Live Oak, FL-the year was 1974, and graduating high school sweethearts Suzy and John were mar-ried. With plenty of love to go around, they had children; three to be exact. They were beautiful in everyway. Their family was complete.

Suzy and John were very much in love and were happy with their lives. The children were intelli-gent, loving and adventurous. Suzy worked hard to keep them in their after school activities and ortho-dontic appointments. She helped them keep up their grades and protected them from the things thatchildren can sometimes fall into during their impressionable years.

John was employed at Occidental and worked long and hard hours, but he enjoyed his job. Hepersevered to climb the corporate ladder, knowing that in just a couple more years, the kids would bestarting college and he would need to be financially prepared.

Well their last child graduated from high school and was on her way to the University of Florida.They were very proud of their children. Their son had decided to work at PCS, like his dad, and theirother daughter had gotten married and was a stay-at-home mom.

Now, Suzy and John were empty-nesters.Wondering what to do with all their newfound free time,they decided to take up traveling. They went on many adventures: The Grand Canyon, the WhiteHouse, Las Vegas, Vermont in the fall and Lake Tahoe. Their final trip was to the Florida Keys. They setout on a terribly foggy day, but they had always loved to get up and get started early. They preferred totravel when the weather wasn’t as hot and traffic wasn’t as bad. Two hours into their trip, it started torain and they considered pulling over, but Suzy said, “I’ll just drive really slowly.” She had no more thanjust spoken the words when a car slid out of control and hit them, throwing them into an oncomingsemi truck. That’s all she remembered. They told her the car had been completely crushed and shehad been thrown from the vehicle.Three weeks had passed before she even realized that she was inthe hospital.When she regained consciousness, they broke the terrible news to her that her wonderfulhusband of 30 years was gone.What would she do now? How could she survive without him? Shekept asking, “Why?” Her whole world had been turned upside down. The pressure to live everydaywithout him made her feel lost, and the sorrow overwhelmed her.

Four years after her sweet John’s passing, she began to heal from her loss. She knew that oneday she would be reunited with him. That gave her the hope she needed to go on without him. God hasbeen good to her, encouraging her that she was not alone in this.

When she started to laugh again, her children noticed that she was always putting her hand infront of her mouth. They asked her why she was always doing that. She asked, “Doing what?” “Whenyou laugh, you keep putting you hand over your mouth.” She laughed it off like it was nothing, but deepin her heart she was ashamed of her teeth. In her mourning, she had let herself go. She had put onweight and not taken care of herself like before. She had lost the beautiful smile she once had.

Her daughter told her about Dr. Charlotte Gerry, a local dentist in town that had fixed her teeth.She said she liked the dentist a lot because she was gentle, friendly, and a very warm person.“Momma, she has an ad in the newspaper for a 10 Point Healthy Teeth & Perfect Small Examinationfor $39.00.
