We can’t wait to have cuddles! 2nd Big Announcement It is with great sadness we have to announce Miss O’Donoghue is leaving us at the end of the year. She and her partner Jarod have been given a wonderful opportunity to work and live in their home town of Albury N.S.W. We wish them well as they embark on a new chapter in their lives and look forward to visiting famer Jac! 3 rd Big Announcement Our amazing P.E. teacher Mrs Mitchell has decided to take time off over the coming year in order to spend more quality time at home with her young family. Kerryn has been amazing in implementing such a worthwhile P.E. program at Parktone that we know will continue into the future. Camp Last week Miss O’Donoghue, Miss Callanan, Ms Ziogos, Mr McGettigan, Mr White, Mrs Edwards, Miss Wapling, Miss Berriman, Miss Macklin, Mr Armitage and I had the pleasure of taking the Year 3 – 6 children to Coonawarra Farm Resort in Gippsland. The sun shone down on us during our stay and the children were superbly behaved. The staff at Coonawarra, were very complimentary towards our school and it was wonderful to hear such positive feedback from both children and parents on our return. Whilst on camp the children put the 7 Habits to good use by enjoying a range of activities. They Synergised to assist their peers when climbing the rock wall or being hoisted up on the giant swing and completing the high ropes course. They had to Begin with the End in Mind to create a liveable wooden hut or build a raft that would carry everyone across the dam without sinking (this was amusing to watch)! Canoeing groups would try to splash the children zooming overhead on the flying fox and finally the Year 5/6 horse riders ambled their way through a glorious bush track. Everyone Sharpened the Saw by devouring the delicious healthy food on offer at the end of an exhausting day. We can’t wait to do it all again at Phillip Island Adventure Resort next year Mr Danson’s Return Mr Danson returns from his long service leave this coming Monday. We look forward to hearing about his adventures abroad. Movie Night The first of our Movie nights were held last night. Thank you to everyone who turned up to enjoy this important event on our school calendar. Tickets are still available for tonight and tomorrow, just visit www.trybooking.com to make your purchase. Prep Transition The first of our 2014 Prep transitions was held on Monday. During this first session our “almost preppies” looked at the numbers from 1 to 10. They completed a fun activity which saw them focus on the shape of the numbers 1, 2 and 3. INVITATION TO ATTEND

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

All Parktone parents and families are kindly invited to attend the annual Christmas Celebration to be held this year at St Aidan’s Church on Monday

2nd

December, 2013 at 2.00pm.

As in past years, we invite children to kindly bring along gifts (either pre-loved or new) to place under the Christmas tree. These gifts will be delivered to a suitable organisation for distribution to underprivileged children. The giving is voluntary. If you agree, please wrap the gifts securely as they will be handled a fair amount and please label them clearly with age and gender (eg. Boy or girl and age).

It is a pleasure and privilege to teach your children. Thank you for entrusting this task to us. Our prayer is that they enjoy and benefit from R.E.

We wish Mr George Danson and all the staff and families of Parktone, a blessed and happy Christmas and New Year.

God bless Mrs Ruki Joseph Mrs Alison McFadden Mrs June Bryant

CHILDREN WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES – Are You Challenged by Your Child’s Diabetes?

Research into parenting children with type 1 diabetes The University of Queensland is conducting research into parenting children with type 1 diabetes. Parenting a child with diabetes presents many challenges (everything from the regular blood glucose monitoring and insulin intake, to more general parenting tasks). The aim of this study is to understand the factors that make the management of childhood diabetes particularly difficult, and to use this information to develop strategies that might assist par-ents in managing their child’s diabetes.

If you are a parent of a 2 to 10-year-old child with type 1 diabetes, we would love to hear from you!

By sharing your experiences (confidentially), you will be making a valuable contribution to the development of much-needed childhood diabetes management strate-gies for parents.

To complete the online survey, please log on to: https://exp.psy.uq.edu.au/type1diabetes

For further information about the project or to request a survey to be posted to you, please email Aditi Lohan ([email protected]) or call (07 3365 7689) at the Parenting and Family Support Centre in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland, St Lucia QLD 4072 (Fax: 07 3365 6724).

Thank you for your time and participation.

The past few weeks we have been having fun with wool, the children have been making wooly dolls, sheep, bracelet and anklets. It has been really amazing watching the children come up with different ways to create with the wool. We have also been concentrating on creating a book about Australia and what kind of things we can do here like football, cricket and different animals we have, once it is finished we will be sending to Ethiopia for them to use as a learning tool. We are always on the lookout for information that parents and families might want to contribute towards the book. We are also trying to gather some wool for the children to create some wonderful masterpieces, so if you have any wool laying around that you no longer need please feel free to drop it by the OSHC room. Our room is always open for families to come and see what we do, we help them with their homework and reading in a safe environment, and give them the opportunity to build on their existing skills.
