Firstly; the Government ’talk’ on changes to education in NZ. Theses changes to the Education Act that impact on funding, staffing, resourcing and school programme context and delivery, this covers early childhood through to secondary school, you as parents/caregivers need to be aware of and seek more information about what comes out in the news. For the first time in approximately 20 years the Primary and Secondary School Teachers Union will be holding a stop work meeting to hear about the proposals being discussed by the Government. The Northland Schools meeting is on 16 September in Whangarei, for our staff to attend our BOT is asking that students be picked up and taken home at 12:30 as we will not have enough teachers to safely staff the school. Secondly; it’s about communication with school. If you have a problem, come in to school and talk with the teachers and find out what’s really happening, or happened and the reasons why? Facebook discussions, very often are ill informed, leading towards personal defamation, putdowns and disrespect towards teachers. DPS teachers and staff promote values of Respect, Responsibility and co- operation. I would like to think, my staff should be given opportunities to explain their actions and reasons in a one to one personal approach. Public forums are not the right place, it only serves to damage the reputation of our school. JUMP JAM 4 STAR JAM Last week the whole school was involved in this fundraiser, by skipping to music for 30 minutes. The event raised $340 for Star Jam Charitable Trust, which supports young people with disabilities. WEEKLY FOCUS The value of co-operation will be our focus for the next few weeks. We will be looking at how we relate and work with one another, how we talk to, use our manners and offer encouragement towards others. DPS GOLD AWARDS Gold awards are awarded to students who have received 3 certificates at assemblies throughout the year. Certificates are awarded to students for effort and achievement or putting into practices our school values. To get a gold award is a great achievement, the first one for the year will be given out at our next assembly. BODY JAM The Northern Wairoa event was held recently. We had a large group of senior and middle syndicate students taking part. The students put a lot of effort in to preparing and performing their 2 minute dance routine to music.
