Member Profile Diane Duggan

Diane works at Bell Bay Aluminium and has been in Rotary for three years.

Where were you were born? Nottingham in England

Tell us about your family? Michael and I have two boys; Lee lives in Launceston and Tony lives in Cairns with our daughter in law Meg and our three grandchildren Kahlan (7), Oliver (5) and Joshua (2) .

What did you want to be when you were growing up? I wanted to be a nurse but a trip to the LGH for work experience put me off, I was afraid of seeing peoples insides—now I love watching documentaries showing real life operations.

Who is your role model? Bette Midler, Michelle Obama, Ricky Gervais —strong successful peo-ple with a kind heart and the courage to say what they think.

Three things on your bucket list? To be at my grandchildren’s graduations and weddings; to be able to travel for at least 3 months of the year; to die in my own bed.

Your favourite travel destination? New York or London—I love the buzz of the big city.

Favourite meal? Lobster thermidor.

What sort of music do you like to listen to? The score from Les Miserable, Adele, Coldplay.

The greatest life lesson you have learned? That the things we worry about today will not be a worry to us in 6 or 12 months time. It all works out in the end.

Craziest thing you have ever done? I went to a Catholic school progressive dinner dressed as a nun.

The first person you had a crush on? David Cassidy, Bobby Sherman and David Bowie—probably all about the same time.

You have a million dollars, what do you do first? Book a first class round the world holiday for the family.

Tell me something about you that nobody else knows. I hate walking into a room with people I don’t know—I find it really hard to make small talk with strangers.

When you are not working or volunteering with Rotary what do you like to do? Walk, internet shopping, read, go out for a meal and spend time with friends.

Member Profile Rod Green

Rod works at BHP Billiton’s South 32 plant at Bell Bay.

Where were you were born? Launceston

Tell us about your family? Rod is married to Helen, they have a son Brad, daughter-in-law Anna and two grandsons Oliver and Wilba. What did you want to be when you were growing up? A policeman

Favourite Movie? The Shawshank Redemption

Your favourite travel destination? Canada

Favourite meal? Roast Lamb, lamb cutlets.

What sort of music do you like to listen to? Something with a beat, and that you can hear and understand the person singing.

The greatest life lesson you have learned? Honesty

You have a million dollars, what do you do first? Sit back on my balcony and enjoy a drink

Tell me something about you that nobody else knows. I love duck eggs

Which AFL team do you support? North Mel-bourne, Melbourne, then Carlton and now back to North Melbourne

When you are not working or volunteering with Rotary what do you like to do? Just sit back and re-lax, thinking about all the things I should be doing

What is your favourite Rotary memory? I enjoy the hands on things like working in the food van.

What is your favourite Rotary cause (who would you like us to raise funds to help)? I have always believed too much money goes to causes outside of our community, I would like to see more money raised and spent on projects within George Town

If you could change one thing about Rotary what would it be? I am quite happy with the way things are, and if the last answer can happen all the better.

NOTICE BOARD

YOU HAVE TO LOVE A GOOD NURSE… A policeman was rushed to the hospital with an

inflamed appendix. The doctors operated and advised

him that all was well, however, the patrolman kept

feeling something pulling at the hairs in his

crotch. Worried that it might be a second surgery

and the doctors hadn't told him about it, he

finally got enough energy to pull his hospital gown

up enough so he could look at what was making him

so uncomfortable. Taped firmly across his pubic

hair and private parts were three wide strips of

adhesive tape, the kind that doesn't come off

easily -- if at all. Written on the tape in large

black letters was the sentence, Get well soon, from

the nurse in the Ford Explorer you pulled over last

week.

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Wi ll it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

The Object of Rotary

The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as the basis of worthy enterprise and in particular, to encourage and foster:

The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service. High ethical standards in business & professions; the recognition of all useful occupations; & dignifying of each Rotari-

ans occupation as an opportunity to service society. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarians personal, business and community life. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and pro-

fessional persons united in the ideal of service.

National Anthem

Australians all let us rejoice, For we are young & free

We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil, Our home is girt by sea, Our land abounds with nature’s gifts, Of beauty rich and rare,

In history’s page, let every stage, Advance Australia Fair. In joyful strains, then let us sing, Advance Australia Fair.
