CINCINNATI CHAPTER SAR ACTIVITIES * On September 9th, Compatriots Paul M. Wilke, Ken Carpenter, and James Schaffer attended the J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) Club meeting of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, located at 8645 Kenwood Road in the Kenwood section of Cincinnati. Our Ken Carpenter is President of this group of Seniors. Paul presented a discussion on flags. There were about 15 attendees, and the presentation of about 40 minutes was well received. In the photo, Paul demonstrates how Betsy Ross cut a five pointed star from a folded piece of cloth, with just one cut. * September 10th the Cincinnati Chapter BOM met at 6:00 for supper, meeting followed after. Three Supplemental Certificates were passed out, one each to Franz Ott for his Patriot Henry Bray, to James Schaffer for his Patriot Jacob Massey, and to Ken Carpenter for his Patriot Thomas Kincaid. OHSSAR 1st VP Jim Schaffer in-stalled new member James Jordan. His qualifying ancestor was Samuel Hancock.

* September 12th, Compatriot Michael Gunn attended a Naturalization Citizenship Cere-mony in Room 805 of the U. S. District Court, where 16 very happy people were made citizens of our great country. Judge Black was the presiding judicial officer.

* On September 13th, the Chapter Constitution Day Luncheon was held at The Embassy Suites, 4554 Lake Forest Dr, Blue Ash, 45242, at 12:00 noon. The John Reily Chapter, DAR, co-hosted the well-attended event.

After the meal, Compatriot Paul M. Wilke was the speaker, presenting the history of the Badge of Military Merit, the pre-cursor to the Purple Heart. Sgt William Brown was one of the first recipients, now honored in Cincinnati's Pioneer Cemetery. Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U. S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave and wise men on September 17, 1787, recognizing all who are born in the U.S. or who by naturalization have become citizens. On that date, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention met for the last time to sign the document they created 238

years ago. E Pluribus Unum - “Out of Many, One”. Thirteen independent states then became one United country, and many peoples, cultures, religions became one people, with a shared destiny.

Eleven new Compatriots were sworn in by Compat-riots James D. Schaffer and Franz B. Ott at an induction ceremony during the Constitution Day event.

* On the afternoon of September 13th, a Flag Certificate was presented to the Joe and Julia Clubb family, of Sardinia. They fly the U.S. flag twenty-four/seven, with a light proudly illuminating the flag at night. The SAR Flag Certificate is awarded to citizens who show their patriotism by flying our nation's flag full time. * On September 16th, Compatriots Mike Gunn and Ian Cunning-ham attended a "Missing In America Project" ceremony at The Dayton National Cemetery. Fourteen previously unclaimed re-mains of military veterans were honored with a formal military burial. The M.I.A.P. is a nationwide effort in finding the remains of veterans who have been cremated and left unclaimed on shelves at funeral facilities, after families had not claimed those remains.

The Veterans who found a final resting place at this ceremony were born as early as 1900, with death dates as long ago as 1973.

* September 16th, the returning Honor Flight was met by the usual large crowd, including SAR Chapter members Ken Carpenter, Mike Blum, Mike Gunn, Gerald Knight and Ian Cunningham.
