in animal and plant hydrolysates can be overcome by the component consistency of synthetic ingredients.

Advantages :» Increased consistency» Improved reproducibility » Comparable productivity» Reduced risk

“Success doesn’t come easy - it is the continuous endeavor of creative minds, tireless efforts and a determined goal.”

“Change is the watchword of progression.”

After a journey of a thousand miles in the field of ‘Make in India Vision’ and our relentless efforts in lowering the carbon footprint, HiMedia does it again. The innovative minds have come up with a revolutionary range of products called “HiCynth™ Media” thus becoming pioneers in the introduction of Chemically Defined Microbiology Media.

At a time when the regulatory bodies are posing challenges towards the use of animal based peptones and genetically modified organism/ plant, the replacement of these peptones with completely defined chemical components can be considered as the need of the hour. It not only mitigates the safety risks of animal and plant hydrolysates by being free from BSE/TSE/GMO but also contributes towards the responsibility of sustainable environment.

“HiCynth™ Media” the latest innovation, the first of its kind, the 5th generation as we term it in our range of Dehydrated Culture Media makes use of specially developed HiCynth™ peptones. These proprietary chemically defined peptones

used in the formulations meet the nutritional requirements of microorganisms in a defined manner. They substitute the undefined organic sources of animal and plant based origin peptones thereby reducing the risk of process related impurities ensuring increased consistency. Thus the component variability

Polymerase Chain Reaction or PCR is a technique in Molecular Biology to amplify a single or few copies of DNA to generate millions of copies of DNA sequence of our interest. This fast and inexpensive ‘Molecular Photocopying’ technique revolutionized the nearly impossible study of isolated pieces of DNA.

Palm PCR is an ultra-fast, battery-powered, palm-size portable PCR machine. This unprecedented machine is a small, handheld device which features a fully portable, stand-alone thermocycler that delivers PCR amplification with high speed and sensitivity.

A protocol to perform a PCR requires setting up of only 4 control parameters:

» PCR speed» Annealing temperature» PCR time» Preheat

Melting and Extension temperatures are automatically controlled by the operating software.

SPECIFICATIONS• PCR Performance : 8 to 39 mins.• Dynamic Range : 120 bp to 2 kbp.• Extreme high efficiency : Near single copy amplification

sensitivity below 10 copies• Weight : 350g (including battery)• Display : 1.3 inch color TFT LCD• Number of Wells : 12• Sample Volume : 20 µl• Temperature : Well-to-well uniformity < 0.1°C : Stability : < 0.1°C : Accuracy : < 0.2°C• Operating Temperatures : 0°C to 40°C

PRODUCT FEATURESPlant Tissue Culture vented Phyta Jars are autoclavable and made up of highly purified polypropylene/ polycarbonate which provide excellent light transmission.

The vent on the top of cover is sealed by a PTFE filter membrane of 0.2 µm pore size which form a barrier against bacterial and fungal contamination.

The vent with a knob is adjustable for different ventilation rate to meet the different demands of gas exchange.

APPLICATIONHardening of in vitro raised plants.Plant Tissue Culture has been extensively used for rapid

multiplication of plants in artificial conditions. However, it’s wide spread use is circumvented by the loss of high percentage of plantlets when transferred to ex-vitro conditions. During in vitro conditions, plantlets grow under special conditions in air tight containers under high humidity and heterotrophic mode of nutrition. The use of closed tissue culture containers decrease air turbulences which increase leaf boundary layers and limits the inflow of CO2 and outflow of gases from the containers. The cultivation media are often supplemented with carbohydrates as energy source and growth regulator for multiplication. The addition of carbohydrate decreases the water potential of the medium considerably. These conditions result in the formation of plantlets of abnormal morphology, physiology and anatomy. After transfer from in vitro to the field conditions, plantlets have to correct mentioned abnormalities in a few weeks by acclimatization to the low humidity of natural conditions gradually.

To avoid the failure of plantlets during hardening and to acclimatize plants towards natural climatic conditions, HiMedia Laboratories has introduced Plant Tissue Culture Phyta Jars. Phyta Jars ensure higher percentage of survival of plantlets in natural conditions.

Did You Know?Did You Know?DNA testing and analysis that could take days can be processed in minutes. The Next Generation Sequencing Analysis platform, built on SAP HANA®, dramatically speeds up analysis processes, due to which rapid interpretation of genome variation data is now possible. The key to the solution is the lightning-fast computing power made possible by SAP HANA’s in-memory database. It consolidates and stores comprehensive read assembly data (SAM data) and variant calls with annotation data, which is then accessed through other programs and R scripts for further analysis and reporting.

Embracing Business Success in Real Time with SAP® Business Suite Powered by SAP HANA®

With a focus on accessing business data and executing business operations at lightning speed, HiMedia migrated its SAP® Business Suite applications to the SAP HANA® platform. The company now has excellent insight into production planning as well as tighter control over inventory requirements. These improvements give HiMedia more time to focus on delivering consistent, quality products, driving continued innovation in Biosciences.

With great pride we would like to disclose that HiMedia is the first in Biosciences industry and overall second in Asia to adopt and implement SAP® Business Suite on HANA.
