From the Principal . . . . . . . . . . . Good news! The new demountable is coming this week and should be all hooked up and ready to go by
the end of next week. Mrs Warren and 3/4 Matisse will be very thankful to have a brand new learning
space to call their own.
Our new bell and PA system has been installed, and despite a few teething problems of making sure the
bells and music all line up, it has been a great success. All classrooms now have speakers and we have the
capability to make announcements from the office. This will be a bonus for when we have to call indoor
play for wet weather or extreme heat and when conducting lock-down drills.
The COLA in the K-2 area is still under construction and I am hopeful that that they will be back on site to
construct the framework over the next couple of weeks.
The issue of parking has been raised, as it is at the beginning of every school year. The reality is that far
more families drive their children to school these days than in times gone by and we also live in a growth
area of Western Sydney. We are fortunate that we are not on a busy road, or a corner, or have completely
restricted parking on Seventh Ave. Please take care when parking and moving your car around our
children, stick to speed zones and acknowledge restriction of parking areas. The IGA and produce store
parking areas are for customers and deliveries only – so please adhere to this.
If your child is eligible for bus travel, it would be helpful for you to apply for an OPAL card, even if you
don’t think you’ll use it every day. The bus company can only put on extra buses and routes if they have
evidence that it is needed. They do this through applications and the amount of children tapping on and
off. So, if your child is catching a bus that is quite full, but only half of the children are tapping their cards,
there is no evidence that an additional bus is needed.
It was great to see so many of our families here last Tuesday sharing a sausage or two and chatting with
the teachers. There were information flyers to take home. If you were unable to come or you did not pick
up the flyer, please let the class teacher know so that one can be sent home.
Our swimming carnival went well last week and an exhausted bunch of teachers and students reported
that they had a great time. Congratulations to those that did their personal best on the day. A group of
students who qualified for the next level will attend the district carnival to be held at Ripples on
6th March.
We love our volunteers and really appreciate the time you give to assist in the education of our students.
If you are volunteering at school for any reason, you must fill out the Working With Children Check
(WWCC) volunteer form. This has to be done every year. So even if
you filled out one last year, we will need an updated form for 2018.
There is no cost involved for this and you do not have to apply for a
number. We do, however, require 100 points of ID. Please call in at
the office and fill out a form as soon as you can.
Yours in learning
Deborah Getley
Are you able to help us? We are looking for
volunteers to be trained in administering the Multi
Lit Reading Tutor Program. Volunteers would need to
be able to commit to volunteering for approximately
45 minutes, three times a week. If you are interested
in helping to improve student literacy outcomes,
please speak with Mrs Waugh.
We are collecting the Sports for
Schools vouchers from Coles. For
every $10 you spend at Coles, you
will receive a voucher. You can hand
these into the front office.
