These are various print screens of the progress on my newspaper. It shows the changes i made to my newspaper for a more conventional and less magazine like effect. Overall i wanted to make it as professional and modern looking as i could but still keeping in with the traditions of a regional newspaper.

Slides seven and eight are the current first and second page of my newspaper. It is not yet finished but this is roughly the layout i have

chosen and colour scheme.

Original Front Page

This was the first original draft of my newspaper, as you can see its very plain and not very eye catching. Through editing i noticed there was a lot of text which i felt bombarded the reader with too much information. From doing my research into different papers it was then I noticed how to arrange articles on a page and how many stories should be featured.

Original Second Page

To the left is my second page at its very early stage in production. A major change that i have made is to not have the white text on the black background. At first i thought this would fit in with looking modern yet contemporary but through advice given to me by my teacher and fellow students i decided that this effected the overall readability of my newspaper so decided to follow the classic black font on white text.

By having a 'Save 20% on shopping' advertisement to a well known department store on my front page i felt this would attract readers and also encourage more and more people to get into fashion and be more creative for a fraction of the price. This is my second draft to my front page I’ve kept the masthead the same but added in a new competition plug next to it. This should hopefully entice the readers into taking this newspaper as they could gain a Paris trip for two out of it. I tried to keep everything on the page relevant to fashion as I wanted the theme to be very strong but not to in your face.

I could see that my second page needed a lot of extra work to make it different from my competitors so I decided to make sure it features the same conventions as them but make to make them more edgy and modern. The weather was important to have as it’s common trait that regional newspapers follow. I wanted to include ‘tonight's’ weather as my target market are more likely to be going out clubbing ect. And it’s a good way to know how to dress for the weather. The story I have chosen will be on the model of the week Sophie and her fight with anorexia and how she can inspire other girls in the same situation.

The main thing i have adjusted here from my previous drafts is the title of my newspaper at the top. I experimented with different shading in the back of the text and decided that a deep red really made the name stand out more and give it more of a gritty real feel. I felt also that adding in the stars and the guitar not only helped make it look better overall, but also added meaning to the title with symbols.I also found that the competition plug was quite bland so I added in the red ‘WIN’ to make it more lively and added the white background behind the text. I feel this really draws your attention than it did before.

This is where I have got to on my second page. To keep it up to date with my young target audience I will advertise specific films which appeal to them. ‘Twilight’ saga is a massive craze and to show that my paper supports this will make my paper more in touch with its audience. Also advertised is popular online fashion store Asos.com by having multiple advertisements this will gain more revenue that I need from advertising to help improve the overall quality of my product.
