    DENVER, COFebruary 2013,The Denver Police Department, in an effort to help facilitate a

    virtual neighborhood watch program and help foster neighbor-to-neighbor communications, haspartnered with Nextdoor(www.nextdoor.com), the private social network for neighborhoods.

    The press conference will be held onFebruary 27, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Denver PoliceDistrictOnestation located at 1311 W. 46th Avenue, Denver Colorado 80211. Nextdoor is free for theresidents and thePolice Department. Each Denver neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor

    neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood. Residents can use theirwebsite to get to know their neighbors, ask questions, and exchange local advice andrecommendations. For example, neighbors use Nextdoor to share information about neighborhoodwatch and safety issues, local events, school activities, upcoming garage sales, lost pets, and muchmore.

    Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor website. Information shared onNextdoor is only visible to verified members. The Denver Police Department will be able to postimportant information, such as crime updates to Nextdoor sites within the city. The Police Departmentwill not be able to access theresidents'websites, contact information, or content.Chief Robert White says,Our main goalis to prevent crime,and with the additionaleyesand earsofmembers in our communitywe will be safer. We encourage our community members to work

    together and look out for one another.Nextdoor was specifically designed to make neighbors feel comfortable sharing information withone another in order to build stronger communities. All members must verify that they live within theneighborhood. Information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed bythose outside the neighborhood or found on Google or other search engines. In addition, Nextdoornever shares personal information with any third parties. Unlike an emaillistor other online groups,neighbor posts are organized and archived for future reference.

    The City of Denver has been mapped into126different neighborhoods. Those interested in joiningtheir neighborhoods Nextdoor website can visitwww.nextdoor.com and enter their address. If you havequestions about your Nextdoor website you can contact [email protected].
