The festive season is now
in full swing and we are
reaching the end of 2019.
It’s now over two years
that the department has
been merged and
supporting the whole of
the Northern Care
Alliance. Our collective
achievements are there
for us all to see, including
in November the
department being
accredited at Level 2
against the National
Procurement Standards.
It will soon be 2020 so whilst
taking the time now to enjoy
the festivities we must also
maintain our focus by
delivering our Better Care at
Lower Cost target, our capital
programme by procuring the
vital equipment which
supports patient care as well
as build on the developments
within our standardisation of
catalogues with the
eProcurement system and the
end to end Logistics service for
our Care Organisations.
I was glad to see so many of
you at this year’s NCA Finance
& Procurement Awards where
we celebrated the success of

Level 2 Procurement Standards Accreditation
We are excited to
announce that the
Northern Care Alliance
NHS Group has
successfully been
accredited at Level 2 -
Towards Excellence of the
Procurement Standards.
This is a significant
achievement not just for
the department but also
the wider organisation.
This recognition further
reinforces the vital
contribution the
Procurement
Department makes to the
NCA’s strategic objectives
and ultimately better
patient care.
The Procurement Standards is
a national programme
introduced in May 2012 to
support the recommendations
from the Public Accounts
Committee by providing a
clear vision of good NHS
procurement. Accreditation
status counts towards the
Trust’s placing in the national
league tables.
Level 2 means that the
organisation has demonstrated
‘strong procurement
performance’ and is ‘making
good, strong progress’. In
order to achieve this the
department needed to collate a
wide range of evidence in
order to meet the tough
criteria. An assessment day
then took place where the
evidence was presented to
assessors and members of the
Procurement and Finance
Teams were then interviewed.
The announcement of our
success came at the regional
Procurement Skills
Development meeting in
Haydock which took place on
the 19th November 2019.
Ian Moston (Group Chief
Finance Officer) said:
“Congratulations to all the staff
in the department. This is a
tremendous testimony to their
collective hard work.”
“ This is a
significant
achievement not
just for the
department but
also the wider
organisation ”
Well done to Andrew
Burns (Senior Buyer)
who has won the 2020
Intersurgical Calendar
Photo Competition.
The theme of the calendar for
2020 is ‘a breath of fresh air’. As
the overall winner with his
photograph ‘Wind Farm’
Andrew won £500 for a charity
of his choice. He has decided to
donate the money to the
Teenage Cancer Trust.
Opposite you can see the

Andrew!

Renal Supplier Day
The NCA Procurement
Department working in
partnership with Renal
Services arranged a
Renal Supplier Day
where suppliers
exhibited equipment for
staff to view and allow
them to gain a better
understanding of what is
available on the market.
The event took place on 27th
November 2019, in the Mayo
Building at the Salford site. The
day gave an opportunity for
staff managing all modalities
that touch Renal Services the
opportunity to openly engage
with providers in order to
better understand the type of
equipment currently available
on the market place whilst also
furthering their knowledge
around current and future
innovations.
The event was a great success
with very positive feedback
received from stakeholders.
