Eileen A. Brandt

writes: No words can

express the beauty of

my 91st birthday

card. I enjoyed all the

names that were in-

side. This way, I still

feel close to you all after three years of being in

Fayetteville, North Carolina. Thank you all so

very much and bless you.

Terry Pfenning, Retired Senior Volunteer Pro-

gram volunteer coordinator, writes: Thank you

so much for your wonderful donation of food. It

is greatly appreciated! Your donation will help

assist many families with food. Thank you again!

Chase, Ellen and Gene Snyder want to thank

the congregation for all the prayers, thoughts,

cards food and especially thanks to Pastor Ted

and Pastor Allison for their visits and praying

with the family at the hospital for Chase’s re-

turn to health. Chase is home from the hospital

and getting stronger every day!

The family of Garcile Meyers writes: Thank you

to Pastor Ted Jansen and Pastor Wilbur Yates

for the wonderful funeral service for Garcile

Meyers. Thanks, also, to the United Methodist

Women for the meal that was served after the

funeral. Everything was delicious. The flowers

were beautiful and we thank you for this gener-

ous gift. Last, but not least, thanks to all for the

calls, prayers and cards. They were very com-

forting.

July Worship Highlights Paul and Timothy were used by God to grow the early Church. In July during our 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. services, we are going to focus on the heart connec-tion that they had. On the first four Sundays of July, we will a different chapter of 2 Timothy. It will be a time to do a little summer Bible study.

We end the month of July on July 29 with Vacation Bible School Sunday.

Our new worship offering, Tables, will continue to study conversations with Jesus around various tables during the month of July. Tables begins at 6 p.m. on Sunday evenings and offers a casual, contemporary feel for worship.

Check out the new website! First Church’s website has been redesigned! Check

it out at auburnfirstunited.com. New features

include a news feed, joys and concerns section and

more! It is also more user-friendly and easy to use.

Come check it out!

From The Bishop’s Desk ... Dear Friends at Auburn First UMC:

I am writing you this letter to thank you and your congrega-

tion for your faithful payment of your 2011 tithes and district

askings. According to our records, you are one of 761 church-

es which tithed at or above the 90 percent level. Thank you!

Because of your faithfulness, the budget of the Annual Confer-

ence is supported, our denomination’s shared ministries are

supported and the necessary underpinning has been provided

for all of the additional mission giving, Advance Special, spe-

cial offerings and related efforts which depend upon our con-

nectional structure.

Because of your faithfulness to tithing, a young child was able

to make her first public commitment to Christ through our

camping program, a pastor’s spouse was able to be treated for

a life-threatening disease without experiencing catastrophic

financial drain, and a college student received guidance from a

university chaplain. Along with these ministries, you have ena-

bled your church to be connected to people in need around

the world.

Thank you for your generous giving in the past, and thank you

for your faithfulness this year in meeting your obligations and

opportunities for ministry.

May God continue to bless you with generous hearts and with

abundant resources to share.

Yours in Christ, Bishop Michael J. Coyner

Annual Conference Report Helen and George Wappes attended the Annual Con-

ference of the Indiana United Methodist Church. Here

is their report:

It was the first time for us to attend the Annual Con-

ference in Indianapolis this year, from June 7-9. The

conference theme was “Making Room.” There were

more than 2,000 people registered.

Thursday: The highlight of the Laity Luncheon was

hearing the winner of the manuscript contest

read her essay. Later in the afternoon, we heard

the keynote speakers talking about making room

in ourselves, within our church and within our

community. In between the luncheon and the af-

ternoon session, there was a business session,

pure business. (The majority of the committee

reports were sent before the conference on CD.)

That evening, there was a Service of Remem-

brance and Celebration of Life. They had a seg-

ment where each pastor or spouse who had

passed away this past year was mentioned and

water from a pitcher was poured into a large ves-

sel. It was very impressive instead of lighting a

candle. Don Ruhl was mentioned. The speaker

and praise team did an excellent job.

Friday: The keynote speakers again spoke about

ways to include and energize the congregations to

make room for new ideas and including others,

new and older members. During lunch we heard

from two churches on serving and including the

community around the church. The Conference

also passed a resolution to have the bishop re-

main for four more years. Pastor Ted and Pastor

Allison were reappointed to First Church for an-

other year. In the evening, a Service of Word and

Table was celebrated. We volunteered to help

serve communion. There were 30 stations. Again,

the praise team was involved.

Saturday: There was a Conference and Communi-

ty Prayer Breakfast with Governor Mitch Daniels

as the main speaker. Following breakfast was a

Celebration of Ministry: Commissioning and Ordi-

nation. The service featured organ music, proces-

sional of all the candidates in their robes and the

laying on hand on each. Bishop Coyner gave the

main address and spoke on “But What If.”

We enjoyed attending the conference and would

encourage others to serve in this capacity. It was

very informative and inspirational for us.

Church Doctor Task Force A task force is looking at all the possible action plans.

Task force members are Jerry Garrison, Jeff Turner, Tim Mondor, Lisa Kesse, Allison Yankey, Marilyn Gearhart and Ted Jansen.

The task force has a meeting on Tuesday, July 24 to hear back on all the action plans and will submit them to Dr. Hunter.

These will be shared with the congregation as we move our church to action and seek to fulfill our mission and purpose: “to make disciples.”

Please pray for the Church Doctor Task Force!

The Youth Group has exciting plans for July!

Every Sunday evening, the youth are invited to youth group at 7-8 p.m., after Tables, our

coffeehouse worship service.

Other plans are:

Wednesday, July 11: The youth will eat pizza and watch the movie “Up” from 6-8 p.m.

The cost is $5.

Wednesday, July 25: The Youth will help with Vacation Bible School from 5-8:30 p.m. There is

no cost involved.

If you have any questions, contact Pastor Allison Yankey at [email protected].
