This past Saturday night we he ld our 7 th annua l Halloween Carnival. This year we had an even bigger crowd than expected. The addition of our wonderful

November means Thanksgiving. It is a time to be thankful for everything one has in their lives. While enjoying the holiday with friends and family, take time to reflect on all the many blessings we have in our lives. For the Thanksgiving buffet, please remember reservations are required and

make them as early as possible, because we do expect all three seatings to sell out this year."!REMINDERS: !• Shirt tails shall be tucked in at all times while

TENNIS REPORT, BILL JONES" Happy Thanksgiving everyone! This is the time of year where we start to reflect on what a great year we have had. The tennis department is thankful for all our members who come out and enjoy the tennis center as often as possible. The golf course looks great, and we are working on improving your member experience in tennis as well. We added a new patio in 2017 and we are constantly striving to make this quaint little tennis center the best place to play in New Bern. So come out with all this good weather to play the game we love. We look forward to seeing you all soon!"!

Tennis News

!Directors Tip of the Month ! Did your parents ever tell you, “sit up straight at the dinner table?” This can be used on the tennis court. If you have poor posture on the court you will be “reaching” or “lunging” for the ball. When this happens your consistency suffers and that means matches are harder to come by. So work on your posture for better balance, better shots and more consistency to win more points and finish your matches on a high note.

Kids After School Tennis Program !With the kids playing on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 4pm to 7pm, we are thrilled to have such enthusiastic participation by our kids. !Boys school tennis season starts February 1st and they are getting ready for those practices. The classes will run until November 16th and then we will pick back up on November 28th until December 14th. !If you have any questions please contact Hank or myself here at the shop. Thank you to all the parents and kids who participate, we really have a great group of kids every week.

Pretty in Pink Fundraiser !We will have had this event as I write this and we will update you in next months newsletter with the outcome.

Junior Member of the Month! As the cooler weather starts, the tennis program here at NBGCC is heating up. Our junior program continues to grow, and we are seeing improvement in all of our juniors. This month’s junior member of the Month seems quiet, however don’t let that fool you; she loves to compete and has a killer forehand. She always comes to the courts with a smile on her face and is determined to do her best each and every time. This month’s Junior Member of the Month is none other than Hannah Van Dyke.

Member of the Month This member is always giving of her time and effort no matter what the cause or the event. She is here most weeks playing with her friends and neighbors. She always, and I do mean always enjoys her time playing. She is unique in how she keeps score, the way only she can do it. Do you know who it is?

It is Mrs. Bridget Cella. Bridget is a former LTA President and just one of the nicest people you will ever meet on the tennis court. If you are lucky to play with her you might even get a special 40-40 feeling sporty! She truly is a gem.

Thank you Bridget for making us all smile every time we see you!

Golf News!!

The first month of Strive for 35 has been a huge success! The Junior Golfers are working hard on their golf game and improving every time they come out on the golf course. If you see any of these Jr. Golfers around make sure to congratulate them on their accomplishments on the golf course. The color font indicates the current stage for each Jr. Golfer. !The Stage Breakdown: Stage One: Fringe to 30yds Stage Two: 30yds to 70yds Stage Three: 70yds to 120yds !Trey Quinn (11)- Trey passed Stage One with a 35! He had a 2ft putt on the last hole to advance to the next stage and buried it. Trey has tried the stage two yardage and shot 41 on his first try. The next time he tried Stage Two he passed with a 35! He is on to Stage Three! !Arthur Lamard (16)- Arthur passed Stage One with a course record 30 on his first try! He has attempted Stage Two three times so far. He shot 41, 38, 39. He is out here at the course working hard every day to get better! He will pass very soon! !Tristan Smith (11)- Tristan passed Stage One with a 31 on his first try! On his first time on Stage Two yardage he shot 39. He is getting more consistent every time he comes out! !Caroline Cready (8)- Caroline has improved every time she has played from stage one. Her initial score was 56. We talked about a realistic goal of cutting 6 strokes from the 56 and continue to cut more down every week. Since then she has shot 47, 41, 38, and passed stage one with a 32! !Camp Stix (6)- Camp shot a 47 on his Stage One initial score. Camp wanted to cut 7 strokes from that and shoot around 40. He shot a 46 on his second try. He didn’t reach his goal but Camp has worked very hard in practice and he is improving at a rapid pace. The next time he tested he passed Stage One with a 34! !Graham Foster (10)- Graham set the course record from Stage One with an impressive 28 (-7)! He will attempt Stage Two for the first time soon! !Kennedy Hiner (6)- Kennedy shot a 56 for her stage one initial score. Just like Caroline, we gave her the goal of just cutting 6 stroke every time we played until we passed stage one. The next time she played she shot 44. The most impressive thing was that she finished birdie, eagle, birdie! !Alistair Smith (8)- Alistair shot 50 with his initial Stage One score. He is one of the funniest kids I have ever met. He has improved in practice tremendously and his goal is to cut 6 strokes next time he plays. Alistair shot 40 with the first ever Hole-in-One in Strive for 35 History! !Will Orman (6)- Will shot 55 on his Stage One initial score. He has practiced very hard and will try to cut 6 strokes for his next match! He is continuing to work on his speed control and is improving! !Henry Foster (7)- Henry shot 55 as well on his stage one initial score. He always has a smile on his face and has fun! His goal was to try to cut 6 strokes off his score next test day. Henry shot 42 and cut 13 strokes. Good Job Henry! !We have improved by a group by an impressive 81 strokes. That number will continue to grow more and more as we continue through the end of November. !If you still want your kid to sign up for Strive for 35 it’s not too late!
