Principals Report Dear parents and carers, Firstly I would like to thank all members of the Mahogany Rise PS community who have been so supportive over the past weeks in relation to the Coronavirus situation we find ourselves in. I have seen so many heart-warming examples of students, teachers and parents supporting each other during this period of uncertainty. Thank you for your continued support. As we know, the situation is changing daily. The most current information is outlined below. CORONAVIRUS UPDATE As you should have received via COMPASS, I am receiving regular DET updates in relation to the CV situation. The key points to consider at this stage are; Classes will run as normal and until further notice. In the event of a school closure in the coming weeks, staff will be working on Home Learning Packages for each student, ready for when and if this occurs. As a precautionary measure, and in line with Department advice, scheduled assemblies and parent/teacher interviews have been cancelled until further notice. I have also spoken with our cleaner over the weekend and have arranged for extra surface sanitisation until further notice. If your child is unwell please keep them home and inform the office. If returning from overseas travel you need to self-isolate for 14 days and inform the office. If you have come into contact with a person who tested positive to Coronavirus please notify the office ASAP. If you or a family member have tested positive to Coronavirus please inform the office immediately. I will continue to advise families via COMPASS and the Facebook page for further information. If you are not yet signed up to COMPASS, now is the time to do so. Being well-informed during times like these, helps decrease angst and feelings of uncertainty in ourselves, but most importantly, our children. Please come and see Jack Mazurek for your login details and we can support you in gaining access to this critical communication tool. SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS In more exciting news, the School Council voting closed last week and I d like to welcome 3 new parent representatives to School Council; Lucinda Liddiard, Allison Gadsden and Alana Jackway. These parents join Danica Wolfcamp (President), Kelly Hill (Vice President) and Guy Wassef. The elected DET member is Samantha Ward (year 5/6 teacher) and Jack Mazurek (AP) has been co-opted to replace Michael Smethurst. I look forward to working with you all on the many exciting projects that are happening at MRPS this year and beyond! BUILD UPDATE The builders, while spending a little bit more time in the ground than expected, are up to the slab phase! When you return from school holidays you may notice a few extra projects that have happened too, I dont want to spoil the surprise, so keep an eye out over the holidays! BERRY STREET CURRICULUM DAY Day four of the Berry Street training has been booked for Friday 22 nd May in term 2. This will be a student-free day where staff will be working in library to further their understanding of the Berry St Education Model. PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS We havent forgotten about these! Given the current situation and the advice around social distancingour Parent Teacher interviews will occur in term 2. Keep an eye out for COMPASS posts to book in a time. More information on this early in term 2. Andrew Schneider Principal, Mahogany Rise PS NEWSLETTER March 2020 THE M A H O G A N Y T I M E S
