From today onwards, all interested stakeholders have the opportunity to provide their input on the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda. And that were not the only activities of the Platform and its members. This newsletter highlights a number of recent developments: - Horizon Europe, a co-programmed partnership zero-emission waterborne transport; - Update on Blue Growth and the Implementation Review Group; - New members joining the Waterborne TP; - First call for Proposals Innovation Fund. Co-programmed partnership zero-emission waterborne transport - Open Consultation launch The Waterborne TP is currently preparing a series of documents in preparation of the final selection of the Partnership. As a first step, the formal Proposal for the Partnership has been submitted to the European Commission on 27 May 2020. The Proposal lays down the challenge, scope, objectives, commitments and expected impact of the Partnership. Based on the Proposal, a first draft of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) of the Partnership has been developed. From today onwards, all interested stakeholders have the opportunity to contribute to the finalisation of this first SRIA, by providing input to the open consultation. The consultation is open for a period of 4 weeks, following which the SRIA will be finalised by the end of August. The Partnership will kick-off beginning of 2021, however the exact timing is depending on the finalisation of the MFF negotiations. A major outstanding issue is the budget for Horizon Europe and thereby the budget forwaterborne related research and innovation It is thereby essential that we all convince ournational administrations that the budget for Horizon Europe should be a priority and essential fordeveloping solutions to realise zero-emission waterborne transport to the benefit of futuregenerations

New Acting Chairman IRAG Blue GrowthMr Lockhart Chairman of the IRAG Blue Growth resigned from GICAN in February 2020 Forthis reason Mr Lockhart is no longer the chairman of the IRAG Blue Growth and consequentlythe Waterborne TP had a vacancy for the Chairmanship of the IRAG Blue Growth During itsregular Board Meeting on 21 April 2020 the Board unanimously approved the proposal tonominate Mr Emilio Campana acting as vice-chair of the IRAG as acting chairman until thenext General Assembly Mr Campana is the Head of Engineering ICT Energy and TransportDepartment Italian National Research Council In addition Mr Campana is the Italian nationalrepresenative in the JPI Healthy and Productive Seas and Oceans as well as the coordinator ofthe Scientific Committee of the National Technology Cluster of the Blue Growth a nationalalliance promoted by the government The Board warmly welcomes the devotion of MrCampana to bring the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for Blue Growth Activities tothe next level

Implementation Review Group During the revival of the Waterborne Technology Platform the istallation of an ImplementationReview Group has been discussed This group will monitor the implementation of projectsundertaken by the members of the Waterborne Technology Platform so as to continuouslyupdate the current state-of-the-art regarding certain technologies During its regular boardmeeting on 21 April 2020 the Board decided to nominate Mr Alessandro Maccari as actingchairman of the Implementation Review Group until the next General Assembly Mr Maccari is a Naval Architect amp Marine Engineer currently Marine Research andDevelopment Director at RINA Services SpA developed professional technical competencesin a variety of design engineering and RampD activities on 60+ passenger ships and merchantships The Board warmly welcomes the devotion of Mr Maccari to define the Terms of Referenceof the Implementation Review Group and to subsequently start its activities

First call for Proposals Innovation FundOn 3 July The European Commission launched the first call for proposals under the InnovationFund one of the worlds largest programmes for the demonstration of innovative low-carbontechnologies financed by revenues from the auction of emission allowances from the EUsEmissions Trading System The Innovation Fund will finance breakthrough technologies forrenewable energy energy-intensive industries energy storage and carbon capture use andstorage It will provide a boost to the green recovery by creating local future-proof jobs pavingthe way to climate neutrality and reinforcing European technological leadership on a globalscale Waterborne transport applications related to the use of renewable energy sources areeligible for funding as well
