Match ReportYear 3

This week Yr 3 Red played Vic Park Gold at Higgins Park. There were a lot of good signs this week. Vic park are a good team and I think we saw that the Red side are a good side as well.Forwards: Keenan, Charlie, Zayd, Xavier, Taylan & Taylor were always in the play and creating opportunities.Midfield: Daniel, Nash, Ash, Kobe, Jake, Blake played really well and were able to lock in the forward line.Backline: Ethan, Ben, Josh, Samik, Tyler, Cody kept Vic park honest and repelled plenty of attacks.Yr 3 Red lost a valuable player this week. Kobe and his family is moving to Melbourne and it is a big loss as Kobe has played since Pre-Primary. He barely misses a training session or a game and always competes hard and trains well. Kobe and his brothers, Tate and Henry, will be missed as players, His parents Kellie, who has been team manager twice and a good hand around the club along with Arron who always helps out at training, floating between the year groups. As a family they will be missed ... Good luck to the Daltons. Goal scorers: Xavier 1, Ash 1, Zayd 1, Charlie 1, Keenan 1.

This week the Yr 3 Black team faced off against Manning for the first time in beautiful sunny weather. It was a slow start to the game but inthe second quarter the kids picked up their game with a strong display of skills. This resultedin a more even game which even Manning commented on. They certainly appreciated playing against a side of equal ability and the kids should be very proud of themselves! This weeksaw some very fancy footwork from a number of players to get away from the opposition, find space and get the ball down the field. Congratulations to Ethan and Dayle for best on field in today’s game.

Year 4

Our first early start of the season, the team was fresh and ready for another action packed showdown with Manning, this week against Maroon. Once again we were evenly matched, the scores were kept low, it was anyones game.

The first quarter saw the Reds on top, but each score was hard won and the second was almost scoreless for both sides. The ball spent alot of time in the centre, our midfield did a great job getting the ball into the forward, unfortunately we didn’t keep the ball long enough to score and the same was true for our opposition.

After the long break Manning gained some momentum and evened the scores. We failed to make the most of some opportunities in the fourth and ultimately our opposition came out on top. Our goal scorers this week were, Phoenix, Riley S, Luke and William.

Year 5

After turning in our worst game of the season against Manning the week before, the team were put through their paces on the training track during the week. In a series of physical and mentally challenging exercises and drills that would have left the Adelaide Football Club in disarray, our team regained their Chi and found their spiritual ‘happy place’.

Game fixturing can be funny sometimes, as this week we fronted another Manning Team, this time away from the sanctuary of Peet Park. Was it going to be a game of redemption or were we going to cave under the pressure again… All questions that kept the coaching group up all night on Friday as we strove to work out whether the ‘Jekyll or the Hyde’ team would front on Saturday morning.

Game day presented perfect conditions for foot-ball, sun was shining, birds were chirping and the sidelines were packed 15 deep by supporters from both clubs. This was going to be a clash of titanic proportions. Even though our warm up was rather lackadaisical, you could see the desire to play well in our players eyes. Led by our Captain, Tate Dalton who was playing his last game for the club our players took to the field with the desire to atone for last weekends hiccup.

The game certainly didn’t disappoint. Players from both sides crashed in, ran hard, tackled ferociously and played like there was no tomorrow.

The game see-sawed during the first 3 quarters as both teams took their opportunities and con-verted when they had the chance. At ¾ time the general consensus was that we were down by a few points. This was it. It had to be it! Our time to stand up and shine, our turn to make magic happen. And boy ohh boy wowwwwweee did we grab our opportunity by the scruff of the neck.

The team flew out of the blocks in the 4th quarter and completely dominated play for the rest of the game, kicks hit targets, handballs hit chests, tackles bought down opposition players and the goal umpire at our end of the ground had to be taken to hospital with whiplash due to the ball repeatedly sailing over his head. What a game, what a team effort, what a finish. As Bruce would say, It was very ‘Speecccial!!”

On Saturday we hosted Thornlie at Peet Park. We had an early start this week and the team were a little slow out of the blocks. The first quarter we defended really well and were able to restrict the opposition to one goal, with the game played mostly in their forward half. After quarter time we were able to get our game going and were able to record a comfortable 27 point victory. It was very encouraging to see that even though we didn’t play our best footy we were able to hang in there and keep playing our brand.

We travelled to Ellenbrook Sunday undermanned with only 18 players and contending against 27. I couldn’t be happier, we didn’t get the points but the character shown was unbelievable. I wouldn’t expect any less from them they are a super bunch and that why they have been very successful.

We had a very tight game against South Perth this week and unfortunately came up just short going down by 3 points when the final siren blew. Great to see our boys play with great heart all day with a never say die attitude which will hold them in good stead as we head into the second half of the season. In a game that was close all day, and with players in some different roles than what they have been used to we performed very well in a four quarter effort. Even when we needed 3 goals with about 7 minutes to play the boys gave it everything they had to get within 4 points with a couple of minutes to play. They kept attacking hard and unfortunately our last shot on goal with 20 seconds left didn’t quite hit the mark to pull off what would have been a remarkable win. Even though there were a lot of dejected players after the game the positive is that it means something to them and if we continue to play with that effort and desire more wins will come. Looking forward to getting back after a the bye weekends and finishing off the season well.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS BYE

The build up towards round 8 was excellent on the training track Tuesday and Friday night right from the start with both sessions, the group was switched on and ready to train. There is a saying with coaches that you take training with you into the games, we did that Sunday wright from the start switched on and ready to play.

The first 2 quarters set up our structures at every bounce and defence line going into the forward structure, really well done kept them scoreless for the first half.

Third quarter lost our way i would say we were Bea ton, but all so id say the score board can be your worst enemy makes it hard when your so far in front to keep playing at the level of the first half i understand that. We regrouped for the last quarter and played a great quarter of football to run over the top off them, what i really liked was again a great team game and using the corridor straight up the middle of the ground was outstanding football, switch of play, organizing the play on field, winning center bounces straight down the center to score was outstanding from the midfield a great team win again well done to all of the playing group.

We still need to work on our game structures for 4 quarters and learning to play 4 quarters of football which is one of the biggest part of your development in football at all levels of the game. Great work on your first half of the season guys, looking forward to the second half to see what we can achieve in our football. Thank you to all the helpers and parents for your support on Sunday really appreciate your support on game day.
