Our school athletics day is fast approaching. This will be held at the Moonee Valley Athletics track on Wednesday 31st May. Notes were sent home yesterday. We need par-ent helpers on the day so if you are free for a few hours please put your name down on the list outside the office. Thank-you in advance for your assistance! National Simultaneous Story time is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. Today as part of the National Simultaneous Story-time, all Foundation to Year 4 students will be reading the book “The Cow Tripped Over the Moon” by Tony Wilson and Laura Wood together in the Multi-Purpose Room.
World Environment Day—- 5th June Coming up in week 8 the Green Team will be running a fundraiser for World Environment Day. On Monday 5th June, students are invited to wear green and donate a gold coin. There will be special activities and green goodies available at lunchtime. Look out for a letter coming home in the next week with further information. Working Bee Our next working bee will be held at school this Sunday the 28th May at 10am. The job list is quite long and we would love to see you there to assist with ensuring our school grounds are in great condition. If available, parents attend-ing are encouraged to bring garden utensils and a wheel barrow labelled with you family name. Alternatively, families can opt to contribute to the Working Bee Levy ($50 per family) through Liz in the office.
Cross Country Well done to all the 27 students that competed in the Dis-trict Cross Country event. Everyone ran their hearts out and did themselves and MPPS proud. Thank you also to Candice Ryan and Libby Haigh for their organisation and support on the day. Congratulations to the students who have pro-gressed to the combined division cross country at Brimbank Park on Tuesday 6th June: Aiden Davis, James Barnard, Toby Griggs, Bridget Mulhulka, Charlotte Ristig, Anna Campbell and Ty Davis. We wish all seven students good luck for the race.

PRINCIPAL REPORT

Supervision before and after school A reminder to parents that students should not be arriving at school until supervision begins at 8.45am in the morning. If you need to drop your children off at school earlier than this time, they should be attending the Out of School Hours Care program run by the YMCA. After-school supervision is provided until 3.35pm. At this time, a second bell signals the end of su-pervision by the school. Any students not collected by their parents by 3:35pm will be di-rected to wait at the office until their parent arrives. I appreciate your support with adhering to these times. Prep/ Foundation Enrolments and School Tours Rebecca and I have been conducting school tours for prospective Prep/Foundation enrol-ments. If you have a sibling of school age please see Kaye to obtain an enrolment form as soon as possible. As part of the enrolment pack, parents receive the MPPS 2017 Family Hand-book. A copy has been placed on the school website and is available for our community to access. http://www.mpp.vic.edu.au/our-school/community/ .
Drop Off Zone While our drop off zone in the morning is working reasonably well, we are still having some parents putting their safety and the safety of our students at risk particularly in the afternoon during pick-up time. The drop off zone is installed, monitored and policed by the Moonee Valley City Council (MVCC). They are regularly patrolling to ensure everyone is safe around the school and the rules are followed. Please note Bec and I are regularly out there too, this is to monitor the students and remind parents of the rules if needed. Could all members of the community please ensure that they are using the designated crossings on Bent and Wilson streets when accessing the school grounds; please ensure children do not cross in the drop off zone or between cars.
Some major points that I encourage parents to adhere to, include: Drivers MUST remain in the vehicle at all times (this means NOT getting out of the car-
say your good byes to your children before you get to school) Students should always use the door on the foot path side (Students should also have
their bag close by ready to hop out unassisted) Do NOT undertake a U-turn in Bent St and do not reverse park into the zone (please
complete a lap around the school) In the afternoons, please: Do NOT wait in the zone for more than 2 minutes. If your child is not waiting for you
complete another lap of the school until they arrive waiting for you at the zone. Waiting to leave home a bit later (after 3.20pm) or informing you child/ren to come straight to the waiting area will help ensure your child is at the zone waiting to be picked up.
If the drop off zone is full, please do another lap of the school and DO NOT block cars in Bent St.
You cannot park in the Drop Off Zone between 3-4pm (and 8-9.30am), during this time it is a no standing area and you can be fined.
Ensure you speak with your child to make sure they are waiting on the footpath (next to the crossing lady) ready to be picked up.
The Moonee Ponds Police have been contacted and will be monitoring cars around the school to ensure the safety of our students and families. Please also ensure when parking around the school and neighbourhood you do not park across driveways and obey all parking laws. I have again included the information provided by MVCC regarding the Drop Off Zone for your information.

On Tuesday 9th May, the MPPS Prep students, along with other members of the Moonee Val-
ley community, were invited to the Doutta Galla Aged Care facility to celebrate the contribu-
tion they have made to the community, by regularly visiting the elderly residents there. The
prep students began visiting in 2016 and this has successfully continued into 2017. Each week,
from term 2 onwards, the prep classes take it in turns to walk together to the Doutta Galla
and spend some quality time reading, singing and chatting with the residents. The experience
has been a huge success and highly enjoyable for everyone involved. The preps especially
have loved sharing their favourite poems and songs! MPPS was represented at the ceremony
by current prep students, Phoebe Dodds, Harry Elliot and Oliver McRae, who received a cer-
tificate of appreciation from the mayor of the Moonee Valley, Cr Andrea Surace.
