FHS Scholarships McCarthy Elementary School Scholarship ($500) -- Due March 13, 2020 Awarded to a senior in good academic standing, with financial need, who attended McCarthy Elementary. The application can be found on Naviance ( www.naviance.com ) or in the College & Career Center.
→ **Uses FHS scholarship application** PTBO Scholarship ($1,000 for 2 FHS seniors) -- Due March 16, 2020 The FHS PTBO grants scholarships to graduating students to further their education. These scholarships will be awarded based upon the totality of the student's accomplishments and experiences at FHS along with the quality and content of the essay. The scholarships will be awarded to seniors who are continuing their education post-graduation, and this is not limited to college. The scholarships are open to all seniors meeting this criteria, except for those whose parents are on the PTBO scholarship award committee. The Gillian Tara Shor Scholarship Committee is seeking a well-rounded student who exemplifies many of Gill's qualities, particularly her passion for activities like soccer, her enthusiasm and spirit, her kindness, her concern for others and the special knack she had for bringing people together. Scott H. Pomerleau Memorial Scholarship ($500) -- Due April 10, 2020 We are very honored to be able to offer a scholarship to a Framingham High School Girls team swimmer or diver. We are excited to give back to a program, which has had such a positive impact on Halia and Framingham High School. The Swimming and Diving team provided life long lessons, which are invaluable. Coach Foley created a team culture, which built camaraderie, a solid work ethic, commitment, and respect. Halia was fortunate enough to have the support to strive for excellence because of this program. Halia and her Uncle Scott Pomerleau who the scholarship is named for also had the support of the school community in Waltham to achieve success in his diving career. As you can see Halias diving career has mirrored her Uncle. Halia will now carry on the tradition of diving at the University of Alabama. Swimming and Diving afforded both Halia and Scott great opportunities. We hope this scholarship will give opportunities to others as well. The Framingham United Soccer Club and the Framingham United Boosters Club annually offers scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have been players or referee members of FUSC and who will be attending an accredited two or four year college after graduation. Esta Rita Smith Scholarship ($1,250) -- Due April 27, 2020 The Esta Rita Smith Memorial scholarship is a one-time award of $1,250 funded by the Potter Road Elementary School PTO. To be eligible you must be a former student of Potter Road School Elementary School, a graduating senior of Framingham High School or Keefe Tech and a current Framingham resident that is pursuing higher ed. Kevin Flynn Doherty Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) -- Due March 23, 2020 This scholarship is given in memory of Kevin Flynn Doherty who died in a tragic accident while he was a student at Framingham North High School. Kevin’s mother, Barbara Defino, a teacher at Hemenway Elementary School for over 30 years bequeathed the money for this scholarship when she passed away in 2014. Kevin was a wonderful, caring, young man, who had many friends. He loved the outdoors, including boating, waterskiing, and soccer. Non-FHS Scholarships American Association of Blacks in Energy Scholarship ($3,000) — Due March 15, 2020 Through the work of various members of the AABE National Scholarship Committee, Chapter Presidents, Regional Directors, local Scholarship Committees and many AABE volunteers nationwide, the AABE Scholarship Program is advertised and applications are solicited from eligible candidates nation-wide. AABE local chapters review the applications received and select local scholarship winners, from which the top-ranked candidates are forwarded to the National Scholarship Committee for consideration of regional and national awards. Don Mozley was a renowned broadcast journalist who spent 62 years working for CBS Radio and KCBS/74 in San Francisco. Hired by CBS in 1942, Don covered such historic events as WWII, the atomic bomb tests at Bikini the presidential campaigns of Nixon and Eisenhower, and the Senate race of Robert Taft. He received the Excellence in Journalism Award from the Society of Professional Journalists' Northern California Chapter in recognition of his distinguished broadcasting career. In addition to news, Don's passion was cars and he spent much of his career covering automotive history in his features, "California Driver" and "Don Mozley's Auto Test". It is in the spirit of Don's love for cars that he established the Donald and Barbara Mozley Scholarship to support students pursuing degrees in engineering. Mark Bavis Leadership Foundation Scholarship (Up to $5,000) — Due March 15, 2020 The family and friends of Mark Bavis have established a foundation in Mark’s name to preserve his memory and to perpetuate the principles by which he lived every day and through which he touched the lives of many. Mark’s work ethic helped him accomplish so much in such a short time. He was one of those quiet leaders who led by service and example. We will accomplish this by providing selected recipients with annual grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to be used as specifically requested for school tuition, summer programs and other appropriate extracurricular activities. Janice M. Scott ($2,500) — Due March 31, 2020 The establishment of the Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund occurred in October 2001. This scholarship fund is named in honor of Janice Marie Scott. Why was this scholarship fund established? To recognize her involvement with various youth programs and community service activities within the Greater Metropolitan Area of Washington, DC. Janice was one of 125 individuals that perished in the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 when terrorists hijacked and crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the building of the Pentagon. Richard J. Callahan Scholarship (TBD) -- Due March 31, 2020 accepting the scholarship. Applicant must either be an incoming college student or a current college student attending Framingham State University. Applicant is NOT ELIGIBLE to apply if they are an employee of MetroWest Community FCU, or a member of the Board of Directors for MetroWest Community FCU, an immediate family member of someone who is a MetroWest Community FCU employee or serves on the Board of Directors. Christine B. Dexter Scholarship ($2,000) — TBD March 2020 CBF is dedicated to providing support for the cancer community, who we believe is anyone who has been touched by cancer. This year, they would like to award one undergraduate student affected by cancer with a $2,000 scholarship for the upcoming academic year. The scholarship is for any undergraduate student who has been affected by cancer in any way (be it themselves, a friend, a family member, a teacher, etc.) and they must also be attending their undergraduate in one of the following states: Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, Connecticut, or New York. Over the decades, Mr. McGarry served with the Woburn Auxiliary Fire Department, founded the Independent Fire Association of Woburn and was active with the Massachusetts Antique Fire Apparatus Association. Herbert Fales Educational Trust Scholarship (TBD) — Due May 1, 2020 The Trustee will select recipients on the basis of academic record, financial need, character and general appearance of the scholarship application. The Trustee will give strong consideration to the essay questions (Part III) and to the accuracy of answers to questions of fact (Part I and II). Recipients must be from Framingham or some community within ten miles thereof. Consideration will be given to persons that can qualify for admission to a Trade School, particularly those teaching subjects connected with building construction.
