Dear Parents/Carers,
It is lovely to be back in school, seeing the children enjoying their learning! I would like to say thank you to Mrs Davies for standing in for
me.
This week we have had some issues with parking. The majority of parents/carers do park considerately and within the highway code.
However there are a small number of parents/carers who are parking and not considering local residents, the law and some are also being
disrespectful and verbally abusive to local residents. The incident that happened after school on Wednesday I did report to Kent Police. I am
asking that you do not park on the green under the tree and the emergency access road should not be used for parking which is why we
put out parking cones, these should not be removed. Those parents who park opposite the zig-zag lines if you could make sure that you do not mount the pavement as the public cannot access the pathway and the grass verge is the property of residents not the local council. Please do not park on the junction or corner of Alexander Road it makes crossing
the road extremely difficult and the safety of your children is most important. Make sure that you watch your children; a few children on Thursday were running down the hill and were extremely close to the
road. Teach your children how to cross the road safely.
Thank you for all your contributions towards Harvest and I look forward to seeing you at the service at 14-30pm in the school hall.
Have a lovely weekend
Ms Oliver Headteacher
Kitchen Refurbishment? An unusual request I know, but is anyone currently having a kitchen refurbishment or do you have a kitchen wall unit that they no longer need? Our Ladybirds class is looking for a wall unit for storage. If you can help, please let Jo know in the office. Thank you

PTFA - AGM
Dear Parents and Carers
As a group of parents and helpers last year we worked hard to raise funds
for the benefit of all the children. With the funds we raised we managed to
purchase many items to help the school. These included:
Interactive White boards £3900
outside class room learning Habitat area £600
reading books
Scooter Racks
Year 1 outside play area
Busy Ants which is for Maths learning £1200
Hi Vis Jackets for all pupils within school for trips
With the beginning of the School year now in full swing we are planning
our fundraising events for this year. If you are interested in joining us or
just being a helper please contacts us on [email protected].
Without your help and support we would not be able to run events.
We are holding our AGM on Tuesday 16th
October in the school at 7pm
and we would like to invite as many of you as possible to join us &
therefore to meet you.
Please keep an eye on our notice board by the entrance gates on the car
park side or our Facebook page :- Harrietsham Primary School PTFA
Kind regards
The PTFA team
Governor Update
Please…
We still have three parent governor vacancies that we need to fill.
Are you the person that we are looking for? Can you make a
difference to the school? Can you help the staff and the Governing
Body to continue to lead the school forward? Please consider joining
the Governing Body. If you would like any information or have any
questions that you need answered, please contact Jo in the school
office, Mrs Greasley in year 2 or Mrs Davies.
Flu Vaccination You will have received an invitation and consent form via your child regarding the nasal flu vaccination. The nursing team will be collecting these consent forms on the afternoon of Friday 19th October. Please ensure that they are returned prior to this date.
Competition
Dangerous parking, as you know, is becoming an issue so we are delighted that Harrietsham Parish Council has decided to run an exciting
competition to help us with this.
What does your child need to do?
Draw or paint a poster to encourage safe parking.
The poster may/may not have words- that’s your child's choice. If words are a part of the design these need to be few and clear.
The poster needs to be colourful so if your child is drawing, felt pens are better than pencil crayons since they're bolder; similarly ready-mix paints
are generally better than watercolours.
The winning design will be transferred onto a large banner to be displayed on our border fence.
The design MUST be on white A3 paper of weight 100mgs or more; each Class Teacher has a supply of suitable paper so if your child wants to enter
the competition then please collect the paper from your child's Class Teacher at the end of the school day.
Your child's name and class must be written in pencil on the back of their piece of artwork.
Closing date: Friday 9th November
With many thanks to Harriestham Parish Council.
Secondary School Applications
Just as a reminder, applications for secondary schools close on October 31st 2018 for the children due to start in September 2019. Please ensure you complete your registration either online at
https://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children or alternatively by post. Please contact the school office if you have any questions or need assistance.
Trip Contributions
As a school we are fully committed to providing a stimulating and fun
curriculum; one way in which we enhance your children’s learning is by
going on educational trips and visits giving the children experiences
which we cannot provide on-site. We have run several trips / visits
recently and we are noticing an increase in the number of people not
returning consent forms or offering contributions. In order for it to
be fair to all, the cost of the trip is divided equally amongst the
number of pupils in the class. Unfortunately, as a school, we are not in
the financial situation to be able to subsidise these trips. We do
offer a trip account to help you spread the cost, if this helps. Please
do make an appointment with Mrs Davies or Mrs Williams if you would
like to arrange a trip account or discuss payment options. If this
trend continues, we will not be able to offer educational visits or
trips.
Thank you.
Time Tables Workshops for Parents
Times tables are an important part of the maths curriculum as they are used in so many different areas of maths as children
progress through the year groups.
Come along on Tuesday 27th November at 6pm to find out the different strategies we use to teach times tables in school, how
pupils can practise at home and how you can support them in their learning and make times tables fun.
If you are able to attend Mrs Tanner's workshop, please sign up in the office.
School Photograph
Matthew Walker Photography will be visiting us on Tuesday 16th
October to take individual and sibling photographs. These will take
place during school time BUT please do ensure that we have received
the signed consent form.
If you have a child of pre school age and wish to have a photograph
taken with their sibling, Matthew will be here from 8.15am. Please
come into the office.
12th to 16th of November will
be Children in Need fundraising week. The SAS are busy thinking of
ideas of how to raise money for those children who are less
fortunate in our society. Please keep your eyes peeled for some
exciting activities and keep the dates in your diaries!
SAS (School Action Squad) & Miss A O’ Neill (Fundraising co-ordinator)
MIND Mental Health Awareness Training
We would like to invite you to Mental Health Awareness training provided
by the mental health charity, MIND. The training will take place on
Monday 12th
November from 9.30am until 11.30am. It will include a
variety of activities and a range of information on areas within mental
health, including, anxiety, depression and wellbeing. Places for the
training will be available on a first come, first served basis as we do have a
limit on how many people can attend. If you would like to secure a place
please speak to a member of staff in the office or email the office.
Plea
‘’On 11 November 2018, 100 years since Armistice, bells will ring out in unison from churches and
cathedrals in villages, towns and cities across the country.’’
As part of our celebrations marking the Centenary of the end of the
First World War, we will be decorating the school with garlands of
large poppies.
To make the centre of each poppy, we are going to use plastic milk
bottle lids and we will need one for each child in the school. Please
could you save your milk bottle lids and bring them, ready washed and
dry, to school by Friday 19th October.
Class teachers may also be contacting you separately
asking for parental help to cut the tissue petals
nearer the time.
Parents’ Evening
Well done to those of you who picked up the deliberate mistake!!
Parents’ Evenings are on Wednesday 7th
November from 3.30pm –
7.00pm and on Thursday 8th
November from 3.30pm – 5.30pm
Year R and 6 Height and Weight Measurement
The nursing team will be in school on the afternoon of Monday 29th October.
We have had an issue with the letter that they requested to be sent out. Unfortunately the links do not appear to work. If you are happy for your child to take part then you do not need to do anything. If you wish for your child to be withdrawn from the height and weight measurement, please contact the NHS on [email protected] or 0300 123 4496. Please also let the school office know so that this can be confirmed on the day.
Thank you
Dates for Your Diary
We would like to invite you in for an afternoon of creativity with your
child’s class. On Fridays in term 3, we have put dates for each class into
the diary to come in from 1.30 and join in with a creative activity planned
by the teachers. At 2.40, the children will go to Celebration Worship and
we’d love you to join them there! We hope that many of you will be able to
come along.

ordering an English study guide to support your child’s learning?
There is a sample copy of a guide, which we are able to purchase for the
discounted price of £2.50, in the school office. Please pop in to place

Monday 15th

Meet The Governors
Each week, we'll be introducing one of our governors alongside a lovely picture painted by our talented, budding artists in Ladybirds and
Butterflies. A photograph will be available after 16th October if you wish to compare likenesses. This week, we are starting with our
Chair of Governors, Mrs Katherin Daking.
‘Being a governor has brought me into contact with the staff and children
at the school which is both enjoyable and rewarding. I often go into Collective Worship as well as attending other school activities. Now I have been elected Chairman I hope to continue this and also get to know more
of the parents.’
