President’s Message
First of all, an update for those who have not been informed of your Council’s action regarding a
new pastor. We have begun the process of forming the Call Committee. The Committee will
consist of 6 members of our congregation selected by the Council, and ratified by thecongregation. The term of the committee will continue until a new pastor is selected and ratified
by the congregation. It sounds simple, and it should not be too complicated. I have been informed
that there are a lot of candidates spread across the U S And what is there not to like about

Does this sound familiar? In our lifetimes we have frequently been taught to question almost everything
in life. This approach has us questioning, among other things, ethics, government, parenting, education, and (of course) organized religion. Brooks’ advice is that unless we have the education and brilliance of a
Nietzsche, that is probably a bad idea. “If you go out there armed only with your own observations and
sentiments, you will surely find yourself on very weak ground.” We will find ourselves saying “I don’t like
it” without having a viable alternative.
“Authorities and institutions don’t repress the passions of the heart, the way some young people now
suppose. They give them focus and a means to turn passion into change.” Thank you David Brooks, foryour focus.

From the Transition Team
The Transition Team has been meeting nearly every week for the past few months. We are still
relying on God to help bring the recommended slate for our new council. At this time, the pieces
are still coming together. Your prayers are greatly appreciated as we rely on God’s direction. Thank
you for your patience. Once the recommendations are finalized, they will be submitted to council
and the new constitutional process will begin, i.e. calling a special congregational meeting. The
intention is to keep you updated along the way, so you are in-the-know as the process progresses.
Our team anticipates further information will be available within a few weeks.
In Service to God and our Church Body,
The Transition Team

SLC Sunday School……
February we were blessed to work with the outreach team, adult Sunday school class and Hope & Joy this year to sendlove packages to the Wish I Ah residence. The kids signed lots of Valentine’s, decorated bags and filled each and every
bag with God’s love. We had a table full of goodies for all that participated and we just had FUN !!!!!
The greatest among you will be you servant.

“Keep Your Fire Burning Ministry”
The Keep Your Fire Burning Ministry had another wood cut at the Pape Nursery stockpile on Saturday, February 25.
Thanks John. We had a full crew of Sue and Alan Gallegos, Edwin Simpson, Dave McMullen, Gene Hightower and Mike
Jolly. We cut and mostly split three cords of mixed fire wood in four hours. Dave McMullen delivered his load to a
local women who has asked for fire wood from our ministry. The other loads were dropped off at the church on
Saturday. By Monday all the firewood was gone and there was no one staffing the church office on Monday to approve
removing the firewood from our church property. Apparently someone is helping themselves to the firewood without
asking at the church office. We are going to change our operation and stock pile the firewood at our homes where we
can secure the firewood. When someone inquires about the availability of firewood at the office, their information will
be taken and passed onto one of us on the Keep Your Fire Burning Ministry committee, who will then contact them and
make arrangements to deliver the firewood. If you have dead or down trees that you want to make available for this
ministry or if you want to help, please call Alan Gallegos at 855-3951. Youdon’t need a chainsaw. We need help
running the splitter or loading the trucks. Training and safety equipment will be provided if you don’t have appropriate
safety equipment. If you have any questions, please call.
Yours In Christ,
Alan J. Gallegos

Spring Greetings from the Outreach Team!!
This will be a short article, as this afternoon we are officially having our first newly formed OutreachTeam Meeting in the church work room. This team is not a select group by any means. We areopenly asking for additional members and additional ideas to really help us let the LIGHT of the
LORD and the light of Sierra Lutheran Church shine on this mountain top and into the valleybeyond. Help us make this happen!!
I cannot thank all the people who worked so hard to make the patients at Wish i Ah feel loved this pastValentine's Day. This was truly a WHOLE church outreach project. We provided gifts for over 80patients! When you next see Cathy Jolley give her a big hug as she and her grand daughtersspearheaded this project. Right along with Cathy and ALL the Sunday School classes, there werepeople working together to see that all the bags were filled. It made all of us think of the parable of the
fishes and the loaves. We had enough to fill all the bags for the patients assigned to us plus 2 more!!God is good!
I really need to give a HUGE thank you to the Hope and Joy Ladies in our church. Each month theychoose an outreach project and they included Wish i Ah for the month of February. We could not havefilled all the bags we did if it was not for the generosity of these women. Hope and Joy is the very firstsmall group that was formed back in 1984 when our church was founded. All of these ladies havedone so much for so many but never "toot their own horns' - but I am doing it LOUDLY right now.Thank you and God bless each and every one of you. Doreen Pickering has been President of thisgroup for years and she needs a standing ovation for a job well done!!
I will let you know in the next newsletter what we "cook up" this afternoon at our meeting. Our missionis to minister first to our church family, then to our local community, and then to the valley and theworld as a whole! Each of us can be a part of this mission of Love wherever we see a need. Do notwait for someone else to fill that need. Be willing to step up and help. Every small act of kindness is a
gift we can give back to God for all He has given us. Let us each be generous while reaching out inLOVE!! Blessings to each of you!
