MBA Program (2019-21) at SOB took off on July 25 with an exciting 3 Day Induction Program. Chief Guest of the program, Debjani Roy, ex-Chief Peoples Officer, SRL Diagnostics (a FORTIS Group Company) addressed the batch and urged them to be fearless & chalk out their own future. She said that India of today is full of opportunities and there is a space for every kind of talent - one has to know and understand self and check out how does she want to make a mark in life. Debjani drew examples from her personal life to demonstrate that if one has the drive to achieve something, she can achieve that despite all odds. While Debjani was physically present on the campus, all others logged in through video conferencing (Skype) from wherever they were ? Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, California. The students realized that geography is no longer a constraint with advent of technology. The students ? just two days into the system ? were seen gaining in confidence with every passing session. They gradually came out of their shell, asked lot of meaningful questions to all the speakers ? made every session highly interactive ? resulting in every speaker pledging all their support to mentor these students during their MBA journey in whatever possible way. Induction Program for the undergraduate students ? BBA, B.Com, BA (H) Economics and Dual Degree BBA + MBA ? also took off in parallel. This program was much more action and activity-driven ? Know Your Campus; Talent Hunt; presentation on inspiring personalities; address on Indian ethos and values, plan beyond UG, workshop on communication & career building, etc. They were also addressed by Kunal Kundu, Indian Economist, Societie Generale on Indian economy and career opportunities going forward. The session was organized for all the UG and PG students of SMS on August 22, 2019. Mr. Karan Kapoor, the Honorable Chief Guest, started with providing an insight of the history and present conditions of the Stock market. He explained how and why the whole system has changed nowadays. Then he talked about the six ways of investing our money wisely so that minimum risk is associated with our investment which are Gold, Insurance, Real estate, Banking products like Fixed Deposits, Mutual Funds and finally Stock market products

like Shares, Debentures, Derivatives, Currency and Commodities. While discussing about the avenues, he presented both the advantages as well as the disadvantages related to each one and finally considered investing in shares as the best as well as the safest option. During the whole discussion, he was constantly interacting with the students and the faculty present there which made the session even more interesting. It was followed by a Q&A session. At the end, we can say that the workshop was practical, engaging and educational one.

4

Sir, you have joined School of Business about eight months back, are you happy with whatever you have achieved so far?

Yes and No.

I say Yes, because, we have been able to put in place the basic blueprint for SOB of tomorrow. MANAGEMENT, ECONOMICS, COMMERCE are the three pillars of SOB - with BUSINESS being the over-arching theme. However fundamental to all these is women leadership - it is the base of all that we do and will be doing at SOB. We have thus re-defined our credo as ?Nation-building through Women Leadership?. And we strongly believe that developing women leaders not only contributes to the GDP of the nation, but also lays the foundation for development of the next generation and thus results in nothing short of nation-building. We have introduced a core course on Women Leadership in Business in semester I of our MBA Program. We have so far got about 25 very senior women achievers to the classroom ? either physically or through video-conferencing and skype ? to share with our students their corporate journey so far. And ? we have also been able to win the unconditional support of 30 top professionals from academics and industry ? who have come on board with us ? through our Board of Studies, Industry Advisory Committee and Center for Women Leadership ? on a pro bono basis ? to inspire, motivate, support and guide us in our journey of developing women leadership and contribute to nation building.

I say No, because, there is so much more to do! We have brought in a fair amount of innovation in our MBA program ? by having a WOMEN-ONLY MBA which is already a bit different from the regular MBA being delivered by most other B-Schools, including the IIMs. We need to reach out to both, industry as well as the student community and communicate this. We must get recognized as the leading WOMEN-ONLY B-School of the country. We have quite a long way to go in this area. We need to reach out to our alumni, and start tracking their career movements ? many of them I am sure are doing so well and have their inspiring stories to share with our

current students. We need to communicate the benefits of our Dual Degree (BBA ? MBA) program which I strongly believe is a great program especially for those students who want to get into academics as

a career. We would like to attract more and more practitioners to our PhD program ? who are senior industry executives. We need to develop our various Centers of Excellence and show tangible output in the foreseeable future.

Overall, I will say I am happy - it has not been a AAA performance, but definitely a AA!

What are the three major areas that are your primary focus right now?

- Instilling a sense of belief in our

students that they are second to

none;

- Increasing industry linkage;

- Enhancing internationalization

initiatives.

5 MINUTES WITH THE DEAN...

These are currently the three top priority areas for me.

Could you please tell us more about the Special Interest Groups that you have introduced in the school?

Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are small groups of students who may have interest in certain niche areas ? which cannot be supported in the form of a Center of Excellence ? but still we would love to encourage and support and nurture.

- Industry 4.0;

- Sports Management;

- Business Analysis;

- Healthcare Management;

- Infrastructure Management;

- Performing & Visual Arts;

- The Third Sector

These are seven such SIGs which we are currently encouraging and supporting.

As SOB students come to know more and more about these SIGs, I am sure interest in some or all of them will be growing in the coming days.

Dr. Anirban Sengupta, Dean, School of Business

"...we strongly believe that developing women leaders not only contributes to the GDP of the nation but also

lays the foundation for development of the next

generation..."

JANMASHTAMI CELEBRATIONSBY: KSHIPRA BHANDARI

Janmashtami was on 24th of August and the students of SOB planned a great deal to celebrate the festival with each other in the college itself. The function started off with an introductory presentation detailing how the celebration of Janmashtami came to be and how different parts of India celebrate it in their own style.

Next, Dr. Anirban Sengupta, Dean, School of Business, addressed the students for a litt le while before the performances started. The audience was a big fan of the several dance performances throughout the event. A musical depicting the life of Lord Krishna ? from his birth to his vengeance from the ruler of Mathura, Kans ? was also organised, which gathered a lot

of applause and a few too many hoots from the audience as well. The anchors also conducted a round of trivia and fun questions to sustain the event?s light-hearted essence. To keep with tradition, an aarti was held with prasad distribution at the end of the service.

The celebration was brought to a close with a traditional ?Matki Fod? competition with 6 teams battling over the winning spot by achieving the least time in which the handi is broken. The winning team was awarded a statue of Krishna along with the cheers of the audience. This event was highly praised by the faculty and students alike, and our Dean lauded the programme too.

SUMMER INTERNS RETURNING FROM CARLETON UNIVERSITY, USA

School of Business (SOB), Mody University (MU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Graham School of Management, Saint Xavier University (SXU), Chicago, USA on March 12, 2019. With the MoU was signed by Registrar Dr. Vinod Purohit on behalf of Mody University, and Prof. Indranil Ghosh, Associate Professor & Chair, Division of Accounting and Finance, Graham School of Management, SXU- in the presence of various senior officials of Mody University including Prof. M. Venu Gopala Rao, Director Academics; Dr. Anirban Sengupta, Dean, School of Business; Prof. R.K. Shivpuri, Director, International Relations and a number of senior faculty members of School of Business.

The two schools have agreed to have student exchange for both short term and also for a semester. They will also explore possibilit ies of faculty exchange. Joint research at the level of both faculty and students will be undertaken from either side - with a special focus on the areas of cross-cultural issues, economic issues, women?s leadership issues, and hospitality and tourism related issues. The details of students exchange program for MBA as well as undergraduate students have also been worked out. The identification of semester wise courses, which the students of School of Business, Mody University will be pursuing at Graham School of Management, Xavier University, Chicago have also been agreed upon and finalized.

Three students of SOB ? Sanreet Kaur Bhullar, Mahek Bhandari, and Ayushi Sisodia, of B.Com.(H) II Year ? went to Carleton University, Canada for their summer internships.

Sanreet had this to say about the trip, ?The summer program has been an eye opening, culturally enriching experience. The most valuable thing that I?m going to bring back with me on campus is an informed perspective. Having lived a new culture, with unique traditions and interesting experiences, I feel like my perspective has been broadened.

I?ve expanded my knowledge of business strategies (Business Model Canvas), international business, (International buyer behaviour, International Market), Business across Cultures, Globalisation, Ethics and Psychology of

Decision-Making, International Negotiating and Entrepreneurship in ways I also never would have expected. Much of my work was my own decision- the internship is so flexible and free-form that you get to decide which startups and which projects you can work at. At multiple times in the internship I found myself working in different projects, all incredibly different and all great ways for me to learn. I have worked on Entrepreneurship Case Study which included business model Canvas, SWOT template and PESTEL.

My Experience with Professor Micheal Weatherhead, Neil Williams and teacher Marie Josse Levesque were unforgettable. Many thanks to all the people from Carleton University and Mody University for organising this program.?

TALENT HUNT

Aakhon main kajal laganey ke baad Maa zyaada nahin, kajal aur khoobsurat ho jaata hai,

Maathe par bindiya laganey se Maa aur zyaada nahin, bindiya zyaada pyaari lagne lagti hai,

Purey ghar ki chinta unki har saans mai sunleti hoon,

Papa ki chai, bachho ka tiffin tayyar karne main khudki bhookh ko bhula bethti hain vo,

Aakhir kya karey Maa hai hi aisi, har roz ek muskurahat pehenengi vo aur humey khudka chota sa ghum na batayengi vo,

Batuye main rupay bhaley hi kitne bhi ho, shauk pehle mere poore karke hi khush ho jaati hain vo,

Andhere se chaahe khud bhi darti ho, par mujhe humesha hausla deti hain vo,

Apne khwaabon ki tijori par taala lagaaye bethi, meri manzil ki dua karti hain vo,

Darr kar bachpan main Maa ka dupatta main kasske pakad leti thi,

Darr kar iss duniya se Maa ke saaye main khudko samait leti thi,

Abb Maa tera sahaaraa main banungi, galti chaahe aap karo, daant bhi main sun lungi,

Bhookha khudko rakh kar niwala pehle tumhe dungi, kyunki Maa duniya toh sab dekhna chahte hain, par meri duniya toh tujh main hi simti hai Maa, tujh main hi basti hain meri khushiyaan Maa...
