three.

Dyna Lowell had box seven in a heat and scored impressively in Best Of Night 29.54 at his first Glenview Park start.

Another who regularly races in top grade, the black galloper gets his chance to emulate some of his litter-mates and notch his first Group win.

Dyna Morris, who contested the Group 1 Melbourne Cup, qualified for this by chasing Audacious Elle home in 29.67, beaten two lengths at his first start on the track.

Lektra Express, who was runner up in last year’s Ballarat Cup, qualified by leading throughout to score in 29.76 at his first start on the track.

The three Dailly dogs are all sea-soned gallopers who will be better for their first start on the track, and you

could find a valid winning argument for each of them.

Whelan, now in the care of Jason Thompson, has box one after his sec-ond to Carol Allen, where he also wore the red vest.

Blackalls Boss led throughout from box eight in a heat to score in 29.79 and he’ll wear the green vest here for trainer, Michelle Mallia-Magri.

The Robert Neocleous trained Ruby Ha Ha makes up the eight and she’ll come from box eight following her neck second to Lektra Express in a heat.

The two reserves are Smoke Home, a finalist a year ago, and Lin-den Magpie; both of whom would be a chance if they gained a start.

In a high quality race where any of the eight could win without surprising, it may all boil down to whoever gets no bad luck in transit. - Darryl Embling

Having an affinity to the Traralgon circuit, Audacious Elle, pictured with trainer, Mick Fearnley and owner, Diane Wainwright, cut out the 513 me-tres trip in a very brisk 29.46.

Lektra Express, pictured with catcher, Jack Heasley, led from go to whoa in a Traralgon Cup heat last week and registered 29.76 at his first Glenview Park outing for ‘Team Dailly’.

FOLLOWING the finalisation of the national nomination form, the NSW GBOTA wishes to advise participants that the 2012 NSW State heats and finals for the Nationals series will be conducted at Bulli. The NSW State sprint series will be conducted over 472m, while the distance series will be over the newly developed 701m, with heats to be held on Monday August 6 and Finals Monday August 13. The NSW GBOTA undertook the decision to move this year’s State heats and finals to Bulli as the final National Championships will be conducted on August 25 at Hobart which is similar to the one turn track at Bulli. Both of the NSW State series are open to the best 32 greyhounds nominated, as determined by the GRNSW TAB Grading Policy. Where less than 32 nominations are received the NSW GBOTA and GRNSW retain the right to reduce the number of heats conducted.

Participants are advised that there is a specific event nomination form (National Acceptance form) which must be completed and submitted to GRNSW by 12noon Monday July 23, 2012. Forms can be faxed to 02 8580 5301. The National acceptance form is available on the NSW GBOTA (www.gbota.com.au) and GRNSW (www.thedogs.com.au) websites, as well as made available at all NSW GBOTA tracks. Full event conditions, including domicilatory clauses can be found on the National Acceptance Form. The Bulli Club has programmed both a non grade 701m and 472m for both July 23 and 30, dependant upon nomination flow. Those seeking trial information for Bulli can contact Paul Barnes on 02 42671467 or 0418 433 083. Further information can be obtained from NSW GBOTA on 02 8587 1202.

THE SHEPPARTON Greyhound Racing Club is pleased to advise trainers that a set of two boxes have been installed at the track for the purpose of puppy trials and short trials and are ready for use for trialling. The Club's track team of Adrian Wren and Mick Coventry have worked tirelessly to complete the project that required the relocation of the outside fence and irrigation, upgrade power, modification of boxes, preparation of slab for the boxes, widen the track with base and sand, lay matting, install a trip and position and install the boxes. Timing will be connected to the boxes in the coming weeks, however, a run-home time is available at present and trials commenced from the boxes last Saturday. Once the timing is installed then 1st section, run home and overall times will be available. The distance of the boxes is approximately 310 metres. “The Club has had the project in mind for some time and are pleased to be able to offer the short boxes to trainers for trialling for either pups or dogs returning from injury,” said SGRC GM, Troy Harley. “Trainers can utilise the boxes on both arm trial days and after race meetings. The boxes have a nice easy run into the bend that will allow dogs to balance up nicely into the turn without being a full pace and I am sure the start will get plenty of use at all of our trial sessions,” Harley added. Trials over 310 metres will be available after race meetings, as well as arm trials sessions and after race meetings, and will be conducted after the 390 metres trials are completed.

THE 2012 Shepparton Cup Carnival gets underway in just under a months time and six race meetings, eight feature events and $230,000 in stake money will ensure an exciting two weeks of racing at the popular Kialla circuit. The Group 2 Shepparton Cup has a new sponsor for 2012 with Skill Training Victoria throwing it's support behind the 450 metres event and previous Cup sponsor Neatline Homes now aligned with the new Winter Maiden Series that has been added to the carnival program. Joe Newson from Skill Training Victoria has a life long passion for greyhound racing and through his business is showing his passion and support for the industry by way of sponsoring both the Bendigo and Shepparton Cup for 2012. The 2012 Skill Training Victoria Shepparton Cup will offer $42,000 to the winner on Friday night July 20 and for the heats, to be held on Monday night July 16, the Shepparton Cup will be the first Provincial Cup series to offer city stake money for the heats resulting in heat winners will take home $5,000.

A new maiden series, the Neatline Homes Winter Maiden, sponsored by long time supporters Ken and Helma Gash, will be conducted over the 450 metres journey with heats on Wednesday July 11 and the $5,000 to the winner final on Friday night July 20. Another new race to be held during the carnival is the Grade 5 Super GOBIS event over 450 metres. Heats will be held on the first night of the carnival, Monday night July 9 with the final on a Saturday twilight program on July 14. The winner will collect $3,000 plus a Super GOBIS payment if eligible. IT IS just over a week away until the introduction of the new OzChase racing system which will greatly affect many applications and processes that partici-pants and greyhound supporters have been using over the last 7 – 8 years that GRSA has been aligned with Victoria. Due to circumstances, GRSA, Racing Tasmania and the Northern Territory who were on the linked GRVIC system have joined the OzChase system. O z -Chase currently operates as a joint ven-ture between RWWA and GRNSW with linked data for all person and registration details. The three States joining OzChase will utilise the system already in place for persons and registrations and should be a smooth transition. From a racing, grading and form fields perspective the three States have developed new systems which we have been testing with the assistance of RWWA which will hopefully provide simi-lar details to what participants are used to. To minimise the cost to the Industry the three States joining OzChase have had to make accommodations as not to delay the project which means much of the administrative process done by our staff including grading, race results, breeders bonuses and prizemoney trans-fers will be done manually and some of the website applications available such as photo finishes, video’s and highly detailed racing information will not be available in the short term. Towards the end of the year both WA and GRNSW will join the racing side of OzChase to make it a fully live data-base with all five States and those appli-cations and processes missing will be made available. So there may be some things that participants and greyhound followers normally receive that they will not be able to access in the short term, how-ever, later in the year we should be able to provide a highly detailed system which works for GRSA staff, the Greyhound racing industry and public. The main thing that participants and greyhound supporters will notice is that racing information available currently on the GRSA website will be different or no

longer available. I have listed the pro-grams below that GRVIC used to provide and what the changes will be - • Race Fields - (will now be provided through GRNSW “The Dogs” format) • Race Results - (will now be provided through GRNSW “The Dogs” format) • Race Results with Photo Finishes—(photo finishes will not be available until later in the year) • Form Fields - (will now be provided through GRNSW “The Dogs” format) • Online nominations (includes nomina-tions count) – (will still be done through a user id and password however the proc-ess will be slightly different. GRSA will need to provide a new user id and pass-word. I will be writing to registered online users this week. The nominations count will no longer be available. You will no longer be able to nominate for Victorian meetings online. Victorian trainers will need to contact GRSA to be provided with a user id and password to nominate into South Australia online) • Online kennel returns - (will not be available however will be considered for later in the year) • Watchdog (includes Video’s) – (Watchdog will not be available however Video’s will be available later in the year Other things that will change include the abolishment of Greyhound Racing Certificates to be replaced by Cards the same as Victoria and NSW currently have. New licence cards for participants which will mean a change to your licence number at the next renewal (31st March 2013 currently, however, this date is being considered to move back to 30th June 2013). The grading process will be even more manual for our grader and also with a new system it is important that the grades of greyhounds are correct so more checking is required. Due to the move away from Victoria, Coursing fields will also be an even more manual process as we have not been able to access this information from Vic-toria to assist with our fields. The dates to remember and what you need to do… The most important date is Friday 22nd June at 2.30pm because this is when the

data migration process from GRVIC to OzChase will start and will continue over the weekend with the “Go Live” date being Monday 25th June. Nominations for the Angle Park meeting on Thursday 28th June have been brought forward to 9.00am Friday 22nd June to ensure that our main night of racing is finalised before the data mi-gration. You will still be able to nominate online as per normal for this meeting. The Thursday meeting and Wednesday 27th June will be done asap on the Fri-day prior to the 2.30pm cut off time. Nominations for Gawler on Friday 29th June have been moved to 9.00am on Tuesday 26th June to close on the same day as Port Augusta Saturday 30th June and Mount Gambier on Sunday 1st July. This will give GRSA time on the Monday to ensure a smooth transition of data. Trainers will not be able to nominate for these meetings through the GRVIC online nomination process. The new OzChase details should be available and working and I will be writing to these trainers this week to provide log in de-tails. However I would recommend that trainers lodge their nominations prior to these dates the old fashioned way by manually lodging a normal multi nom form or faxing one in, just to make sure there are no problems. At time of nominating, whether online or by hard copy, trainers will be required to advise if the greyhound last raced Interstate. This is a requirement as GRSA staff will be required to upload Interstate form and should we not be advised of the Interstate performance, a grading error may occur. I would recommend that if you have any Breeding forms, Namings, Licenses or EFT Prizemoney forms to be lodged that you do it prior to this date to ensure all records are up to date prior to the data migration. Please allow for extra time after this date for these forms to be proc-essed.

National Greyhound Form, Thursday, June 21st, 2012 – Page 57NATIONAL GREYHOUND FORM NOW ON SALE WEDNESDAY IN NSW - Distributed by John Fairfax.

GRV CEO, John Stephens has ad-vised OTL that Geelong will not be racing three times a week.

He was replying to a whisper that the club will switch from their current schedule of racing on Thursday and Friday evenings to opt back for their popular Monday midday slot and re-tain Friday nights.

But he did mention that this pos-sibility had not been decided perma-nently.

He also dismissed the possibility of the Country Clubs Association re-forming, despite a rumour emanating from a recent DBD meeting in Bendigo.

He confirmed that if the clubs were right behind the move then all they had to do was get themselves organized and go ahead with the plan, as it was not a matter that would be discussed by GRV’s SMT.

However, he was of the opinion that it didn’t get much support at that meeting.

On a brighter note, he confirmed that after amicable talks with Sky Channel head honchos, Warrnambool will once again be a permanent fix-ture on a Wednesday evening.

Ballarat will remain as the num-ber one Victorian meeting, with all their meetings shown on Sky 1, whilst Warrnambool will get Sky 1 coverage for 31 of their meetings, with the remaining 21 being picked up by Sky 2. The club with no beer WAGGA’S outstanding June 10 Sun-day Cup meeting offered winning connections a $7,000 cheque.

The hard working mob were over the moon with the local response and it was standing room only for the long weekend meeting.

The locals must be thirsty up that way, as it seems that the 50 cartons of beer that was expected to quench their parched throats wasn’t enough and they had to send out for more supplies.

Unfortunately the PA system “died” for the most important race on the 10-event program, the Cup, that was taken out by Wenzke, but the Sky Channel host on the night in-formed viewers with an impromptu description that was second to none.

Seems the weekend event can only get bigger and better, and every-one concerned can take a breather until next year.

Big bucks USA breeder, John Kelly has suc-cumbed to a “Godfather” offer for his brilliant chaser, Kelsos Guardian.

The recent winner of the Ameri-can Derby at Southland, the son of Kelsos Fusileer and Kelsos Hitfalutin has been sold to an English syndicate that have parted with US $183,000.

The black sprinter won’t be going there just for stud duties, as his new owners intend to race him at Wimble-don in the rich high-profile St. Ledger series, plus hopefully get an invitation for the TV Trophy at Monmore.

New Jersey based Kelly has had great success in Australia with his stud team, including Kelsos Fusileer (Gable Dodge - Lassinagh Silk ), Kel-sos Lorenzo (Trent Lee - Kelsos Lisa-cool), and Super Lee (Brett Lee - Kiowa WW Garcis), whose straws are available at the Sandown Park Veterinary Clinic.

Kelsos Guardian is an awesome chaser, as was evidenced by his vic-tory in the American Derby.

He also fired at Mardi Gras, claiming the track champion title, winning 13 and being placed five times from 22 starts at the Florida venue.

Late night for the Poms DIFFERENT but interesting slant on the way the Poms present their night of nights, the English Derby.

Held recently at Wimbledon’s dilapidated Plough Lane venue, this year’s classic race, won by the Mark Wallis trained Blonde Snapper, was listed as the second last race on the 13-event card.

Get ’em trackside and keep ’em entertained is the Poms motto, and as long as the punters were enjoying themselves with plenty to eat and drink incentives, they were once again assured of a huge crowd.

A marathon, plus distance races, short courses and a hurdle event every 20 minutes provided a wide variety of races to entertain punters.

The williamhill.com sponsored English Derby kicked-off at 10.35pm and the historic 480 metres didn’t fail to live up to expectations.

Apart from the pot of gold of-fered for winning the Derby, the other dozen races on the program wouldn’t enthuse Aussie owners and trainers.

Three races offered a first prize of £1,500, whilst the others awarded winners £1,000 plus the obligatory trophy.

We should be mighty grateful for the state our sport is in Australia, where $5,500 is standard fare for any Grade 5 winner at our city tracks.

The pitch to entice our chasers overseas to compete in the Irish and English Derbies is just a pipe dream until the quarantine regulations can be relaxed.

And whilst on quarantine condi-tions, does anyone know why our race horses (read Black Caviar) can

be flown half-way around the world to compete at Royal Ascot and then return home shortly after their cam-paign? Slander RECENT incidents of greyhound website forum users baking trainers with ill-informed and litigious com-ments is a sure recipe for the legal profession to make a killing.

Two incidents highlight the lack of intelligence displayed by these users and it won’t be long before a defamation case is listed.

A Sydney trainer was slighted on one of the more reputable sites, but it didn’t take long for a contrite and snivelling apology to appear, hope-fully placating the innocent trainer.

That wasn’t the last of the snide swipes, as on another site, one of our own leading Victorian greyhound trainers was canned and called a “renowned cheat”.

Allegations continued with other posts suggesting this trainer was known to “drug” his runners.

These tirades are sure to see the offended trainer seek legal advice and no doubt he will want more than an apology.

A wise man once said: “You can think these things but you can’t say them”.

Once they are put out there in the public domain, without any shred of evidence, then be prepared for a stint in court.

Watch this space. Living up to expectations BLUEBLOODS, bred in the purple, impeccably bred, are words and phrases that are sometimes thrown around with gay abandon.

Well, a youngster with the racing monicker, Harry The Great is cer-tainly living up to the expectations.

Harry is the red and fawn son of Where’s Pedro and the great Queen Lauryn, so he does have a profile and descends from a decent family tree.

For those who have fading memories, Where’s Pedro won his first 11 races and finished with 16 victories from only 23 appearances on the track, whilst Queen Lauryn was a Group winner who produced six record breaking runs in a star-studded career that saw her amass $277K.

Her resumè showed that she had 29 wins on the board from one short of 50 starts.

Raced by the Done That Syndi-cate and trained by Tony Brett, this

February 2010 whelp has posted three wins to date from only six outings.

However, he does look to have inherited some of his parent’s race-track talent, as at his latest outing he managed to slice .01 off the Albion Park 331 metres track record when he scampered over the short course in 18.80.

Winning by a dozen lengths, Harry The Great joined his champion mum as a record breaker, and al-though it may be a little premature to suggest that he is destined for the same starry heights his mum reached, it does illustrate the benefits of blue-bloods clicking in the breeding barn.

Change of heart THOSE owners and trainers who are prepared to patronize the Qualifying Trials series at Bendigo and Sheppar-ton can expect a bigger winner’s cheque in the future.

Thanks to the intervention of The Meadows Chairman, Eddie Caruana, who went into bat for the rank and file, participants can expect a little windfall if they are successful in win-ing the finals.

Caruana saw there was an inbal-ance in the prizemoney set-up for these heat and finals series and con-tacted GRV, who agreed and rubber stamped his proposal.

Blast from the past OTL enjoyed the geography lesson recently when Gunnedah hosted a Sunday TAB fixture.

The home of Chief Havoc, the track is steeped in tradition, with the club’s famous memorial garden at-tracting many visitors each year.

Beamed out on Sky 2, I bet there were many viewers who were watch-ing the venue for the first time.

A grass track (not many of those left nowadays), hand starts and the old-fashioned starting boxes was a real blast from the past.

Racing was good, competitive, but I didn’t get to see how the pools held up.

No doubt there were many NSW trainers who welcomed the exposure, but if the club is granted another TAB date, regardless if it is carried on ei-ther Sky 1 or 2, see if GRNSW can unloosen the purse strings and get some modern discs to place on top of the boxes to denote which grey-hounds were scratched and which colour the reserve would wear. Otherwise, I enjoyed watching greyhound racing from Gunnedah.

Remember the “brush obstacles”? Britain’s top hurdler Oliver Twist’s was up and over ‘em at Wimbledon on Derby Night. Ah, the good old days.

On-course punters were entertained by the Wayward Sisters at the Poms “Night Of Nights”. The English Derby might be run at a run down Wimbledon track but the feed back by those that were fortunate to attend gave the girls a standing ovation. When the Scots wheel out their “Scotland The Brave” and the Poms chip in with Land Of Hope and Glory, it does stir the hairs on the back of your neck.

“Wenzke’s owners also have a two year-old called Knocka’s Rockin', who has won only one race but has a big future.”

“When I trial them there is nothing be-tween Wenzke and the youngster, and I be-lieve Knocka’s Rockin' will become a very good stayer.”

********** STEPHEN SING, whose great grandfather, Arthur Sing was a rails bookmaker at the horses for 50 years, trained his first Wen-tworth Park double when Nat’s The One and Flash Waters scored recently.

“Arthur was still fielding until three years before he died at 89,” Sing said recently.

True coursing weather Lang Lang June 17 WINTER was definitely upon us last Sunday at Lang Lang, where we witnessed the running of the GOTBA Trophy.

Considering the elements were against us for most of the day, we did have some patches of sunshine between showers, and during in some cases.

Manx Missile did it again and got the chocolates over Where’s Hannibal, with both greyhounds coursing brilliantly over the day.

Merv Patching had a win in the 1-win Stake over Dirty Prince, while the Colpoys family certainly showed their team had what it takes, going home to Bass with a double and now have two less Maidens in their kennels after Dragon Lord and Fiver took out their respective events.

Sonny’s Jet put his power burners on and proved too good for Din’s Harvey in the final.

It was great to see Graeme Jolly back on the track and going home with a winner, as Destiny Stone did a great job, while Oh So Jazzy was to jazzy for Hanadarko and went on to put a win on the board for the Busch team.

Loyal Son was too good for Shep Bound in the Derby Trial final, with the pups doing a sterling job throughout the day, being the first coursing meeting for both of them.

My Girl Scarlett ran fantastic on her home track once again, proving too good on the day for Russ McRae’s pocket rocket, Annapolis.

And last but not least we saw the Dalton team go home with a winner in the Mixed Puppy event when Al Forty Three won his three courses, in yet again a fantastic perform-ance by our puppy entrants.

Well done to all trainers, and once again thank you for your support.

I must say personally I am very happy with the 87 nominations that we received, again going above our KPI’s.

Keep the entries coming for the remainder of what is proving to be a bumper coursing season.

Next meeting is the Mogambo @ Stud Sylvester Doyle Puppy Championship and the Ray Boundy Memorial for open class grey-hounds at Longwood commencing on Sunday, July 1.

So get your puppies ready for their first big one of the season, as $3000 to the winner is nothing to be sneezed at. I look forward to seeing you all there.

CONSISTENT sprinter, Beaudine staked his claim on Monday’s Tasma-nian Derby with an impressive heat win at Launceston on Monday night. Beaudine gave his rivals a gallop-ing lesson in what looked the tougher of the two heats. The Butch Deverell trained dog began only fairly from box seven and was near last at the finishing post the first time, but when two wide runners were checked and almost fell, Beaudine darted back to the fence to avoid the trouble. He set sail after the leaders down

the back stretch and when he slipped into overdrive a couple of hundred metres out he gave the leaders a cold.

He swept to the front and went on to defeat Zavance Man by seven and a quarter lengths, with Simply

Wunder over four lengths astern. Beaudine has been a consistent performer, with this latest win his seventh from 29 starts, but he also has been placed 13 times. Monahan Bully dealt punters a knockout blow by winning a Derby heat that was the second leg of the Quaddie. Monahan Bully showed plenty of early speed to lead to the first turn, but a scrimmage allowed Bangkok Star to sneak through and steal the lead heading down the back stretch. Approaching the home turn Zorro's Legacy swept around the leaders to stake his claim, but Monahan Bully came again to grab the lead on straightening and held on to defeat Bangkok Star by a head, with Zorro's Legacy almost a length away third. The odds-on favourite, Jethro got into all sorts of trouble early to tail out last, but he ran home powerfully at the business end of the race to grab fourth, thus qualifying for the final.

Bell Haven the distance champ PROMISING young stayer, Bell Ha-ven is likely to start a warm favourite to take out next Monday's LGRC Distance Championship after scoring an emphatic heat win at The TOTE Racing Centre on Monday night. Bell Haven powered her way to a 12 lengths win over Paper Trail, with Wynburn Jet over five lengths away third. It was an awesome exhibition and one that would suggest she has a bright future at the long distance caper. She had been dominating over the

middle distance (600m) on the Launceston circuit but was even more at home over the half-mile trip. The Ted Medhurst trained bitch stopped the clock at 42.49, which was only marginally outside of Sitka’s record of 42.36 that she set in July 2010. THE REMAINING HEAT was taken out by Wynburn Whirl, who led all the way to defeat the favourite, Ming Dynasty by almost a length, with Adam's Sweetie 13 lengths astern. Wynburn Whirl showed brilliant

early speed and held sway by half a dozen lengths heading down the back stretch but Ming Dynasty gradually hauled the leader in, only to fall shy by just under a length.

Oaks heats scrapped HEATS of the Tasmanian Oaks were scrapped from Monday night’s Launceston card owing to insufficient nominations. Only seven bitches were nomi-nated for the heats, so the Oaks will be run as a Best 8 from fresh nomina-tions.

LOCAL SPRINTER, Audacious Elle made it nine wins from ten starts at Traralgon with an all the way win in heat five of the Lion Quality Products Traralgon Cup heats on Friday night, and recorded the very smart time of 29.67 sec-onds for the 513 metre journey. Audacious Elle has taken all before her at Traralgon in 2012; winning the Floodfawn Damsel Dash final in February, the Traral-gon Puppy Classic final in March and now making the 2012 Traralgon Cup Final. Audacious Elle is on target to make a clean sweep of feature events at Traralgon this year and will definitely start crowd favourite in the $40,000 to the winner Traral-gon Cup Final next Friday night. Audacious Elle has drawn box 5 in the final, which is considered by many as an awkward draw for a greyhound, but her nine out of ten win record at Traralgon is a very strong case to say she is a realistic chance to score another feature final at Traralgon. Audacious Elle (Bombastic Shi-raz x Pure Elle) is owned by Kevin Wainwright and trained at Yinnar by Mick Fearnley. Mick Fearnley had Wy Yung Tiger in the final last year - won by El Grand Senor - and was extremely pleased to have Audacious Elle rep-resent the kennel in the final this year. Mick stated he is a little disap-pointed with the box 5 draw, but conceded her record at Traralgon is

outstanding. Heat One of the Cup was won by Blackalls Boss, in what was his first start at Traralgon. Blackalls Boss handled the track impressively from box 8, with the son of Halluci-nate and Blackalls Beauty chalked up his 18th win for 40 career starts with the victory and has drawn the suitable box 6 in the final. Heat two of the Cup was an excellent win to the Graeme Bate trained, Carol Allen, who was also having her first start at Traralgon, claiming her 19th career victory. Carol Allen recorded 29.71 secs from box 4 and has the same draw in the final. Carol Allen has amassed $105,000 in prize money and is very honest chaser. The Andrea Dailly trained Lek-tra Express was a solid win in heat three of the Cup running 29.76 secs, and was also having its first start at the track and could be a likely im-prover. Heat four of the Cup was also a win for the Andrea Dailly kennel with Dyna Lowell from box 7 run-ning a very slick 29.54 secs. Dyna Lowell has again drawn box seven in the final and is a very strong con-tender to take out the final. The 2012 Lion Quality Products Traralgon Cup Final has drawn to-gether a very classy and even field with a number of chances. The Club is expecting a big crowd for the Cup Final this Friday night.

Best times of the day were re-corded by Major Enforcer (26.17) trained by M Adams over the 457m distance and Out There Pedro (18.13) trained by Victorian trainer D Collison who is a regular sup-porter of our track. Other highlights of the day was the training honors that went to D Widdows who trained a double with Swanky Jeremiah and Swanky Destiny, these two winners will cer-tainly give the Swanky kennel a strong hand in next Sundays maiden final, with the other winner of the heats being Blue Flasher trained by Graeme Gawne, who was smiling like a cat that ate the cream after the run. Congratulations Graeme and may this be the start of something big for you and Blue Flasher. Other winners on the program were Made To Command for Mat Miller, Best Of Jakes for Peter Dooner, Ranger Osti for local trainer Col Thacker and Black Queen for another longtime sup-porter of our club Dale Bunn. The last race was the New Di-rectors Stakes and it was won by the Julie French trained Sunlit Babe (18.15). Altogether a great day was had by all.
