Hello everyone,
It is quoted that creativity is inventing, experimenting, taking risks, growing, making mistakes and coming up with new
and exciting ideas. Albert Einstein would go as far as to say “Creativity is intelligence having fun”. Every day in our
classrooms, on the playground and at home, our students are being creative, exploring ideas, trialling new things and
expressing themselves and their talents. We are always proud of their achievements and encourage them to “have a
go”. Many Kinglake students participated with creative entries in the Whittlesea Show, ranging from poetry, creative
language to different art pieces, receiving many awards and recognition of their talents and attempts. I have attached a
list of the students who participated and received awards, with special mention to John Reed with a first place prize for
his collage. They should all be congratulated for their efforts.
Last Friday 13th Oct, our very excited Grade 1 students shared a dinner with the Grade 2 students, who later stayed on
for their first overnight stay. A wonderful night was had by all, eating pizza, watching movies and for most, trying to get
some sleep. This is a great opportunity for students to practice being away and sleeping away from home, ready for
camp in Grade Three. A huge thankyou to our dedicated staff, Sarah, Miss Pascoe and Miss Forsyth for ensuring all
students enjoyed the experience.
A big thank you must also go to our wonderful PFA members for organising and preparing all our Hot Food Day orders.
We are very lucky to have these dedicated people to create and co-ordinate these special days, that are a real treat.
Our students have been using their creative minds and talents to create puppet shows, after learning about the use and
aspects of Wayang shadow puppets in the Indonesian culture. The Wayang shadow puppet shows are used to tell
cultural and moral stories and can be either 2D puppets, cut out from leather or 3D wooden rod puppets. All students
created 2D puppets and a short story that conveyed a simple message and presented it to their class. The puppets were
wonderful and thoughtfully made, to create an effective shadow on a screen to tell their story. Some students used
colour, sound, and music to bring the story to life and make it entertaining. It is great to see our students embrace new
cultural experiences and enjoy learning about the significance of these activities, relating them to their own cultural
experiences of storytelling in their own lives.
On Monday we were lucky to have Melbourne Victory Football Club visit us and hold soccer clinics for our children. The
children had a great time and we are all looking forward to further clinics which will be held on Mondays for the next 3
weeks.
Please take a look at the up-coming events, the end of year calendar is getting pretty busy and pop some of the dates on
your reminder list.
Have a great week,
Deb Keating
