Adieu: Michael Crichton and B. R. ChopraMichael Crichton,whose works of
futuristic fictionmade him one of theworld's most
successful novelists,died in Los Angelesat age 66, afterprivately battling
cancer. The million-selling author madescientific researchterrifying and
irresistible in suchthrillers as "Jurassic Park," "Timeline" and "The Andromeda Strain." In the 1990she had America's number one movie (Jurassic Park), its number one bestseller(Disclosure) and its top TV series (ER). Mr. Crichton was born in Chicago in 1942;
he was the eldest of four children, the son of a journalist. Crichton's first
bestseller, The Andromeda Strain, was published in 1969 while he was a medicalstudent at Harvard. Mr. Crichton would fondly be missed by millions of his fans.
The legendary film-maker whose work struck a balance between commercialismand social relevance Baldev Raj Chopra died in Mumbai on 5 November 2008.Mr. Chopra was born in Ludhiana in pre-partition India to a middle-class Hindufamily. He had six brothers and sisters and his father was a government officer.After studying for a Master's Degree in English Literature at Lahore University, he
planned for a career in the Indiancivil service. However he failed theentry exams, and instead he turned
to journalism. Mr. Chopra in hiscareer spanning to over fivedecades, achieved what most otherfilm-makers only dream of. He was
a giant during the golden age ofHindi cinema. He's the man whogave us Naya Daur in the 1950s
that dealt with the conflict betweenman and machine as well as thekitschy and Mahabharat in the1980s that brought the epic alive on the small screen.

This is a technology development project,"DRDO sources told PTI in NewDelhi. The sophisticated tactical
missile is capable of carryingconventional warheads with apayload of about one tonne.
Though there was speculation that themissile was a land version of the under
development K-15 submarine launched ballisticmissile, DRDO sources said the surface-to-surface
missile had nothing to do with K-15 'Sagarika' project.
