From the President
The summer seems to be going by pretty fast and I’ve only had 2 problems with the Model A so far. Not too bad com-
pared to the last few years. As you may know, I was work-ing on the brakes before the barn tour and didn’t quite fin-
ish in time for the tour due to a stuck adjuster. But, I now
have brakes that don’t sound like a garbage truck. The awful squealing was due to a loose brake lining; all the riv-
ets had loosened over the years. Bob Outwater lent me his brake arching machine and it did a great job. Before
arching the brakes, the drag on one wheel was so great that it hardly turned. Thanks Bob for the loan and also
thanks to Dick for offering to come over and help.
The barn tour was interesting, but Debbie and I seemed to have missed seeing most of the barns. Thanks Dave and
Diane for hosting the tour and John Leydon for the lunch.
I’ve been a little busy with travel for work and getting Deb-
bie’s boat ready for the season, so haven’t been able to get out as much as I’d like. We had the boat out for the first
time for the July meet and it looks like things are working well, so we should be good for the joint steamboat/Model A
meet in October. I hear the spaghetti dinner was great; un-fortunately, I had just returned from Fort Dix and needed
to get caught up on some other things. Speaking of getting caught up on things, Bob finally
shamed me into working on the coupe or is it that I felt
sorry for him not having a project. In any case, I brought the cowl over to his garage and we have the new panel
mounted. All that needs to be done to finish the cowl is to drill the holes to mount the tank; I should have it done
any day now. After that, I have a few more things that need attention, like patching the rear fenders and fixing
the hood. Since I don’t weld, I think I may have to take advantage of Bob’s fabricating talent a little more. Bob
may get tired of seeing me, but I do appreciate the help.
As always hope to see all of you at an upcoming event.

We were greeted by many enthusiastic residents and their
caregivers as the rain quickly disappeared. Several of the
residents got in and enjoyed “driving” the cars. One resi-
dent related that her father gave her mother a Model A as
an engagement gift! Another lady became tearful while re-
calling riding in her father’s Model A. A wheelchair bound
gentleman held a photo from 1964 in which he was seated
behind the wheel of his extremely rare 1931 Essex Boattail
roadster (also see photo). Our cars were then driven to the
Acute Section in the rear of the facility so those residents
could also join us.
All in all, the weather cooperated and we had the pleasure
of visiting with many wonderful residents and staff. At
about 11:45 a.m. five of the six cars drove some back
roads to Bob and Anna’s house for a relaxed lunch. After

Delaware Valley Firehouse
Spaghetti Dinner and Cruise Night
The Delaware Valley Firehouse offers an all you can eat
spaghetti dinner along with a cruise night the second Fri-
day of each month during the summer. Diane and I attend
them regularly to support the local fire company, but we
thought it would be fun if we let the rest of the club know
about the event. I sent an email out to the club members
inviting them to the dinner. Knowing that there are a lot
more than Model A’s lurking in many of the members ga-
rages I also suggested that they could bring any classic,
antique or hot rod they felt like.
Bob and Bernadette Outwater took us up on the offer, and
met us at the firehouse on Headquarters Rd in Erwinna PA
on a beautiful summer night. We were also joined by our
neighbors who are regulars at the dinner.
We had a great meal of all-you-can-eat spaghetti, salad,
bread and home made desserts. Unfortunately, one of the
main dessert makers was tied up making stuff for the Tini-
cum Art Festival, so there wasn’t the quantity of desserts
available that there usually is, but we survived.
After we had our fill of food and drink, (yes, there is even
some local wine available at the dinner), we wandered out-
side to enjoy the beautiful evening.
Bob had his roadster, and I had mine. Other cars included
several muscle cars, new and old Corvettes etc. The fire-
men came around to award the evenings trophies. They

On Saturday July 26, 2014 at 10:30 am with a light rain

The Restoration of Baxter John Leydon has been sharing the restoration story of
Baxter, a 1930 Woody Wagon with me. Baxter is being re-
stored near his home in Aldie Virginia with help from sev-eral friends from the Model A club in Baltimore.
He hopes to have the upholstery and top on by Labor Day,
and to have the project finished by Thanksgiving. It’s a lot of work, but I’m sure Baxter will be a beauty when fin-
ished.

We cordially invite you and the members of your Model A
Club to join the members of the Lehigh Valley Model A
Club for our 4th annual Poker Run on Saturday, Septem-

2014. You surely will have a fun day driving your Model A
