Kick Start to School Programme: You should be well aware of Tairua Schools Kick Start Pro-gramme and the effective results it delivers for our new en-trant students. Every Friday those nearing their 5th birthday (10 weeks) come along to school to engage and develop essential skills to ensure they make a seamless transition into Tairua school. Mrs Langsford-Bryant will be working closely with Barb and Anita Van Doorn (Parent Rep) from Tairua Kindy, along with Helen Hunt from Whenuakite Country Kids to ensure children and parents are well informed and knowl-edgeable on school routines and expectations prior to en-rolling. There will be a parent evening early term 1, date and time will be confirmed this week.

Walking and Biking to School: A friendly reminder to all children and parents biking to school that helmets are required. We will be working closely with Constable Matt Goodman and Richard Jellyman to ensure all our students and families are kept safe on our roads. This is also a good time of year to check your bikes, brakes and tyres for wear and tear. If you and your child walk to school we do en-courage you to walk along the water front and not the main road. This is a busy stretch of road and we know for a fact that motorists, on average are well above the speed limit.

The speed trailer will be out in front of the school next week encouraging motorists to watch their speed and remind them of their 50k speed limit. When I receive the statistics regarding the weeks data, I will let you know.

I would like to wish the students, staff and school community all the best for 2013 and what promises to be another excit-ing year for the Tairua School Community.

Regards Brendan Finn
