Lord our God,
all truth is from you,
and you alone bring oneness of heart.
Give your people the joy of hearing your word
in every sound and of longing for your
presence more than life itself.
May all the attractions of a changing world
serve only to bring us the peace of your
kingdom which this world does not give.
Amen.
Dear Parents & Students,
Congratulations to our staring Dad’s Football
Team that successfully defeated the Sandy East

WATER EXPO
A reminder to all families that the children’s Water Expo is being held this Thursday 12th September from 6:30-7:30pm
The children are looking forward to showing you what they have learnt.
SOCIAL MEDIA for your INFORMATION
You may have noticed in the weekend papers there has been a reference to children using social media sites. The main site
the articles referred to was KIK. Last year we had student issues with this site. Please make sure you are aware of the sites
your children are using. Sometimes children just do not think it through, and let those they do not know into their online
conversations.
FOOTY COLOURS DAY
Next Friday 20th September the children will be walking down to Sandringham Football Ground for a Footy Colours Morning
full of fun activities. The children will eat their lunch at the oval and the return to school. If any parents are available to help us
out, we would be most grateful. The entire school will leave school at approximately 9:15am to walk to the oval and return
around 12pm. If you are available to help, please let your child’s classroom teacher know. (The more, the merrier).
See flyer in this newsletter.
Fr Frank will be leaving during the holidays for his annual overseas sabbatical in Europe. We hope he has a restful,
rewarding trip and we look forward to his safe return in November.
On behalf of Fr. Frank and the staff of Sacred Heart Parish School, I wish you all a safe and relaxing holiday and
look forward to seeing everyone in Term 4. (Monday 7th October)
Kind regards,
Erin Macdonald

YEAR 1/2 Hi Everyone, The end of Term is fast approaching, it is difficult to believe how quickly it has gone by. We’d like to acknowledge the children in year 1 and 2 for all the hard work they have put in this term. We are very proud of their efforts and it is evident that they learnt and progressed a great deal. The 1/2s did a fantastic job performing the ‘Water Cycle Song’ at Assembly on Friday afternoon. The rest of the school greatly enjoyed the performance. Thank you to all those parents who attended.
This Thursday night is the Sacred Heart Water Expo, the children have been working hard on our Inquiry throughout the Term and they are looking forward to showcasing some of their work tomorrow evening. Cheers and Go Cats, Miss Brodie, Mr Carmody and Miss Wilson.
YEAR 3/4 What a fabulous term we have had and hasn’t it flown. It is sad and scary to think we only have one more term with this set of adorable students. Yesterday we went to Mass as a level. It was lovely to be able to share fully in the Mass with all our children and to watch as they received the Eucharist again. The respectful and reverent way they presented themselves was a joy to behold. We look forward to the culmination of our Inquiry topic with our Expo tomorrow night. The children have been working hard to complete their tasks and prepare themselves to amaze you with what they have been discovering. In our Maths workshops we have been covering the topic of Money and have been problem solving and calculating change. This has involved lots of revision with place value and number facts and is highlighting the importance of knowing multiplication tables. As part of our fortnightly Homework Grid it is expected that the children have been learning and revising their multiplication tables and division facts as part of their
homework routine. Problem solving is a life skill and being confident with number facts will greatly assist them, now and in the future. In Literacy, we have continued with writing both factual information for our Inquiry work and writing Narratives to create a storybook about either a flood or a drought experience. We have been honing our comprehension skills when reading information about drought and floods. Our focus has been on the strategies of finding the main idea, identifying facts and details and drawing conclusions and making inferences. These are all important strategies when reading and understanding information. We all hope you have a peaceful holiday with your gorgeous children. …and for those of us with a team still in the finals… GO Hawks (from Rob and Jo) and Go Cats (from Janet)
NEWS FROM THE CLASSROOMS
YEAR 5/6
Another two weeks has past, and the end of term 3 is in sight. This has kept us very busy indeed! The 5/6s have been working hard on the various water projects. Some have been doing experiments, some have made movies and others have even written a song about water! These will all be on display during the water expo night tomorrow night. With two weeks of inter school sports being cancelled we have nothing to report there, however we are all hoping it is on this Friday as it our last inter school sport for the year. In English we have been looking at non fiction writing and have begun our own writing pieces this week. In mathematics we are still finishing off our measurement unit specifically looking at volume and capacity.
We have also spent this term working on a stand alone space unit. This has been very interesting and we are currently working on our planet projects as well. We are all looking forward to the holidays; along with a well deserved rest! Jayne McKay, Catherine Newington and Jonathan Bence
Christmas Production 2013
It’s nearly that time of year again!
The annual Christmas performance will be held on Friday 13th December this year,
however it can’t run without its performers.
Any students that are interested in trying out for the Christmas performance are welcome
to audition on the following dates in the second week of Term 4:
Prep & Year 1/2 - Monday 14th October
Year 3/4 – Tuesday 15th October
Year 5/6 – Wednesday 16th October
Students will not require any pre-rehearsed material. The audition requires that they
read from a script that is given on the day (younger year levels will have older students
helping them).
Students will be noted on their confidence, projection of voice as well as their behaviour
and effort within Performing Arts classes throughout the year.
In previous years we have had many students within the school auditioning for a limited
amount of spots. Parents are encouraged to communicate with their children that not
every student that auditions will get an acting role but that they should still try their
best and feel proud that they gave it a go regardless.
Every student gets to sing alongside their class within the performance.
If you have any questions then please contact me at:

Hi Everyone,
The Bunnings Sausage Sizzle is fast approaching on Saturday 21st September.
Thanks to those who have already volunteered but we need at least another 14-16 people to help out before it can go ahead.
At this stage, I don’t have enough people to do it and I don’t want to have to cancel the event as we wouldn’t then be given the oppor-
tunity in the future.
Last year we raise almost $2500 for the school and it was a lot of fun.
I need volunteers as below:
Please contact me as soon as you can on [email protected] to let me know if you can help out.
Thanks,
Regards,
Chris

you're tired; you quit when the gorilla is tired."
Robert Strauss
Any child who arrives after the 9am bell
must be signed in at the office by a
parent or carer. Please call the office
if your child is going to be late, or away
for the day. We will call parents if we
haven't received explanation by 9:30am.
If you are paying your fees by the term,
please note the dates below that
payments fall due. We do not issue
statements in order to cut down on paper
use and administration time. You can,
however, request a statement at any
time during the year.
If you have something to drop in at the
office for your child, please ensure it is
labelled clearly with their name and
class. It will be passed on at the next
break time. We do not interrupt class
time.
Any payments sent to the office must be
in clearly labelled envelopes. Please DO
NOT send cash fee payments with your
child—amounts are too large and we
cannot be held responsible should it go
missing. Cash payments not accepted
after 12 midday on Fridays.
Payments for the P&F (i.e. for functions
or uniform shop) must be kept separate
from school payments. Please ensure
P&F items are addressed separately in
envelopes to school items and are clearly
labelled; this will help with passing on to
relevant people.
Remember, if unsure of anything at all in
relation to administration matters at
school, don't hesitate to ring the office
and we will be more than happy to assist
you with any problems.
The office is open between 8:45am and
3:45pm Monday –Friday.
