Dear Families and friends of Stanford Merthyr
Infants
THOUGHT OF THE WEEK
“The daily grind of hard work gets a person
polished.” Unknown.
ABORIGINAL PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT
Last Wednesday all schools in the Kurri area and
the Cessnock area came together to sign a historic
partnership agreement with the Department of
Education for our Aboriginal students. A ceremony
was held at the Cessnock City Council and all
Principals from all 22 schools were there to sign
this agreement. The 6 schools in the Kurri
Community signed our agreement. They are Kurri
High School, Pelaw Main Public, Kurri Public,
Weston Public, Stanford Merthyr Infants and
Mulbring Public. I have included the agreement on
the next page.
FINAL YEAR 2 TRANSITION PROGRAM
Our final transition program for Year 3 occurred
today at Pelaw Main School. I know our students
are very prepared now for next year. I would like
to thank the teachers at Pelaw Main for organising
such a successful program.
WHOLE SCHOOL SWIMMING PROGRAM
Swimming begins next Monday. Please ensure you
have paid the $39 by this Friday please. Please
have the children have their swimmers and towel in
a separate bag to make it easier when it comes to
get them changed. Please be at the Kurri Aquatic Centre
by 3pm each day to collect your child as their will not be
a bus returning back to school.
OPENING OF HUNTER EXPRESS WAY CANCELLED
I have just had a call from Kurri Public School informing
me that the Roads and Maritime Services have just
cancelled the official opening of the Hunter
Expressway, that was meant to be happening this
Saturday, 23rd November. This is due to the unsettled
weather conditions. Thank you to the parents of the
girls choir, who were prepared to let their daughters
participate in singing the National Anthem at the
opening ceremony. The official opening will now not
occur till some time next year.

LIBRARY THIS WEEK
We would appreciate if all library books could now be
returned to the library this week, as Mrs Berry is
beginning to do the stocktake. This is a very big job
and it is much easier if she does not have to be
chasing students to return library books. There will
not be any more borrowing from the library until
next year. Thank you.
RECOUNT ASSESSMENTS MONDAY 25TH
The whole school will be writing independent
recounts about their weekend next Monday. If you
could assist please by getting your child to talk to
you about their weekend before they come to school,
that will remind them what they did and who they
were with.
FINAL P&C MEETING NEXT MONDAY
25TH NOVEMBER
I would like to invite all interested parents and
community members to the final P&C meeting for
2013 at 6pm on the next Monday 25th November.
