    Oversized chain restrains suction hose

    In model and mold

    making, high de-

    mands are placed

    on workpiece ma-

    chining, which can

    often only be fulfilled

    with special ma-

    chine concepts. In

    these cases, the ver-

    satile energy supply

    systems from igus

    show their benefits.

    Even a large volume

    suction hose can be

    safely routed.

    COVER STORY

...The company Trima (Triebeser Maschinenbau GmbH in Zeu-lenroda-Triebes, Thuringia) has firmly established itself as amanufacturer of CNC machining centers for woodworking, amongother things. A Trima customer from the foundry pattern construc-

tion sector ordered athree-meter high, cus-tom-made 5-axis ma-chine. It runs in 24-houroperation, and the ma-chine works at night wi-thout an operator. Sincethe machine is used forwood working, the ex-traction system playsan extremely importantrole: the wood dust is

a fire risk and must beremoved. A completeenclosure would be the

safest, but also the most expensive solution. Therefore, Trima optedfor a suction hose with a length of over 6 m and a diameter of 300mm. In order to do this safely, neatly and compactly, it was housedin a special oversized version of the E4/light energy supply system

From stock: Low-priced chainflex data cables

    with 30% smaller radii

To increase efficiency in wood processing, highly dynamic machining and handling systems are required. igus supports designengineers and users with its new chainflex data cables for energy supply systems at once in two respects. Smaller bendingradii allows space-saving machine layouts and high speeds. In addition, the cables offer a high service life despite this extremebending stress. Thereby not only more compact but also more dynamic solutions are possible without compromising. Extensive

series of tests in the igus test laboratory certify chainflex CF11 a permissible bending radius of 6.8 x d (-32%) and the flameretardant, UL-approved PVC option CF211, of 7.5 x d (-25%). www.igus.eu/wd/datacable

    Protection from chips

    and dust

Wood chips, dust anddirt can affect the service life ofcables and hoses significantly. Theenergy supply systems must thereforebe absolutely tight, especially in the im-mediate chip area. The plastic energytube RX from igus repels all chips by almost 100percent by virtue of the curved outer contour. Main-tenance and machine downtimes are reduced consi-derably or do not arise at all. The special design

without undercuts, edges, openings and interferingcontours and with internal fasteners and stop dogs, ensures this. The RX tube systems are still very easyto open, so that the cables remain accessible at alltimes. The IP40 tested (TV Saarland) RX tube isavailable in four sizes (42, 52, 62 and 72 mm innerheight) with cable-friendly, abrasion-optimized internalseparation and an RBR version for applications withtwo-side bending radius. www.igus.eu/wd/rx

    Circular motions in very

    narrow spaces

Modern wood processingor handling machines are

increasingly becoming morecompact. In energy supply systems,

the shrinking installation spacesdemand a compact and very ea-sy-to-fill micro-solution. The new

TB30 twisterband from igus allowsrotary motions up to 3000 degreesor more at rotary speeds of upto 720/s, and the energy chainsystem is thereby safe to use inany installation position (horizontal,

vertical or upside down). Withoutopening and closing of the chain

links, the cables can be ea-sily pushed into the chainfrom the outside by hand. The modular, highly flexible, completepackage is available from stock with a 12mm inner height. Additi-onal sizes are planned. The twisterband is the specialist for ap-plications with rotary movements in a confined space in handling, lifting and mounting devices of any kind and in trial and test rigs.

    PICK&PLACE

    pikchain, the intelligent con-

    veyor chain for non-stop pick

    & place

A trip without cargo is lost time and thereby lost money. Whatis true for transportation, is also true for production: for examp-le, in the handling and processing of wood and wood com-ponents. Conventional conveyor solutions often operate withunnecessary empty runs. With the new intelligent conveyorchain pikchain, you can stack, glue, clamp, turn, drill and test, besides many other possible applications. Each conveyor chainlink accommodates about 5 kg load and can be controlled in-dividually. The new system moves easily and vibration-free at acontinuous speed of 2 to 3 m/s.

With the new lubrication-free drylin E series, igus offers a smart alternative to manual adjust-ment in handling and automation applications. They consist of the igus step motor (NEMA 17and NEMA 23 sizes) in different types of connections and the linearaxis. The new extremely lightweight drylin SAW is usedas standard for drylin E. Flanges, couplings and space-rs are available for individual adjustment of the linearunit on the motors of other manufacturers. You canalso order the linear axes of the series SHT, SLW andZLW along with the step motor. The systems are deliveredready for installation in 3-4 days. . www.igus.eu/wd/drylinE

To reliably execute movements in the long run, classicalsolutions with lubricants are frequently used even in wood-working machinery. However, these face an insurmountab-le challenge particularly here. Wood chips and wood dustthat adhere to lubricants reduce the lubricating effect, thuscausing damages, repair costs and downtimes. This applies

to wood lathes which can, for example, be used to manu-facture banister rails. To make the machine setup as robustas possible lubricant-free iglidur Q plain bearings are used.

Thereby users save the cost of maintenance, lubricants, andnot least through re-duced downtimes.

The plain bearingsolution has anotheradvantage: the re-quired drive powerof the motor remains

    the same.

Lubrication- and maintenance-free positioning, movement andmuch more in wood applications

thanks to the low-priced drylin linear

guide systems from igus. Light-weight and compact drylin Wprofile guides offer the perfect

solution for virtually any applica-tion: 14 profiles and over 50 carriage options make drylinW applicable in various ways. drylin T can replace conven-tional ball bearing guides, as the dimensions match. drylin

The greatest possible positioning accura-cy can be critical for the quality of end

products by the use of leadscrewdrives, for example, in size adjust-ment or lifting applications in thewood-working industry. With theintegrated anti-backlash functionof drylin TR, backlash or rever-sal error is no longer an issue.

With a slight radial pretension, thetrapezoidal leadscrew drive is pressed

into the pitch of the screw thread. The backlash of the nut isthus reduced to the maximum, and both directions of mo-vement are free of clearance. Like all igus leadscrew drives,

the nuts are made of iglidur J. Therefore they have particu-larly low wear and low friction. Lifetime lubrication-free dry-lin TR anti-backlash nuts also dampen vibrations and noise. www.igus.eu/wd/drylinTR

IIn the new igus industry flyer for the wood workingand processing industry, you will find the suitable so-

lution for many of your appli-cations. Chip-resistant igusplastic solutions reduce logi-stics, assembly and proces-sing times and make mainte-nance virtually or absolutelysuperfluous.

Where existing iglidurplain bearing solutionsmust fit in the extreme

load range, the iglidurQ2 goes one up. Withhigh wear resistance andshape stability, the newmaterial easily mastersheavy-duty pivoting ap-plications. Even whendirt and harsh conditions

are added, you can rely on iglidurQ2. The new bearing material alsooffers the igus standard of free-

dom from lubrication and mainte-nance and a good value for money.. www.igus.eu/wd/iglidurQ2
