Our argument rests on the lack of due process with which changes to council boundaries have been carried out. I remain hopeful that our argument will win the day. That is, the government’s policy of forced mergers under the guise of the Boundary Commission process is a flawed and unjust one. I will keep you updated on developments. Thank you to those residents who have telephoned, emailed and written to me supporting our battle to remain a stand alone council. The support of you all is much appreciated by me. In a boost for the future of theatre in Ku-ring-gai, my colleagues and I voted last week to grant a three-year funding package to the Marian Street Theatre for Young People. The grant will ensure that the theatre has financial certainty until at least December 2019, so they can continue their mission of teaching drama and theatre performance to Ku-ring-gai’s young residents. You can read more details of the funding package on our website at kmc.nsw.gov.au Congratulations also to those who have booked out our next Author Talk with artist Ken Done at the Ku-ring-gai Arts Centre in early June. Proof that the arts are well and truly alive and flourishing in Ku-ring-gai - long may it continue! A quick mention for the next event in our free series of seminars for local businesspeople. The Ready Set Grow workshop is all about getting government grants through the Industry Skills Fund to help grow your business. You can even fill out an application on the spot! Bookings are essential for this free event on Wednesday 8 June at the Council Chambers in Gordon. To book call 9424 0757 - I hope to see you there. Finally, for residents with old chemicals, paint tins and other hazardous waste stored at home I recommend you drop them off to the Chemical Clean-Up at St Ives Showground on the weekend of 11 & 12 June. The collection service is free to all and on between 9am and 3.30pm on both days. For full details of items that are accepted visit kmc.nsw.gov.au Please note that a 20 kilogram weight limit applies.
