Whered it go?
Er, whats up, Doc? Whats up,
you should pardon the expres-
sion, is Ken Coxs shuttlecock.
Ken was playing indoor Badmin-
ton to win extra raffle tickets
when he took his eye off the er,
shuttlecock, and lost it. Francie
Summers and Cleo Mitchell look
on in horror. The Badminton
game, for those who were not
there and thats another story
was one of Francies fabulous
tricks and treats that make arriv-
ing at our Rotary lunch such a
delight every meeting. From the
games people play to the center-
pieces she puts on each lunch
table, Francie dips into her own
pocket to pay. She deserves a
round of applause every week.
What a Rotarian. We should
make her vice president or
something.
Look whos talking: Raymond Foster and the Web
Raymond Foster

businesses?

RI Convention 2010 report
The story from MontrealWhat do Dolly Parton andQueen Noor of Jordan have incommon, leaving aside the
obvious?
Both the buxom country singer
and the widow ofKing Husseinwere among the stars of the
show at the just-ended 2010
Rotary International conven-tion in Montreal.DG Tom Novotny and wifeRobin joined the more than18,000 who thronged to the
Canadian metropolis for the
convention.
Tom, soon to be PDG Tom
Novotny, will be making a wel-come return to more frequent
Las Vegas West meetingssoon.
We can depend upon a full
verbal report in Toms usual
folksy and friendly style. But in
the interim, youll have to
make do with this prcis,
culled from RI sources.
Rotarians attending the con-
vention were privy to speakers
including Parton and Queen
Noor; best-selling author GregMortenson, cofounder of theCentral Asia Institute, which
builds schools in Afghanistan
and Pakistan; and BobMazzuca, chief executive of
the Boy Scouts of America.Parton thanked Rotary for
partnering with her to pro-
mote childrens literacy.
Queen Noor praised Rotarians
for their work in promoting
world peace and building
global coalitions
Mazzuca spoke of the long
relationship between the Boy
Scouts and Rotary and noted
many similarities between TheFour-Way Test and the ScoutLaw.Next years RI convention is in
the United States once again,
this time in the hard-hit city of
New Orleans. Its scheduled May 21-25, amonth earlier than this years
event, but still giving us
enough time to drum up a big
attendance from our club,
perhaps.
Any one for New Orleans? Our
saints can go marching in by
checking out the convention
website. Go to www.rotary.organd follow the links.
Laissez les bons temps roler,
nest-ce pas?.
RI President John Kenny pre-
sents Queen Noor of Jordan
with the RI Award of Honor.
