—my how time flies! As we wrap up our Christmas and holiday activities, it’s time to wish all of you a very happy, prosperous and healthy New Year.

As far as our club is con-cerned, we just concluded our very successful Holiday Luncheon in Fountain Hills. Not only was a good time had by all who attended, with good food, good fellowship, and a gorgeous day, but we celebrat-ed the spirit of the holiday by bringing canned goods and Christmas ornaments for dis-tribution to our Vista del Camino “families” as well as toys and gifts for their chil-dren. A big “thank you” to Ed Taschner and Dick Dippold for their Christmas shopping for these six children. And a “great big thank you” to Diane Bennett who put all the pieces of this event together.

Ed Taschner and Frank Hol-man have been visiting the state universities recently, in order to get a better handle on how our scholarship funding is managed and disbursed. You can read elsewhere in this newsletter an article on this matter.

Please disregard my note last month on having two meetings in January and none in Febru-ary. Our originally scheduled speaker that was moved to January 30 has had to cancel, so we have rescheduled our meeting to our regular Wed-nesday, February 6. I hope this does not confuse anybody, but as of now, all of our spring 2013 meetings through May will be on our regularly sched-

uled date—the first Wednes-day of the month.

Again, have a HAPPY NEW YEAR. We’ll start out by meeting on January 2. See you there!

John Lester

This month’s charitable dona-tion went to Arizona Science Center and Phoenix Chrysa-lis Center. Club guidelines dictate that we support local charities exclusively. A list of the charities from which the board chooses donations monthly is posted on the web-site. If you have a favorite charity you would like the club to consider for donations, please bring it to our attention.

Have you moved? If so pro-vide your new address to Diane Bennett in order to continue to get this terrific newsletter et. al.

For those of you who are not aware, the registration enve-lopes are permanent records of your dues payment history. It would be appreciated if you would not deface, cut, or otherwise make them unusable and therefore make it neces-sary to make a new envelope for the records. Also, if there have been no changes in your address, phone number, marital status, or e-mail address, please just print your name and the date and nothing else.

Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated.

We welcome any member who wishes to speak to the meeting

on a topic of general interest. To do so, please contact any Board Member immediately prior to the start of the meeting.

The Club issues new member-ship rosters each year. We ask you to properly destroy (shred) old rosters. This in-formation is provided so that our members may stay in touch with good friends. We do not wish this information to fall in-to the hands of solicitation or-ganizations or worse.

Please remember to wear your badge to meetings and func-tions. It sure helps in remem-bering names. If you have lost your badge, Diane Ben-nett can make you a new one for a $2.00 charge.

Reminder - we no longer charge dues for the spouse of couples who are both retirees from AiResearch/ Garrett/ Al-liedSignal/ Honeywell.

Our monthly meetings are held at the Scottsdale Senior Center, 1700 N. Granite Reef, (just north of Mc-Dowell). The meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month, September - May, except for December – our Holiday Luncheon. Our social hour begins at 1:00 pm, club business is conduct-ed at 1:45 pm, the presenta-tion starts at 2:00 pm and adjournment is at 3:00 pm.

Board meetings will no longer be held prior to the regular meeting. However, we do welcome your input. Please contact any board member or send the editor any items that

When my grandson Billy and I entered our vacation cabin, we kept the lights off until we were inside to keep from at-tracting pesky insects. Still, a few fireflies followed us in.

Noticing them before I did, Billy whispered, "It's no use Grandpa. Now the mosquitoes are coming after us with flash-lights."
