School Council Message – David Lee
A call for help
Hello Mt View Community,
Hope you've been enjoying the warm weather this week! You may remember in the last newsletter I mentioned the importance of how we all play a part in building this wonderful community around us.
On a less positive note, one thing I find particularly concerning is how there have been many communications around the importance of road safety around pick-up and drop-off points. Yet, it is far too common to witness (and hear from other parents) episodes of reckless driving and near-misses.
I can appreciate that the size of the school can make the traffic flow less than ideal.
I also understand that we all have extremely busy lives, with many appointments throughout the day.
However, please think about whether those extra few minutes you may save by doing things like U-turns on Shepherds Rd, rushing to get out of Lori Place, or driving > 40km/h is worth endangering the lives of our children, parents and staff of Mt View.
It is not solely the staff member on duty's responsibility to "police" this dangerous driving, it is up to each and everyone one of us to care for each other's wellbeing.
We all know sometimes our children don't always stop to wait and look to see if a car is coming in or out. All it takes is one of these accidents to happen and lives are changed forever - how would that impact our family life?
I urge everyone to please put the safety of our children first and foremost - this is within our control and we must hold each other accountable for this!

Mount View PS International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) Exhibition
Last night, our Year 6 students were involved in the Mount View Exhibition. This was the culmination of all their learning across their 7 years of primary school education. This year the students have been investigating enduring understandings aligned directly to the PYP Transdisciplinary Theme of “Where We Are in Place and Time”. This theme proves students with the opportunity to inquire into a specific aspect relating to “. . . orientation in place and
time; personal histories; homes and journeys; the discoveries, explorations and migrations of humankind; the relationships between and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilizations, from local and global perspectives.” (IBO, 2009).
Each team of students created an enduring understanding and explored relevant lines of inquiry. They have followed an inquiry model to wonder, inquire, investigate, gather information, critically analyse information, reflect on their findings and consider actions that would stem from their learning. Here are just some of the diverse investigations shared at Exhibition:

District Athletics
On the 3rd September 105 students represented Mount View PS at the District Athletics
Carnival. It was a very successful day! Many students achieved their personal best and
it was fantastic to watch the way our students conducted themselves as athletes.
Special mention goes to the 11 year old girls relay team who won by a convincing margin
in the 4x100m. Another highlight of the day was Vaibhav’s 130cm high jump and his calm
and humble attitude throughout the duration of his event. Congratulations to the 43
students who will progress to the Division Athletics Championships in the first week of
term 4. We are excited to announce that Vaibhav and Saskia are the 2018 Athletics
Captains.
Well done everyone!

JSC Footy Raffle and Footy Colours Day
On the last day of this term students
are encouraged to come dressed in the
colours of their footy team or in the
colours of any other sporting team they
support. No gold coin donation is
required as JSC will be making a
donation on behalf of the school. There
will be a footy raffle drawn on the last
day of term and raffle tickets will be sold from Tuesday 18th September. The
cost is 50c for 1 ticket or $1 for 3 tickets. The 4 prizes are a soccer ball, footy
ball, basketball and netball.
Farmer Fun Days
What an absolutely amazing time we’ve had on both our Farmer Fun
days! Our student leaders and JSC reps did a wonderful job
running activities that were exciting and inclusive over the two
days. Some of these were: pin the tail on the donkey, three legged
race, egg and spoon race, sack race and many others. Thank you to
all the students, staff and parent community for supporting this great cause and
for contributing money. JSC matched the amount raised over the two days and
the staff contributions and we ended up raising a total amount of $2652.50.
This will be donated to ‘Rural Aid’ who is running the campaign
