From the Principal’s Desk

Dear LCS Family,

I commend both students and staff on an outstanding start to the 2016 Academic Year!

We extend an extra special welcome to those new students and staff who joined our school community this week. Almost all year levels have received additional enrolments for this year. We consider it a privilege to be entrusted with partnering with you in the education of your child. Our prayer is that every student at Lighthouse Christian School will develop so as to see 1 Timothy 4:12 in action.

“Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in

purity.”

During our Pupil Free Week, entitled Intentional Excellence, school staff engaged in a series of focused professional development sessions which honed in on school priorities and enabled us to further progress our school motto, “Committed to Excellence in Christian Education.”

From this motto, and from our study of best practice in high performing schools, we have developed twelve commitments to the Lighthouse Christian School Community.

These twelve commitments provide us with a strong and effective framework with which to further develop and advance as we commence our 23rd year of providing a high quality and affordable Christian Education option for the Rockhampton Community.

Remember, should you have any concern or query regarding any school related matter, please do not hesitate to contact us at the school.

In Christ,

Blair HarpPrincipal

Staff Professional DevelopmentWell before the first bell rang on day one, school staff spent many hours in training and workshop sessions, further developing their expertise in curriculum, pedagogical and safety training. The theme of the training week was “Intentional Excellence” and focused in on developing staff capability across the 12 LCS Community Commitments. Each day commenced in Praise and Worship, followed by a daily word from Pastor Bakss and Pastor Buchholz. We welcomed back from Brisbane, Education Advisor Ngaire Tagney who worked with primary and secondary staff in higher order thinking research and development.

Health Alert

Weekly Parades and Chapel ServicesThree times a week our students attend morning parades and chapel services where we engage in praise and worship and hear different speakers present relevant messages from the Word. In this first week we started our school year off with powerful songs such as ‘My Lighthouse’ and this year’s theme song, ‘Anchor’. Special thanks go out to the students and staff involved in preparing songs that minister to the hearts of the Lighthouse community. We look forward to seeing a culture of genuine worship developed in our school this year.

Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.PSALM 150:6

On the 18th of January flashing light school zone signs were installed on Norman Road.

Lighthouse Christian School was nominated to receive these new signs as part of a Queensland Government commitment to improve school road safety.

You will notice that the new signs look similar to standard school zone signs with the addition of a red flashing ring around the speed limit as well as two flashing yellow lights at the top of the sign. The installation of flashing light school zone signs is proven to

improve visibility of school zones, serving as an active reminder for motorists to slow down.

So next time you’re dropping off or picking up your child, keep an eye out for the new signs and make sure you stick to the signed speed limit.

National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence

The sixth National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence is being held on Friday, 18 March 2016.

This year our school and thousands of others across the country are taking a stand

together against bullying and violence in schools, the classroom and beyond.

You can ‘like’ the National Day of Action Facebook page to keep up to date with the latest news and information about the day.

Student AllergiesThere are children enrolled in our school with severe allergies, especially in the lower primary (Prep-3) age groups. While our school does not advertise itself to be an allergy free school we would respectfully ask, for the safety of the children involved, that seafood, eggs and any nut products (including Nutella) be avoided in lunch boxes.

We have had a number of cars not observing the traffic flow the last few weeks. Cars shall enter the campus via first row of carpark and exit only via the second row. Please continue to observe this practice throughout the year.

Traffic Flow

When entering the school please observe the speed limit at the front of the property and the flow of traffic to limit confusion in the car parks. Please do not park in the first row of parks, instead utilising those under the trees and ensuring that you walk your children to and from the church building and across the road.

Administration Parking

Parking outside administration is specifically for administration staff. It is not a drop off area. Due to deliveries, accidents last year and a number of close calls when students ran out in front of cars, we do not allow anyone else to park in this area at any time.
