VISION STATEMENT
We at St Joseph’s Primary School Queens Park
are a faith based community which strives to
recognise and respond to the image of Christ in us all, as we grow through work and prayer.
THE ST JOSEPH’S SCHOOL COMMUNITY ACKNOWLEDGES
THAT WE COME TOGETHER ON THE ANCESTRAL LANDS OF THE
WHADJUK PEOPLE
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT
St Joseph's Primary School acknowledges the Whadjuk people,
the Traditional Owners who walked upon and cared for this land for thousands of years.
We acknowledge the continued deep spiritual attachment and relationship of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander peoples to this country
and commit ourselves to the ongoing journey of Reconciliation.

Celebration and Liturgy. I would like to thank Mrs Lewis, Mrs Martin, our Indigenous children and our
Year 6 Peer Support leadership team for their preparation of this beautiful celebration.
SCHOOL HOLIDAYS: Students’ last day of school for Term 2 is this Thursday June 29. I wish
all students a happy and safe holiday and look forward to them returning for Term 3 on Tuesday
July 18.
SCHOOL UNIFORM: The new sports jacket is now available in from the uniform shop. I apologies
for any inconvenience caused by the late delivery. Now that the new stock has arrived this should not be a problem
in the future. Please make sure that children do not return to school with shaved hair or fad styles. Our uniform
policy is on the school website. When purchasing school sports shoes remember that they need to be predominantly
white.
TIMELINE FOR THE APPOINTMENT OF NEW PRINCIPAL FOR ST JOSEPH'S: The Catholic Education Office has
commenced this process with the position being advertised and short listings being carried out. The announcement
should take place week 2 in Term 3.
NEON FUN RUN: This takes place tomorrow and I would encourage parents to support the P & F and their children
by sponsoring their children.

Given the complexity of the ecological crisis and its multiple causes, we need to realize that the
solutions will not emerge from just one way of interpreting and transforming reality. Respect must
also be shown for the various cultural riches of different peoples, their art and poetry, their interior
life and spirituality. [63]
P & F: They have made some generous contributions to the school and classes to enhance the
opportunities for the children. They have recently made the following contributions:
The purchase of new soccer and football shirts.
- $100 Pre Kindy
- $200 Each Class
- $750 Special Needs
- $750 Social Worker
- $750 Performing Arts
- $250 Gardening Club

NAIDOC Week
The NAIDOC theme this year is “Our Languages Matter.” Prior
to European settlement over 250 Indigenous languages were
spoken. Today, only 120 languages are spoken, however
many are in danger of being lost. St Joseph’s School sits on
Noongar Land. The Noongar language is also at risk of being lost. Many Elders are
sharing their language with the next generation to maintain the Noongar language.
This week, we celebrated the Noongar Language through our Liturgy of the Word and Flag
raising ceremony. The Indigenous and Peer Support students read beautifully and performed
the Liturgy and Flag Raising ceremony with such pride. The roof was raised when all the
students sang with their amazing voices. We had the pleasure of being entertained by past
Indigenous students Isaiah, Thairon and Brandon playing the didgeridoo and performing
traditional dances. We also welcomed back two Elders, Shirley Quaresimin who performed the
water ceremony and Mrs Moylan who speaks Noongar and is passing
her language on to her grandchildren and the wider community. We
thank our guests for sharing their culture with our school. It was a spiritual start to
our NAIDOC celebration.
Students in Year 1 to 6 participated in a Virtual Reality Incursion on Tuesday and
Wednesday. The students learnt about Aboriginal people and their culture where
they walked through a rainforest virtual reality program.
I would like to thank our amazing students Mahalia, Kaia, Hallemia, Jaziah, Ayesha, Sabina,
Christopher, Emily B, Mekhi, Nicole, Patrick, Emily S, Jack, Isabella, Anetka, Kyla and Tara for their
outstanding and inspirational performance. A big thank you to Mrs Martin, Miss Palermo, Miss
Della Posta, Miss Amber Lupini, Mrs Savage Morton, Mrs Tsang, Mrs Valenti, Mr Alonzo, Ms
Eldridge, Mrs Palermo, Mrs Handcock, Ms Dragon and Mr and Mrs Vagg who made NAIDOC week
a success. I am very proud to be part of a school community that builds reconciliation between
Indigenous and Non-Indigenous people and their culture.
I have added the following Noongar words for you to practise over the school holidays:
Girl: Yok
Woman/women: Yorga
Boy: Nop
Man: Marman
ST JOE’S GROWS GARDENING CLUB: On Tuesday June 13, our Gardening Club
had two visitors from Bunnings, Skye and Alex. They talked to the students about
sustainability and did an activity which involved sowing seeds in egg cartons. The
children thoroughly enjoyed the activity and got to take their seeds home. They
then proudly showed off their vegetable garden to our visitors who were suitably
impressed with the variety of vegetables, herbs and fruit that we are growing.
Thanks to Skye and Alex for coming out to see us and to Bunnings for the seeds
and potting mix. We hope to see them again in the Spring.
Shane, Venuja, Connor, Saxon, Emmanuel, Liya, Angela, Hallemia, Renita,
Charlize, Alisha, Kuenwong and Levi.
SACRAMENTAL CHOIR: I would like to THANK the wonderful students
who participated in the Choir for our beautiful celebrations of
Confirmation and Holy Communion. What an amazing effort!! You were
absolutely wonderful! Your dedication, enthusiasm and commitment is
something to be very proud of.
I know that the Adult Parish Choir enjoy this time of the year, when we all
have the opportunity to sing together as one!
It is always wonderful to see students supporting each other, especially
when it is totally voluntary!!
THANK YOU to parents for supporting and bringing you along on Monday nights to all our rehearsals.
Staff play a big role on these special occasions and I would like to thank Mrs Beadle and Mr Alonzo for your support
on the night with the children.
Special thanks to Mrs Ward and Miss Della Posta for your support and dedication, you are amazing!!
Thank you to all staff who supported the children and myself in preparation for singing for both Sacraments! Your
support is greatly appreciated!
In the words of St Augustine “To sing well is to pray twice”.
This is something we definitely do well here at St Joseph’s.
God Bless
Keep Singing.

Dear Parents and Caregivers
Following the announcement of the Federal education funding reform policy
late last night, I am writing to all families in Catholic schools across Western
Australia to provide my assurance that Catholic Education Western Australia
(CEWA) will maintain a laser focus on affordability, to ensure accessibility for
every family seeking a Catholic education.
Our current federal funding arrangements will remain in place for 2018. As a
system we are committed to ensuring fees are as low as possible on a school
by school basis. The next 12 months will also provide CEWA with the time to
consider how the additional funding provided by the Federal Government will
be distributed across the system, meeting the needs of our students.
Yours sincerely
Dr Tim McDonald
Executive Director
