NAPCAN invites you to get involved with National Child Protection Week this year and play your part in creating safe and nurturing environments for all Australian children. The week is an opportunity for government, business and community to come together to promote the safety and wellbeing of children, with particular emphasis on messages such as: ● We all have a part to play in protecting children ● By building stronger communities, we are creating safer environments for all children To get involved with National Child Protection Week, you can: ● Plan or attend a community event. An event can be anything from a display, meal, forum, fundraiser or family day out and is a great opportunity to spread the word. ● Make your influence positive; start a conversation today about listening to and valuing the voice of children and young people in your community. ● Follow us on social media. Like our Play Your Part Facebook page (napcan.playyourpart) and follow us on Twitter (NAPCAN_AU) and Instagram (@playyourpart_napcan). Use the hashtags #ncpw or #playyourpart. ● Visit NAPCAN‟s website at www.napcan.org.au for information about events in your area, to sign up to our newsletters, for copies of our campaign posters, and for additional resources. seeing you there. There is no cost for adults.

SCHOOL COUNSELLOR

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Karen Morley will no longer be available to cover counselling services for our school. We will be recruiting a counsellor to cover Term Four as soon as possible, but it will mean we have no counsellor for the remaining three weeks of this term. We apologise for the changes that have occurred and the inconvenience this may have caused students and families. If you feel your child needs assistance before the beginning of Term Four, we would recommend external counselling agencies like:

Once again we will be using Parent Lounge to book all Parent Teacher Interviews. You should have received an email with instructions explaining how to book your interview time. Instructions are also included in this newsletter. These interviews are intended to focus on your child‟s development and on related aspects such as attitudes, concentration and general progress. It will also be an opportunity to look at areas of strength in your child‟s educational progress and, where appropriate, aspects where further development is desirable. If you are unable to make this date you will need to see your child‟s teacher to arrange an interview at a time that is mutually convenient. If you are experiencing any difficulty booking an interview time online please contact the office and we can assist you with this.

VISITORS

All visitors and volunteers to the school, including parents who are coming for reading, activity groups, tuckshop and any other volunteer activities are required to sign in at the office before proceeding further. Please also remember to then sign out via the Office as you leave.

Items to be delivered to students during the day can be left at the office.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

FAMILIES LEAVING

As our total enrolment drives many aspects of our school (staffing, budget, class sizes and structure) it is important that we try to be as accurate as possible in predicting the school enrolment for 2019. If you know that you will be leaving at the end of the year could you please notify the office as soon as possible? Your assistance with this matter is greatly appreciated.

DANCEFEVER

Dance Fever has been a hit with the children. Each week, the dance team, Michael and Alyssa fly up from Brisbane to teach the children old and modern dance as well as dance etiquette. While the program is a lot of fun, it is also part of the Arts program and is being assessed for reports at the end of the semester. To show what the children have been learning, a Showcase of the dances will be held for parents to come along and watch. Showcase Prep to Year 2 will take place on Tuesday, 18

th

September from 11.50 - 12.45pm. Year 3 - Year 6 students have been invited to the Interschool

Challenge on Tuesday 11th September from 6.00pm - 8.30pm at the

Mackay Entertainment Centre with a cost of $5 per person. A note was sent home a few weeks ago with information about this. Could all notes please be returned to the office by next Tuesday?

PRAYERS Please remember Helen Privett who is currently recovering from surgery. We pray for a speedy recovery for Helen. Please also remember Anna Kurylko (Allison Blakey‟s mother) who is unwell at this time and receiving treatment. Please remember in your prayers anyone who is sick within our community, we pray for God‟s healing and restoration.

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

8th

September

This feast originated in Jerusalem about the sixth century, a development of the feast of the dedication of the church of Saint

Anne, built in Jerusalem „where Mary was born‟. Observed in Rome in the seventh century, it was later used to

determine the date of Mary‟s Immaculate Conception. Because of her importance in salvation history, Mary‟s birthday is

celebrated as well as those of her son Jesus the Lord, and of Saint John the Baptist. (© Liturgy Brisbane 2016)

„For it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in

her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus,

because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had said through the prophet:

Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel,

which means “God is with us.”‟ (Matthew 1: 20-23)

Let us pray….

Hail Mary, Full of Grace The Lord is with thee

Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus

Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now

And at the hour of our death, Amen.

CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF ROCKHAMPTON

Prot:18243:MMjg_0600

31 August 2018

Dear Pastoral Associates, parish contacts, parishioners

The Australian Catholic Bishops and Catholic Religious Australia issued today a joint response to

recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Abuse. These recommendations are available

on the ACBC website at www.catholic.org.au .

This week there have been media articles about our Diocese which have elicited reactions and emotions

among our faithful and in the wider community. I pray that all in our communities will find the healing of

Christ.

Parishioners or members of the community who may be disturbed by the recent media reports are

encouraged to contact the Diocesan Pastoral Response Line: 1800 830 113 (Free call)

Following the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, the Diocese has put

in place policies and procedures to ensure the safety of children in all settings. The Diocese has established

an Office of Professional Standards and Safeguarding and a Diocesan Pastoral Response Line for persons

affected by abuse.

The Diocese will continue to implement the Church’s response to the recommendations of the Royal

Commission and I am thankful for the great work of the Commission in assisting our Church to be a safer

place for all.

Further, if anyone has a concern that is of a criminal nature, I encourage you to contact the Police on

131444 (Police Link).

As the followers of Christ, I invite all in our Diocese to remain committed to ensuring that the Diocese and

all its ministries are safe places for our children and vulnerable adults and achieving the highest standards

of compliance to child protection and safeguarding in our parishes and all areas of our ministry and

outreach.

I pray daily for survivors and their families who have experienced sexual abuse and I pray that the release

of this report today will be another step on the road towards healing.
